I was gonna say "HELL NO", but then I started getting invited to reunions and whatnot, and the whole thing just took on a different light, you know?

I still think that almost all of my teachers were jerks and that there was an overpopulation of scumbags, but that was ages ago. If any is still acting like that, I would be far more amused than offended.

Overall, I like remembering the good times I had talking about Pokemon, Power Rangers, and other mindless things as a kid and then of the pranks we pulled as teens.

What about you?

I miss a great deal of the social relationships I had in high school. A lot of my friendships didn't fizzle out until several years post HS. Of course that's just a part of life, but nevertheless, still depressing every blue moon or two.
I had maybe two teachers who were like family to me as well. I really lost my motivation in Junior/Senior year but I would say I still look back at it fondly.

I remember fondly the last years. Because we got a lot of activies that united our class for example in my school the oldest class always have to organize a lot of activities so that year was our turn to do that. And by the end of the year the social groups in my class weren't exactly friends but an strong alliance was born. And also we won "las alianzas" (a competition that some schools do in chile between the other clases) in our last school year it was epic as hell

That's really cool.

We basically stopped talking immediately after exiting for the last time XD

In terms of gaming it's a resounding YES for me. Since my formative years took place well before we had the Internet we do now I forged quite a few bonds over sharing copied floppies and burned CDs. Many a game I have learned about via my school friends.

In terms of what the schooling system was supposedly designed for... Meh. Inefficient at best, a waste of resources and my time at worst. I say this not only as a kid growing up in the system but also a licensed teacher who has experienced being on the other side of the barricade. If anything, it only got worse over the years. Personally, I would abolish most of mandatory schooling other than basic literacy and math, which shouldn't really take more than a year or two. This may be an uncomfortable truth for some but a lot of kids aren't just lazy, they're stupid too. That in and of itself wouldn't be a problem (let's face it, chances of me being here would be a lot lower if I had a knack for rocket science and sending people to Mars) but the big thing is that kids who are clearly not going to make use of education provided by the schooling system get in the way of teaching the smart kids. My advice for parents who have a good head on their shoulders and have a smart kid would be to avoid the public schooling system at all costs. The whole 'no child left behind' policy we adopted from the US was to our detriment as a society since those children are simply dragging other children down instead of catching up.

As a side note, that's also exactly why you see more and more snooty university graduates who not only don't know jack shit about anything, but also feel superior in their ignorance. As the saying goes, there's only one thing worse than an idiot and that's an educated one.

Well. now that was a diatribe if I ever saw one but I'm not gonna lie. It hurts that not only is teaching pretty much a minimum wage job where I live but also that it sucks as much as it does. Thankfully I quit ages ago. I teach people of various ages 1-on-1 sometimes after hours as it were but I would never return to school. Not unless the prospective salary is at least tripled, so good luck with that I say to both the schooling system and myself.

School was weird for me. I had close friends in middle-school, niche friends(nerds in band and computer class with like 2-3 sports people) in high school, more friends in college because I met way more people like me than I could afford to give time to, then a handfull of people in art school that stuck to me like glue.

The classes I remember most were mathematics, creative writing, drawing classes with our very chatty grampa professor, animation, and moral philosophy. I had my first real social and relationship developments in college. I wish I wasn't so socially dumb in those days.

Southwest Ohio in the mid 90s through early 2000s? It was literal paradise. I was kind of a spaz when I was young, but it was fantastic.

It makes me sad that no child in America today nor any who will be born after will ever have the school experience I had.

In short:

Grade school: 🚫
High school: ✅
University: 🚫

The best teachers I ever had were passionate, friendly, intelligent people who nurtured my inherent love of learning and encouraged me to continue developing my own ideas. The worst were arrogant, stubborn, petulant individuals who tried to force me into adopting and perpetuating their own flawed mindsets. Unsuccessfully, I might add. Whenever I see one of these Internet posts complaining that nobody respects academia anymore, I laugh the devil’s laugh.

The whole 'no child left behind' policy we adopted from the US was to our detriment as a society since those children are simply dragging other children down instead of catching up.
I genuinely think that future historians are going to point to this specific policy as a point of general decline in 21st-century society. We got it here in Canada, too, and it’s been an absolute nightmare when combined with this nation’s existing mindset of celebrating mediocrity, leading to a horrible crab-in-the-bucket culture that’s sent our productivity through the floor. Oh, GWB…

As a side note, that's also exactly why you see more and more snooty university graduates who not only don't know jack shit about anything, but also feel superior in their ignorance.
Dude, friggin’ tell me about it. Test scores are plummeting as recently as today, and the current forever-recession is going to doom much of my generation for their entire lives. I’ve also taught courses (second-year communication at my alma mater), and the amount these kids just don’t want to learn is insane. I really, really hope AI is gonna be good, because if not, I’d invest in flint-based fire starters and fallout shelters.

It makes me sad that no child in America today nor any who will be born after will ever have the school experience I had.
Same deal here, and our standard of living was never as good as yours.

I remember when I was hoping to be a teacher like that. It took reality about two weeks to slap the naivety out of me.

I did not expect to find a fellow lecturer! In my case it was English grammar, vocabulary and conversation classes (ESL and all that). I had to do it as part of my PhD which unfortunately went nowhere (possibly one of the bigger regrets of my life out there, but oh well, it is what it is) and over the two years I'd done it I felt the drop in student quality and it hadn't even been that long between my MA graduation and my 'tenure'. My then-colleagues were very open about not being able to expect the level of vocab and whatnot they could demand out of me when I was a student. And they were not happy about it. Neither was I tbh since my understanding is that anyone graduating my alma mater has a diploma that's worth as much as mine is, except I actually had to work my ass off to get it.

I'm still in college and only got out of high school a year ago so i still remember alot of it fondly, just having my small friend group and we just did our thing.

I'm still in school lmao technically last year of high school (basically hell) but I probably do miss school yeah things honestly haven't been the same since covid-19 struck, I haven't really gone to school that much since it happened
Covid 19 came around my freshman year of highschool near the end so we missed a whole year of school. At the time it was cool but I always wonder how shit would be different if I had that year

Yeah... even though COVID caught me well into adulthood, it was hell keeping the kids engaged with the schoolwork, their peers and each other. I don't think we, as a society, have recovered since.

Not entirely, some times I do and some times I remember my struggles with anxiety disorder and how that made my high school years very boring; I regret not being able to love myself and enjoy those years.

Oh no we definitely haven’t I mean there are still students that try to learn and what to learn but yo ngl some of these kids are very stupid 😭
