It's kind of easy for a lot of games to sink upwards of 50 hours on a game without actually finishing it. With that in mind, are there any games you consider all-timers even though you haven't actually rolled credits on them?
Thinking about this recently because I have the same thing with TV shows. There are loads of shows I love that I've spent a lot of time on but wouldn't consider favourites because I've not watched every episode (Deep Space 9, DBZ, Ranma 1/2, Always Sunny). I guess with shows there's also the aspect that a lot of shows just kind of suck after a certain point because the writers change or they don't know where to go with the story (I have no interest in seeing season 2 of Serverence or Euphoria even though I liked their first seasons well enough). But with a lot of games that aren't narrative driven, I often get the sense that I've kind of seen most of what a game is by the midpoint, because the assets and mechanics don't really meaningfully change after a certain point. But I still wouldn't consider them favourites because ultimately I didn't feel the need to complete everything they had to offer.
Or alternatively: I loved Warcraft 3 and played through it casually for about six months, but I'll be fucked if I'm gonna go through the entire first campaign and a half to get back to where I was and finish it now I'm on a new virtual machine.
Do you feel the same? Are there exceptions to this? Are there games you consider top 5 / top 10 but for whatever reason you don't feel any pull to go back in and finish yet / ever?
