Do you play games because it's cool or because you enjoy them?

on the contrary i found innocent sin was quick paced and eternal punishment was a slog to play through in the early game. eikichi had a lot to do with the vibe tho so it might've just been that.

innocent sin is the only persona game i've replayed its just THAT fun especially when the robonazis show up with their chainsaw animations.
The difference between the two is that Eternal Punshiment, unlike Innocent Sin, requires the player to use their brain.

Innocent Sin is one of the most brain-dead games I've ever played, simply pathetic in terms of difficulty, and it's not easy but still being a lot of fun, it's easy to the point of being incredibly monotonous.

I play games because I love them, I’ve always been rather removed from the ‘cool kids’ ::cirnoshrug

Tbh when confronted with people with a surface level knowledge of things I enjoy, like anime and games they’ll ask if I’ve experienced something main stream I’ll be at a bit of a loss because I probably haven’t. Since I’m busy huddling in my own corner. I actually prefer when they’re less popular since it means less people to be a dick.

My thought process is ‘looks interesting, I’mma try it out’

Plus I personally avoid more realistic graphically ‘pleasing’ 3D games because they make me slightly uncomfortable, ruin my immersion.

In other words I do/ enjoy whatever I want

Now I know for sure I'm not missing anything having skipped the first two Persona games. Thanks! ::thumbsupwario

So they're bad games, then.

What if the  real Eternal Punishment was the friends we made along the way
well actually...

i dont know. i dont remember having a hard time with eternal punishment. i didnt think the dungeons were hard either with their gimmicks(but they were still a fun addition since innocent sin didnt have a lot of dungeon gimmicks)

i just didnt like the cast as much as i liked it in innocent sin, i especially thought the villains were a huge downgrade from the masquerade.
it had its positives like tatsuya's scenes and the return of the P1 cast.

WRONG
persona 1 is good because it has real guns unlike the phantom losers and persona 2 is good because you fight hitler's army of demons and robots plus the OST is really good and and and its just good ok

The Persona 2 duology has great stories, but its gameplay has by far one of the worst battle systems I've ever experienced.
ok the part where you had to collect cards by negotiating was a slog i admit i liked the recruiting system from p1 much better and im glad they stopped using it in other games.
the fighting itself is fun imo but it punishes you really hard if you dont keep your stack of personas updated.

I didn't even say that Eternal Punishment is a difficult game (I don't even think it's that difficult) I just said that unlike Innocent Sin, it's a game that requires the player to change Personas relatively often, unlike Innocent Sin, where you can finish the entire game without changing your personas just by using the main Personas, Prime Personas and Ultimate Personas.

With those cases presented, I think I'll try them after I get through at least the first Shin Megami Tensei game.
play the ps1 port its really pretty compared to the snes version.
i played a bunch of atlus titles and i still think smt1 has the best adventure out of all of them except maybe raidou1. its really fun imo especially the first part before the nukes.

Thor after you tell him you dont really agree with ww3:

Sometimes I worry I’m not a proper enjoyer of ‘such an such’ because I’m not into the mainstream parts of it ::peek

Love how somehow this thread morphed into ‘what version of persona to play’

Man, I miss Tadashi Satomi so much because, unlike Katsura Hashino, his goonerism was actually funny!

Is it cool now to play video games?

Depends. I haven’t seen consistent thoughts from outsiders. The common gaming stereotype 20 years ago was “it’s for kids”, then ten years ago it was “for call of duty players” now the common consensus from outsiders is that it’s all just streamers and YouTubers. (Well obviously depends on who you ask. Some people still cling into the shooter multiplayer stereotype LOL)
I've been a nerdy dork playing video games since the 70s, at least I'm cool now.
Sweet! favorite arcade games? Or were you always strictly a console/PC player?

When I started playing games, it was still at the time where it wasn't "cool" or "trendy". And considering I play online maybe once in a full moon, I was just looking for stuff I enjoyed.

I think we're all kinda misunderstanding the point here..

It's  cool to play things like Fortnite, Valorant, and Genshin Impact. We're not the cool ones for playing things like Ocarina of Time, Umihara Kawase, or bootleg Digimon games.

These three incredibly obscure games are the ones I really want to play in the future (unfortunately, only Garage: Bad Dream Adventure is in English, the other two don't have English fan translations yet).View attachment 74743View attachment 74744View attachment 74746
I have Kowloon's Gate in my backlog :D

When I was a kid, I used to play what my friends had at home, because I was the last to be up to date with consoles. But since PS2 gen, I have educated myself to play weird and strange stuff. Well, at least not known stuff, because I've develop exactly the opposite what the OP states: I lose interest when something gets famous. When it's cool means it's well stablished in society, then I don't fancy it anymore.

That's why since a few years ago most of the games I play are randomly chosen by other people. It's been a great experience overall.

But it's not like I want to be exclusive or unique, it's like I feel joy on finding things nobody is talking about. And as Tatsuya says, the bigger (shit), the better :D

I also have that same effect in me; whenever something is well established in society and everybody likes it, I lose all interest in it. Like, one of the biggest appeals in music for me is digging until I find something obscure that's really good, so I can share it with people that don't know about it. Same with games, same with movies, same with lotsa stuff.
