Akumajo dracula became castlevania outside of japan (akumajo dracula means demon castle dracula btw), personally i think castlevania is a better name, but i still call it akumajo dracula half the time due to familiarity.

Crusader of centy was named soleil in europe for some reason as well.

Bully to Canis Canem Edit (yes really)

•Castlevania: Dracula X (U.S.) - Castlevania: Vampire's Kiss (PAL)
•Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan (Japan) - Elite Beat Agents (U.S.)
•Seiken Densetsu: Final Fantasy Gaiden (Japan, GB) - Final Fantasy Adventure (U.S., GB) - Mystic Quest (PAL, GB) - Sword Of Mana (GBA) - Adventures Of Mana (Vita)
•Ratchet And Clank: Going Commando (U.S.) - Ratchet And Clank: Locked And Loaded (PAL)
•Ratchet And Clank: Up Your Arsenal (U.S.) - Ratchet And Clank 3 (PAL)
•Ratchet Deadlocked (U.S.) - Ratchet Gladiator (PAL)

There are some platform name changes:
•Rockman Dash (Japan PS1) - Mega Man Legends (Western PS1) - Mega Man 64 (N64)
•Duke Nukem 3D (PC) - Duke Nukem: Total Meltdown (PS1) - Duke Nukem 64 (N64)

The first Zettai Zetsumei Toshi was called Disaster Report in the US and SOS The Final Escape on EU.
And just to make it more confusing the second game was called Raw Danger in all regions outside of japan, and for some reason, in Raw Danger only, they made the main character blonde lol

After that they decided to stick with disaster report when localizing the 4th game, the third never even left japan

In Raw Danger, they made almost everyone blonde. There's even an undub for it so it's less ridiculous, heh

Gyakuten Saiban (Turnabout Trial) -> Ace Attorney

Non-region related change: Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis -> Arma: Cold War Assault

Ah yeah there's a couple in the Shin Megami Tensei series as a whole

On the Gameboy there was:
Megami Tensei Gaiden: Last Bible in JP
Revelations: The Demon Slayer in US

Revelations title was transported over when they were Localizing Persona
Which became Revelations: Persona
Though as a quickie, It's best to play a Translated version of Persona rather than the original localization.

There's also a very interesting one with Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne
As in Europe it was called "Shin Megami Tensei: Lucifer's call" due to some copyright name thing going on over there lol.
Why on earth would they rename the series to Revelations. That makes absolutely no sense.

Poison Pink --> Eternal Poison
Operator's Side --> LifeLine

Neither of which Europe got, because f**k us I guess...

S.C.A.T.: Special Cybernetic Attack Team, also known as Final Mission (ファイナルミッション, Fainaru Misshon) in Japan and Action in New York in Europe.

And yes, this name is really a poor choice for the US.

Basically every Mega Man game ever.

I don't have any real preference. I use Mega Man out of habit and simplicity.
I actually do prefer all the Japanese musical term names. Rockman, Blues, Forte and Gospel just hit different. Also, I remember reading somewhere that Forte's and Gospel's concept names were Baroque and Crash, with 'Baroque' being a pun meant to pair with 'Rockman'. And I just really love 'Crash' as a name lol

Yes, that's true. I assume they changed the names because they were too "on the nose" and uncreative.

At least Bass and Crash are still music related, being instruments.

Bloody Roar is a good name, but Beastorizer is so corny and rad that I kinda wish they wouldn't have changed it.

Mario & Luigi RPG (JP) - Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga (US and PAL)
Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga is the way better title, the Japanese one makes it sound like it's a sequel to Mario RPG instead of it being a whole new franchise.

Oh, 'forte' and 'baroque' are music related, too; the former is a notation for loudness in sheet music and the latter a genre of classical music. And since the overall theme of the Japanese names are genres of music (rock n' roll, blues, gospel, etc) 'Baroque' would have fit in thematically while also being a silly pun.

Now I'm wondering why the dev team didn't keep Forte's concept name ::thinking

yeah, i've noticed some weird releases with some games. the first final fantasy game released in euorpe was mystic quest, and apparently, to make it up to you; you got the international version of ffx, which had a bit of cut content restored along with some extra stuff. didn't get that here in america officially until the remasters came out.

Oh, I know. Im just saying at least the Americanized names were still music related, unlike all the other Americanized names

Well we also didn't get Final Fantasy 1-6. So imagine our confusion when we started with 7.

To be more precise, we did get some, but not quite as expected:
  • FF: Got the original version, but didn't get the FF1+2 Famicom rerelease.
  • FF2: Got advertisements for it, but it was canceled. Wasn't available outside JP until the PS1 version.
  • FF3: Nothing until the DS version, and no 2D version until the PR version.
  • FF4: Got it as FF2, though it was FF4 Easy Type (the version with abilities and items removed on top of a lower difficulty), not the original version. The original wasn't available as FF4 until the PS1.
  • FF5: Got previews of "Final Fantasy Extreme" in magazines, but it was canceled. PS1 version was the 1st outside JP.
  • FF6: Got it as FF3. Got the original name back on the PS1.

Bonus: The first 3 SaGa games were released as Final Fantasy Legend. The first Mana game was Final Fantasy Adventure.
