Do you play games because it's cool or because you enjoy them?

When you're playing the games you like, you're going to try and portray them as masterpieces, so part of this whole mystique is just people trying to enjoy old games and finding things to gush about, besides people in different spaces play different things, those who play games that are more well known are usually "normal" people, not only that, but you wouldn't expect your friend Tim who plays Balatro to have something like Flower, Sun and Rain as his favorite game.

In the end, play what you love, spread the word about it. Also Suda51 is goated an Brasil is number 1.

I enjoy videogames as a nice challenge , a hobby to think alot about gaming and something to kill abit of time .

Its a hobby of mine and not some product-consumption to mindlessly consume . I can play no videogames for the rest of my life because i have other hobbies too but there is alot of inspiration i get from playing videogames like the soundtrack , the vibes and the execution of many aspects of a game .

I hope i dont sound like hipster but gaming is my hobby to get inspired and get a nice challenge to enjoy my time .

I love playing esoteric garbage.

Damn straight!

I'm one of those people who hesitates to tell others I'm a gamer because they probably won't know WTF I am talking about and go "So umm... Do you like "Flavor of the week team shooter 57?". :loldog

I used to be too interested in classics, but these days I love me some quality trash. One of my favorite things to do is go to the eShop, set the price from low to high and see what weird, busted, exotic games I can get for a dollar or two. Played some of the most interesting games of my life that way (though I think most would think of them as trash).

i think baldur's gate III is the last really cool & popular game i bought & enjoyed, but more so due to it being a forgotten realms game over like, fomo from seeing people talk about it. im usually very out of touch when it comes to titles a lot of ppl consider classics unless its something i grew up with like pokemon or sonic. who is god of war i dont know her
always have had a specific niche (old crpgs or games w a lot of customization) that i dont wander out of much unless someone i know reallyy wants me to try something, but even then if im not feeling it truly it's hard to even pay attention to anything. i played destiny 2 for like two years with an ex & i could not tell u 1 thing i remember about it. except space guns

I've never played a game without carefully considering the potential social capital gains, usually while sipping brandy and savaging my pud.
this so much this

you know back when i was a kid they used to beat up freaks who played videogames because how dare you be a wierdo. so it surprised me a bit when i read the title like "what" but i get what you mean. still i think that only really happens within the streamer community more so than among normal humans. i never heard of anyone bragging about certain games or praising the classics more than underground games.

Games to me have always been a way to experience others ideas in a more personal manner compared to other kinds of media. Nowadays I mainly just pick up whatever looks neat and then I play it to enjoy it. Sure I could be playing Super Mario World for the 5th time in a row but Kouryuu no Mimi seems cool and new, so I'll just play that instead. It's all about having new experiences in a safe environment.

I take games and play names.

I can't say I have a list of "certified good quality games" because I rarely beat any games. I do think I enjoy playing them but get stuck somewhere and abandom them very quickly, or just loose interest. That happens with both very well regarded games and not that good games.
Also, nice gif

I unironically love playing games with all my heart.
Games allow people to express who they truly are in a risk free environment. You can learn a lot about somebody by playing games with them. Sadly, being the most accessible medium for the layman, videogame culture is always going to attract philistines and posers, which has had a long-running negative impact on the artistic integrity of said culture, but... 🤷‍♀️who cares? Play better games, challenge your own values, challenge other people's ideals. Playing videogames is awesome

It's a little bit of both for me. When I first started playing Persona 1 (PSP) after 3 and 4 it was because I wanted to work my way up to 2. However, I ended up still enjoying it somewhat. Sure it had problems but I think Persona 1 is worth playing despite people saying it sucks or is a waste of time. It is underrated but understandably frustrating; and for me it is worth visiting. Then there's Dark Souls which I was interested in because everybody was talking about it when 3 was dropping. Especially with all the bragging rights that came with it. Like Persona, I chose to start with the previous installments before the popular one and, just like Persona, really enjoyed 2 Scholar of the First Sin. That one is my favorite in the series.

For me it comes down to starting a series because people talk about it, but then going out of my way to take my time and really enjoy it despite the flaws and setbacks with previous entries. I absolutely love Dark Souls but not to brag about my achievements. Rather, the lore and world building. Plus I don't think there are games out there like it even with all the souls-clones out there. There are other game series I get into without people telling me anything like the Digital Devil Saga duology, SMT IV, and Mega Man. Those are all some of my favorites that I discovered all on my own unlike Persona and Dark Souls.

I want to also give a note and say I actually like Persona 2's gameplay. It's just that Innocent Sin is slow.

Of course I play games because I enjoy them. Do you really think my ADHD ass could bear playing shit I didn't like?
Man, I used to play shit I didn't like all the time.
That's how I beat Dragon Warrior on NES 😄
Kept doing it and beat many other games that way, until I became an adult and realized

The fuck am I doing wasting my time on games that aren't fun?

I want to also give a note and say I actually like Persona 2's gameplay. It's just that Innocent Sin is slow.
on the contrary i found innocent sin was quick paced and eternal punishment was a slog to play through in the early game. eikichi had a lot to do with the vibe tho so it might've just been that.

innocent sin is the only persona game i've replayed its just THAT fun especially when the robonazis show up with their chainsaw animations.
