Do you also not care about modern games? And why?

Every time I see a new trailer I barely get excited anymore. Games, movies, music, even tech stuff all feel kind of repetitive. Not sure if things really are less creative or if I just don’t feel that same excitement I used to.

I'm surprised to see so much hate for Final Fantasy 7 Remake in some coments. I never played the original cause turn based, but remake by itself is a great game.

I'm enjoying the current gen. I bought a PS5 solely for Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Final Fantasy 16, but I've also discovered other titles that make the console worthwhile. Love that I'm able to play PS4 games, too, so now I have my entire PS4 library downloaded and split between the PS5 and my old PS4.

I don't really care or watch out for new IPs. I try to just stick to my favorite series. If I want to discover a new series to get into, I usually look at retro games first.

Since 2015, the industry has become like a 15-year-old child, focusing only on game graphics and neglecting everything else.
Most of the companies just focus on making things photorealistic but every game looks like a copy of each or a asset flip like the "The day before" scam.
And the worst part is the focus on games as services or even gacha games, I don't wanna be part of the problem buying this sht.

"Do you also not care about modern games? And why?"

No not really. And as to why, I don't need a remake of every game. Some games, sure, but not every damn game. Remakes used to be a rare and awesome thing.
Now you have a remake of a remake of a pre-make of your father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roommate

And as for non-remakes and modern games, as to why I don't care, they haven't shown me anything in the last 10 years to make me care.

Part of me feels cynical about modern gaming for various reason, but the other part remains an optimist and always looks forward to what developers are cooking up next. And even though I gravitate towards older games, the novelty and thrill seeking side of me is always lured into checking out the latest AAA games. Most of it doesn't end up appealing to me, but then again there are many old games that don't appeal to me, either. I think that like movies or books, people will always make good games; you just have to sort through more noise these days to find them.

Nah, the ff7 remake is a great game. But some of the plot changes don't satisfy me personally.

OG FF7 isn't turn-based per se; it uses the ATB system, so although every character has their own timer before they can attack, there's no "turn order". Pedantic, I know, but...

It's not really caring but it might just be me being too old (>30 yrs) for some of them to really bother. They either seem uninteresting or just play it way too safe for me to even try at this point.

Even Nioh 3, a game for I actually BOTHERED to go to a Gamestop of all places to do a pre-order of its predecessor (which they were unable to fulfill back then) left me sort of unimpressed (so far).

The biggest game I am looking forward to this year is Digimon of all things and I finally got around to buy Rune Factory 3,4, and 5 on PC and am currently trying to play through these. Until then, I am currently filling time by playing mobage of all genres, as well.

Most modern games either are live services, rehashes of IPs I never really cared that much about or just plain uninteresting.

Oh, and Fitness Boxing 3 of course. Cannot forget that gem of a Switch title.

I dont care about them bc I cant afford the hardware to run them.

I respect your hustle of running a HD 620. I sometimes miss the old Intel GMA days.

Oh darling, most new games these days... They're just shiny piles of trash, churned out faster than you can say "microtransaction" All for a quick buck, with less substance than a used tissue.
Truly, a masterpiece of mediocrity

Yes and no. Most of the titles that catch my eye these days are indie titles on Steam. I haven't physically owned a console since probably 6th Gen and the reason is that more companies seemed intent on releasing half finished products with costly DLC than actual good games

Kind of reminds me of something I heard in the Castle Super Beast podcast. People are taking about the next video game crash while people like us are just like "Oh thats terrible... anyways."

Idk its not "modern gaming" that I'm not interested in, its AAA gaming that I'm not interested in. For lots of casuals the end of AAA is the end of gaming. But anyone who actually cares about gaming knows there's so much more to offer. This fourm and any indie game studio is proof of that imo.

Something that nobody talks about very much is the longevity of modern games designed expressly to keep players on their games with content fillers,
I do hear people talk about it.
Actually a long time ago, Jim Sterling used to rail against the shift of many games' development resources to multiplayer specifically because there aren't enough players to populate all those games, so most of them ended up forgotten and with poor SP campaigns.
It's also the reason why successful GasS releases poison the soil that other GaaS might grow in. The market is very much finite.

there are some indie games that are still in development that im eagerly waiting on, but as for many of the leading AAA and AA titles i just can't be bothered to care. it is all "slop" that can not interest me. i also have a increasing discovery and backlog of ps1/2 and psp games that are peaking my interest.

I still care deeply about modern games because the indie scene is where all the cool shit is happening (all at an affordable price to). I can give less of a shit about fucking triple AAA gaming, man, that is a dead horse waiting to rot and liquefy into the mud
