Do You Collect Music?

Do any of you collect physical music, whether it be CDs, records, cassettes, or something else? I was looking through some of the CDs I have from when I was younger. My CD player broke years ago and since then, my CDs have just kind of sat around, so I've been considering buying a new player and building up the collection again.

I've considered collecting records as well—a buddy in college was into it. I've just never wanted to spend lots of money on a good player, and then $30+ for a single vinyl. People I know that have a good vinyl setup have spent several hundred dollars on a great player and then great speakers, wiring, and maintenance. I can certainly nerd out on music but that's a specific niche that I don't necessarily want to get into.

(oh, and any advice, whether it's how you got into collecting, or what you listen on would be greatly appreciated and might help me narrow down what to buy!)

Not really, but my sisters and I used to pool our money and buy tons of CDs.

I'm currently beginning to build a collection. At the moment I don't really have a lot, like 20 or so CDs (maybe 10 if I don't count the CDs from the Ys collectors editions) and like 7 records (again, less if I don't count Ys sountracks).
I usually listen to my CDs on my ipod. I rip the CDs on my PC with easy audio copy and put it on my ipod so I can listen on the go without streaming or downloading. I just hate the feeling of not having access to stuff if I don't have an internet connection.

At home I listen to the CDs on my PC or one of my consoles.
My record player broke, so I currently can't listen to my records. I'll have to get a new one but the rest of the setup is still in my living room so installing a new one should be easy. Some day I may even get a CD player for my hifi setup.

I usually buy my CDs and records at a small record shop near where I live. Got an original run copy of the album "Argus" by "Wishbone Ash" there for like 17€, which makes it the most expensive one I bought there.

Similar to yourself OP I was looking through some of my CDs, cassettes I had since I was younger. I decided to casually buy most of my all-time favorite albums around a decade ago, on CD format, until present.

Around that time I bought a new sound system for my room and went all in. Prices are still relatively affordable for most releases. Last week I bought a case for all of them as well, I'll post a few photos below soon. I roughly have 200 albums, EP, compilation, soundtrack, singles in my collection.

A local music store was my go-to place to buy music until they closed down. These days I use Discogs, and eBay. Besides owning physical music I also have accumulated a large sum of MP3 throughout the years on my HD, which is sitting at 97GB of files. Since I don't use any monthly streaming services, and only once bought a digital track, it is my primary source of listening besides playing my CDs.

My parents own a large library of vinyl from way back when, I believe they still have them.

I do collect music, though I've slowed down on it in the last few years. Had a few CD's when I was a kid, but didn't really start seriously collecting until about 10 years ago when I got a record player as a gift. I stopped counting a while ago, but if I had to guess; I've got at least 200+ records in my collection. I have a cassette player and some tapes too, but nowhere near as many compared to my record collection. I have over 60gb of digital music across various devices as well from over the years.

I still have a bunch of CDs and concert DVDs and stuff but the majority of my music collection is digital. A huge majority of it is pirated going all the way back to the days of using Frostwire. I've used torrents, shady private forums all kinds of places to find music. But I do buy some from places like Bandcamp and I've even bought a couple of modern vinyl records from groups that still release them. As far as physical collections, thrift stores and places like that tend to have CDs and tapes and stuff. There's also still the odd music store kicking about here and there. Garage sales and flea markets are another good place to look. I don't know about still, but concerts also used to be a good way to get CDs. I've bought quite a few from concerts over the years.
