Do you remember the nickname of your first Pokémon starter?

My first own Pokémon game was a used copy of LeafGreen I bought in 2011 (CiB for 10 bucks. Those were the days...), but that time I didn't name my Pokémon anything, so I just had a female Venusaur named VENUSAUR, who I loved alot despite not getting a name.

Then I got HeartGold which became my all-time favorite Pokémon game and the one I played the very most, and I'm PRETTY sure I named my first starter (a Chikorita) after one of my little brothers, which was a tradition I kept for a good long while.
How about you?

unfortunately, no. that was too long ago.
nowadays, if i get a squirtle, and its a girl, i name her lyndis; the same name i gave to the main character of a story with pokemon themed characters that i came up with for fun and to practice my storytelling and drawing skills.
otherwise, i just make up a new name.

I actually rarely named my Pokemon, and when I did it was to troll the name rater XD But I think one of my Pikachus was gonna be called "Sparky", and I distinctly remember my Snivy getting the nickname "Amanda" (after one of the mangas).

2024 was my first time playing Pokémon but a lot of what I did still blurred together because it was just me replaying blue 40 times. Was fun though. Eventually got all 151. If I had the GB printer thing I’d print out my diploma.

I'm pretty sure I named my starter (a Charmander) in Pokemon Red "Dipsh*t".
I was, like, seven. I thought it was funny.
My little brother, who was five at the time, named his starter "Butt".
It's been nearly three decades and our sense of humour hasn't changed in this regard.

I never nicknamed any Pokémon in my first game. But in a later game I named my Charizard "Llamarada" (Flare or Blaze in spanish)

I think my first pokemon game was Pokemon Emerald ( or was it Pokemon Black? I don't remember) and I chose Mudkip as my starter and named him Rudy, the default name of the protagonist of Wild Arms 1

You liked the female character don't you?

My very first one on Christmas morning when I got Red Version? Didn't name him.
I do remember the first nickname I did give to a starter later on: It was Peppers the Charmander.

My first pokemon was a charmander named Charlie. It's now a tradition for me to name all my male charmanders Charlie.

I've never really been one to name my Pokemon. Charmander was my favorite because of the anime so of course I picked one in Red. Hey, if Charmander was good enough for Ash it's good enough for me!

Unrelated, but I remember when the TCG came out one of my classmates had an extra Charmander card and I wanted to buy it from him. He agreed for $1, but I got so psychotically nervous that'd he sell it to someone else that I kept offering him more until I ended up getting the card the next day for $5. Not my best moment. x)

I went through a phase of nicknaming them a lot back when I was interested in Nuzlockes and stuff, but now I just leave them. It's easier to see what they are, specially useful when I now know less than half the Pokemon's names.

Yes, it was something lame like Fiery, lol. This was for the original Red so I would have been 8.

Littlebud the Turtwig. TBH I just chose the fella on a whim, but I guess part of it had to do with it being relatively overlooked back when piplup and chimchar were at their peak. I felt a lil bad for him. I still have him to this day!

My first game was Pokemon Yellow, so I didn't have the option to choose my starter. Pikachu wasn't a Pokemon I liked but I LOVED his evolved form, so I named him Raichu in preparation for his ascension. Then I found out—much later in the game, about two thirds done—that Pikachu refuses to evolve if you give him a thunder stone.

I went right back to the renaming NPC in Lavender Town and changed Pikachu's nickname to Buttmunch.

you can evolve that pikachu, you need to trade it to another game to do it though. and if you didn't get the kanto starts before doing that, they will be locked off forever, along with the surfing minigame.
you'd probably better off with just another pikachu entirely though. the yellow version's pikachu is just a regular pika at best. or use starmie, who learns thunderbolt, or jolteon. or a nidoran; or magikarp. or missingno. or the old man who shows you how to catch pokemon.

I was around 9 at the time, so I doubt I knew about all that. Plus, Pikachu doesn't learn surf (which locks you out of the minigame) unless you have data from Pokemon Stadium IIRC. Unfortunately, I didn't.

you have to use him in an entire tournament in the game, if i remember correctly. he will learn it after that. not really useful; other pokemon benefit from surf more. hopefully you get a better pikachu that can become the best raichu ever.
