Do you also not care about modern games? And why?

These consoles laid the foundations for the “we can patch it later” and "expansions packs" mindset

That's why i only stick to prior consoles
Alright. I can see that there is no winning with you. So, stay mad. Just remember that one of these days even retro gaming will need to go the way of digital as disks rot and cartridges fail.

I heard we were arguing in here so I showed up. I hope I'm not too late to make things weird.

i thought you said you had a garage full of vintage and classic cars. But these all appear to use combustion engines?

That's not a problem, since there are great sites like this one that preserve the legacy of video games and I can actually store them on MY hard drive, but people like you might prefer to take out a monthly subscription to enjoy a limited catalog that you don't own

Being a patient gamer is great.

I see your PC is obsolete, @Xdqwerty so you should google the PatientGamers subreddit. They are masters of making the most with modest PCs. Also google LowSpecGamers subreddit.

Remember, you will grow up, you will eventually have money and if you are wise not to get some girl pregnant, you will have some money to spare on hobbies.

When you are in your mid 20's you will be able to find dirt cheap PS5s and all the library of PS4 and PS5 to go with it, so do not resent those consoles, just admire them from afar, with patience.

You can still enjoy them through youtubers who play them or review them, educate yourself on those that interest you, so when the time comes you know exactly which ones to get FOR DIRT CHEAP, or to emulate in an equally cheap PC (in 10 years a RX7700 or RTX4070 laptop or PC will be dirt cheap as well).

My particular situation makes it hard for me to have a family, and even if I had one I would fail them as a parent, so I rather be alone, live modestly, but invest in all the games I wanted to have growing up.

You are wise to get your General Culture properly cultivated in here, by playing the classics before you are set free to the modern world, when you are finally an Adult with money to spare.

BE PATIENT, IT GETS BETTER.

(I could not even play videogames from highschool through the end of University)

I need to watch the original Legend of Galatic Heroes. Only caught bits and pieces.

I play a lot of fighting games and RPGs that are on the newer side. I also like Team Ninja's work in the action genre. I'm picky when it comes to FPS, but there's a few I enjoy. Thinking about picking up Stalker 2.

yeah a couple of reasons
GB size, sometime i spend more time to download, then install and then remove the files than play the game itself, if work in first;
not sandbox experience, most of the times you need to add something later, cause the already big game is not completed from day one or need some huge bugfix-patch-whatever extra download, like OS's lol;
and of course requirements, play new games lowering the gfx settings lead to a crap experience imo, not like in past, when a game was perfectly playable the same instead

if the game is more than 15-20 GB i'm out now, and also need to be a fave genre (like Star Ocean second story R that is fabulous);
the only exception i made for Final Fantasy 7 remake (first part), that i liked a lot only story side

I do like and look forward to some modern releases. But really not that many of them. Quite often I like the ones that callback to much older games or pay homage to them or copy their graphical styles.

The thing is is that I'm a mid-90s to early 2000s kid, and those are the console generations I gravitate the most to to get my gaming fix. So anything from the 16-bit generation to the PS2 era does it for me. I didn't much play the PS3/Xbox 360-era except for some games at the time on my computer, and the games I've played since tended to be either more indie or niche releases, which didn't really make amazing graphics a priority anyway.

I'm more than happy to play a PS2 or GameCube release from back in the day that I heard about but missed out on, as opposed to picking up something from Steam.

I can't say that I don't care exactly; my problem with modern games is that they are less "tolerable" than old games. And yes, less because old games did have their problems, like putting the concept of hard difficulty and long game in the same box (Dragon's Lair, SNES), or designing levels that contradicted the intention of the gameplay's design (Sonic 1), or the stupid long grinding (Metal Max 2).

But at least, they are not necessarily tied to disappear. Once they are published, someone can save them from oblivion and preserve the rom. But with most modern games (based on where the industry is going), you can't do that. At least no with some online games that you need to pay (Crew 2), or the free-to-play games that the player may or not fall into the trap of microtransactions, but still, developed love for such game, a game that will become despair and then nostalgia when the company that runs the server ends in bankrupt or decide to not maintain the server anymore. (and I say this from experience, I love SV, a CCG, but with the new one, "Worlds Beyond", I know the old one will eventually shut down and be replaced with this new game of the franchise, even if this game is a lot, but A LOT more predatory than the old one.)

And even the games that don't need any type of server to be running can disappear, after all, people don't pay for games anymore. They only pay for a license to access them. (Unless is in GoG or it's an indie)

But most important of all...

Im broke af lmao

Aside of the "money" and physical problems, I don't like their graphics neither. Most games reminds me when the PS1 or the N64 come out, most games needed, for some reason, to be in 3D, even the ones that don't need it. The same happens with most modern games, is like, there's only two type of graphics now; extremely realistic even when it's not needed, or be the 3141243143242th anime game with cel-shading that can't stand out unless it's a free-to-play game with 32432432 microtransactions.

About the gameplay... Most modern gameplay have refined, pretty well-worked gameplay... And I want to say is a proof of how the game industry evolved, but... Actually, you will be playing this type of good gameplay over and over, because, "if it isn't broken, why should we fix it?". And now you have, the 7th soul-like game, or the slay of inspire-like game. Is like they are saying "Oooh boy, I promise this will be the one that will make you drop the game that we are cop-I mean, 'taking inspiration of'".

Ah, and, of course, the cutscenes. Glad you pay for a game 10% playable and 90% watchable.

I want to clarify that this don't apply to indie games, even if some of them are pretty money-hungry and copy the type of gameplay that is selling the best rn. Also, if you get to this point, I must say thx for reading this long af shit, and sorry for my poor english.

Do you also not care about modern games? And why?

I hate pozzed shit.
There, I said it. You no longer need to circumvent the topic anymore.
If the devs like sucking dicks so much they should do it in private.

From what year onwards its considered modern in the gaming world?
2013+
Anything before 2012 is oldschool.

In general? Yes I care.
Although I do prefer the retro aesthetic to modern hyper realism, I still enjoy a handful of new games each year. Games like Elden Ring and Clair Obscure are great imo. And I also greatly enjoy modern indie games that feel like they're from the past. Chained Echoes is one of my favorite games in a long time.

But there are a LOT of new games I have no interest in. However, looking back there have always been a lot of shovelware games and/or games I had no interest in. This will never change. That doesn't mean I don't care about "modern games" as a whole though. Gaming is my hobby, and I have great interest on how its doing and where its going -- even if retro games will always be my favorite kind of game.

I don't care for Modern Games as most of them are a broken mess with bad writing.Besides of that its to expensive the latest Console I ever got is a Ps4 and not past that.
I am more Interested in Retro Games as there is a huge library to chose from, its also quite rare that I would get Interested in anything Modern that gets released, when I hear about a new game I am like, this is probably gonna be another overpriced Slop title.
For Reasons I am the least Interest in Western Released Games,Japanese or Asian Games in General on the other hand do catch my Intrigue from time to time but sadly, they are getting worse to thanks to Western Influence. If a Game has any kind of Censorship in Language or Graphics for ''Modern Audiences'' I am instantly turned off.

To a degree I do care but I'm more focusing on the retro backlog, there are some good modern games like Elden Ring, FF XVI and all that. But there's a lot of messy games out there like MindsEye, the Saints Row Reboot, and the such, also the state of the current industry is something to say the least. The indie scene has been great at least, a ton of goodies out there to play that have been rising thanks to how fun they are like Balatro.

Honestly if anything, I already have a huge backlog and most of the AAA games just don't have my interest. I rather finish them up before I hop on any new modern game that's now getting higher in terms of prices and it's hard to support when the quality at times is just isn't there. There will probably be goodies out there that's coming out this year and in the future but I'll finish up something like any FE on the GBA before I get on any of those games that are up there in price unless it's truly worth it.

These reasons are part of why I've been disliking games, movies, comics, etc. I've been sick of all this shit.
1690882837443365.jpg

I don't mind the LGBT stuff, but don't force it into everything front and center.
Furthermore, this gen; I didn't buy as many games as I did previous gens.

Nope. They're either some Souls clone, or some boring Open World. PSO is dead to me with New Genesis, and nobody can do online co-op games right anymore, that isn't another f2p MMO rubbish out of China or Korea with predatory gatchas.

I spend all my time playing either old games or indie games. Modern indie games feel like the passion projects AAA gaming used to be. AAA gaming of today can be good but that is on the off-chance a studio is allowed true artistic freedom and expression. While that freedom and expression was abundant in the early AAA gaming sector, it is sorely lacking in the modern day. The shift toward mass appeal in gaming has lead to excellently made games with mind-blowing graphics that lack any true message, meaning, or artistic soul. Developers of today are simply too creatively shackled by AAA publishers to create anything hard-hitting or culturally relevant.

I absolutely don't support digital but I understand you. The good thing is that I will be dead by then, so I don't care lol. What I buy physically now is for me and my enjoyment, I don't pretend anyone to have it after I die.

You have the same thinking as me. In addition, having cheapo builds is a lot of fun, seeing how you squeeze the most of them :)

But don't be sad, having a family is overrated. It's better to have a girl to dance with as long as she does not ask you for a kid, I talk by own experience. And if both of you have open mind, you even can dance with other girls while keeping your girl, same for her :D.

Anyways, a 16 years old kid haven't got an entire vision of its life, and there will be mistakes, tons of them, it's part of the fun of life. Just not making the ones you can't un-do :)

? You can play wired with controllers on current hardware

This allows you to have the superior experience
That's not always the case. Consoles tend to have worse input latency through cable than through bluetooth, on purpose of course. If you meant for PC, then yeah, cable is the way to go, or wireless 2.4G (I am a hardcore fan of wired controllers, but in my dining room I had to put a 2.4G wireless controller because people goes and comes all the time and everytime they step on the cable irritates me too much lol).

tbh i grew tired of games inflating in price, disk space and requirements.
also there are a lot of always online stuff that i personally don't care about. so i'm at a point where it's either gonna run on my mini pc or i just won't play it (or i'll check a youtube video if i'm curious about it). i've got a giant library of games anyways

modern games are boring as hell to me and have been since the 7th generation of consoles.
