Do you also not care about modern games? And why?

I like some, the Switch has an amazing library and has a lot of remasters of older titles.

I thought I was alone! I don't really play modern games as I don't get the same enjoyment rather than how it really was back from my childhood to my teenhood. The most modern console I tend to play to this day is the PS3 and the Xbox 360, but even that's apparently considered a classic...

i'm not a big fan of modern non-indie video games because
- i dislike the industry
- i dislike the conditions many devs are made to work in (crunch etc)
- i dislike how predatory microtransactions and loot boxes are
- i dislike how homogenised you get the point i am going to shut up now and make tea. i like final fantasy vii rebirth but that is because i am, as the younger generation says, a bitch. crow country is the peak of human civilisation. i prefer playing evergrace and illbleed on repeat ALL day. much love

I dont care about them bc I cant afford the hardware to run them.
How old are you? your reasoning is kind of awkward because if you like videogames when you have money you will eventually start "caring about them" again. The title of the thread seems more like a reason people would have to stop liking modern games, regardless of their economic situation.

As for me, I prefer old games than new ones, but I also like new ones when they are great games. Everything is in constant change, but developers who know how to do their stuff will continue existing, luckily :)

to be a bit fair, it is kind of hard to care about something if you can't interact with it. i spent most of my life only getting a new game on my birthday or christmas, and then later when i became an adult, getting used games from gamestop and thrift stores and then the internet archive and other sites that i almost don't even think about new releases for systems unless i have the system.
when you can't afford it, it aggravates you to go and look at the new stuff, knowing that you can't get it. why put yourself through that? i forget that the ff7 remake exists most of the time because i don't have the new playstation systems.
and even when you have the money for it; you're not really getting anything in return. most of the game's budget is spent on graphics, and i've seen next gen games look like garbage in comparison to older games. most of the content is bland and generic. devs will tread the same ground over and over again.
hopefully the indie devs will start gaining even more momentum and can push to the top of the food chain. i've seen more games from those people that look interesting to play and are more reasonably priced than the mediocre slop the "AAA" industry can put out.

In terms of console gaming the last generation that truly captivated me was the the sixth one. In the seventh one I enjoyed a few, the total counted with my fingers, that doesn't justify the investment in my book.
Even if i had the money for modern consoles(ps4 and beyond), there is an almost microscopic number of titles that interest me and most of those also appear on Pc, a decent Desktop is a far better investment in my book.

While I still buy and play modern games, the last generation that I truly cared about was the 7th generation.

Mostly because of my existing backlog of games: Why pay $80 for something on launch when I might not get around to it until many, many, months later?
by then, it might be on sale, so you'll save money on it and then you can add it to the backlog. and it should also hopefully have all of its patches and updates rolled out as well.
so, it's kind of a better idea to wait a bit before purchasing a new release.

That's not always the case. I know most of my friends have your reasoning as a base, if you don't have the system why to care about its games.

My reasoning goes further, because I know how is this industry, so what I do is to buy every game I like, regardless if I have the system or not, because I use to buy consoles in their latter stage of their lives, as I prefer smaller, cooler and less electricity hungry devices. I have never had the paranoia of playing a game day one, so I can buy it and keep it for years before using it.

And why I use to buy them when they are released or they have their first price drop? because games get shortages and eventually disappear from shelves, even second hand. And I am not paying high price because a game gets scarce or rare, a golder rule I have never broke.

In addition, I don't use to buy second hand in any country other than Japan, because people mistreat them and that became the norm, and I feel shame looking at most of them. I have OCD about keeping everything immaculate, I couldn't sleep thinking my games were used by some moron who was eating and then touching the disk or the box with his/her greasy hands :(

Same, I may not care for all videogames (sorry final fantasy fans) but i think every single period on videogame is history, including this modern era. Even the less stellar gens have some gems :3

and the money being and issue... i can wait a couple years until i can afford it, there is no need on buying anything at launch price

I play everything. New and old. I've played some really awesome games this gen and they keep coming.
what are your favourite games this generation so far?
off the top of my head, i have enjoyed crow country, elden ring, buckshot roulette, unicorn overlord, final fantasy xvi, and final fantasy vii rebirth the most

i would have mentioned metaphor and expedition 33, but i am still in the process of consuming those cheeseburgers

I dont care about them bc I cant afford the hardware to run them.

I'm a fan of plenty of new and "modern" titles, although the vast majority of those are indie titles that neither are designed with flashy graphics, nor require the system I have (mostly for video editing and encoding) to actually play them.

In my teens (early - late 2000s), I was impressed by the leaps in graphic technology in both consoles and PCs, but these days I'm a pretty staunch proponent of game substance and art style over "advanced" graphics. I'm not against a game having technically impressive visuals, but they often come at the cost of development time that could have been put elsewhere. And, as you mentioned, can make the experience inaccessible to some people.

Some examples of "modern" games I have enjoyed in recent years that only need potato-level or extremely modest hardware to run:
Citizen Sleeper / Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector
Dungeon of the Endless
FTL: Faster Than Light
Heaven's Vault
Indivisible
Atone: Heart of the Elder Tree
Death of the Reprobate
GRIS
Hylics
SIGNALIS
Teleglitch
Transistor
Hollow Knight
FAR: Lone Sails
Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion
Between Horizons
Aviary Attorney

Darkest Dungeon

So if that's your only reason, I highly suggest trying out some of these if they look interesting!

Retro games are amazing, and from a time where creativity was more valued in the mainstream industry, but there are plenty of games still being made today that are both works of art and fun as hell.

signalis was so good it made me slap my thighs
the story was a little underwhelming, but everything else was very nice (i dislike when a narrative tries to convince me i was wearing the wedding ring when i was in fact not)

I'm not a big fan of Modern games for reasons
-Graphics look to realistic
-Gameplay is too narrative and feels like a movie or a TV show than an actual game.
-Character designs are just generic real life human beings which ruins the imagination of video games as a whole.

The only thing with modern gaming I enjoy are games that have 2D art and callbacks from the 80s and 90s whether be pixelated or have colorful anime designs from a Super Nintendo game.
