Disappointment with Dubai chocolate! It has to be the most FORCED product social media has pushed

I’ve never had a Dubai chocolate bar. I was confused when I started seeing it talked about like a bar—what comes to mind for me is a crepe with chocolate, pistachios and pista cream, and most importantly the CRUNCHY VERMICELLI
IMG_2759.jpeg

It’s a little too sweet for me though, I’ll usually just have a bite off someone else’s. What came first?

Also I think the people acting like it’s braindead herd mentality to try a chocolate you heard someone else talk about are like, really out of touch and antisocial lol. You think you’re making a point about influencer culture, but you’re really just expressing some sort of unfamiliarity with word of mouth and it’s kind of odd. 😅

I've never heard of this. If it's a simple type of food, it just sounds like the latest Tiktok trend of something mundane people treat as new and amazing. If it's offered from a company, it's probably a marketing stunt, similar to the Stanley cup thing last year. Between ignorance and living somewhat frugally, these trends tend to pass me by. I'd try it just to try it if it's not expensive.

It may be foolish to feign ignorance about how ideas get promoted between people through word of mouth, but I can certainly understand and get behind feeling cynical about how companies capitalize off trends and ostentatiously try to separate people from their money. Sorry for that huge run on sentence— I can agree with what you’re saying here lol

I get what you're saying. I do feign ignorance sometimes, it can be helpful, and I am very cynical. In this case though, it's organic home-grown ignorance. I don't use Tiktok, Instagram, Twitter or Facebook, so I'm unaware of most trends. If it's viral enough I'll likely hear about it from a friend or see it memed upon somewhere.

I don't usually care for chocolate either

American chocolate is generally trash. Stuff like Hershey's cannot be considered chocolate, more like chocolate flavored slop.

European and Japanese chocolate, however are on a different level. German chocolate in particular is very gud.

Non Food Related but similar phenomenon
Remember when Fidget Spinners EXPLODED in popularity also because of Social Media
and all the companies jumped on to capitalize on the trend!
and after a while nobody was buying them and they were filled with them

Yeah! My kid even got one on his bag at a birthday party.

As for chocolate... Someone mentioned Hershey and all I can think of whenever I hear the name is that time that the US Army tasked them to make a foul-tasting bar so soldiers wouldn't eat it unless completely necessary.

Ritter Sports are awesome.
I sometimes get the salted caramel kind on my trips to town.

Honestly, most of the time I'm only in the loop on these trends due to reading the news or watching a show like Scroll Deep that covers Internet trends.

I ditched almost all social media other than YouTube a while back, unless you count forums like this.

If there is something I learned in my life is that ,I never take anyone's taste on anything into consideration .I mean for example if I listened to game reviews I wouldn't have tried the greatness that is Monark

Hershey's got two things right. The Hershey's Gold, which they discontinued, and the Butter Beer kisses which are limited edition. Whenever they somehow make something edible it's out the window in a few months.

Without getting particularly political, the reason everyone is seeing the immense marketing push for 'Dubai chocolate' is that the UAE is counting on a successful, immediately identifiable cultural sensation to soften people's hearts towards the country, and particularly Dubai, which faces a lot of... questions as to how it was built and the treatment of labourers who built it. The influencers and advertisers did not come out of a vacuum: while most of them are largely just accepting a cheque, the origins of the cheque have explicit motives.

Recently tried a small Dubai chocolate bar as well and I agree, milk chocolate destroys any possible flavor from pistachios. This shit is a complete scam.

In conclusion, Dubai chocolate is 100% industry plant
and influencers are disgusting and obnoxious
How do those Literally-whos keep popping and getting sponsored by big companies?

To me this is all over that Nutella craze where influencers would shove Nutella into everything
When there are better and cheaper Chocolate hazelnut spreads

They looked too indulgent for it to taste good tbh
Like it just something rich people do for nothing else but flexing

It's definitely a flex at this point
not only on the price but how massive the filling inside the bars is as well

It reminds me of a reptar bar

Well... I hope you are happy.

Now I'm craving chocolate.

Alfajor Oreo to the rescue!

Ritter Sport is bomb ::heart

It's an Alfajor -- basically a mini chocolate cake filled with cream or dulce de leche, this particular one in the form and flavor of a giant Oreo.
Mmm... Alfador.. 😻

What annoys me most about this Dubai chocolate is that now practically everything has to be Dubai: cakes, croissants, cookies, doughnuts etc.
But most of all, that Dubai trend makes pistachio ice cream, which has been around for a long time and I like them, much more expensive. Like 50% more expensive.
