If you keep up with gaming news, you may have recently seen this headline making the rounds:

Only 15% of all Steam users' time was spent playing games released in 2024

Now, 15% of all Steam users worldwide is still a lot of effing people, but it does seem quite a low figure in general, doesn’t it? (Apparently, that number is actually up from 9% in 2023, but down from 17% in 2022.) So, simple question, simple answer: Did you play a game released in 2024?

We’re a forum of people who really like games, so I think I can predict the outcome of this thread, but I’d love to be proven wrong. If you can, choose one of the options in the poll and justify your choice in a reply. (Though I’ve kept votes private, so no need to reveal your answer if you don’t want to.)

I don’t need to hear what specific games you played and your thoughts on them — I’m simply interested in whether or not you’re part of that 15%. Games released in 2023 or before don’t count, and, for the sake of discussion, let’s say that older foreign games translated into English this year don’t count, either.

Look forward to hearing your thoughts! ?

Unicorn overlord and tekken 8.

I’m surprised the number is higher than last year. I thought BG3 alone would shoot that number up

I didn't play a single game on Steam this year.

That’s an interesting point that the headline I posted draws your attention away from — are people playing more new games on consoles? Is that a thing? That can’t be a thing, right? I thought everyone was going PC, these days.

I’m not a good source for steam gaming due to most of my steam games being… outdated telltale point and click games, back when they still made those. Man i still need to finish tales of monkey island. So yeah most of my gaming is on my Xbox series (how very American of me, I know) and I did play a couple new games! Ah, several, actually.

New-released games? What is that?
I haven't opened steam for 3 years more or less.

No PC gaming at all this year. I find greater satisfaction in handheld gaming while watching TV.

My modded 2DS XL/PSP/DSi XL provide me the most fun gaming experiences as I binge watch some TV series/movies or even YT videos.

Sadly, no.

I don't have the means, the time or the inclination to play anything newer than PS4.
I’m surprised ps4 still gets new games, not that I mind of course. I think it’s a great system. My friend uses it jailbroken.

I only use Steam when there's a free games like Half Life 2 and that's it really (it's not even a new game), I'm actually more interested in exploring old or I guess retro games because they are actually fun and still giving me a great challenge

The PS2 has been getting games until 2013, that's 13 years before it's discontinuation. The PS3 has almost the same run, getting games until 2020, 14 years before stopping

I think the PS4 will live a bit longer because it's still a pretty powerful console even after a decade. Or maybe if it sells well, then it won't fell…yet

I did play Sparking Zero and that's about it. Was really looking forward to it and was thankfully not disappointed. Aside from that I played Lollipop chainsaw repop( if that counts).

Several on PS5 and Switch, whereas for Steam:

I like new experiences (That I can afford.)

Only remasters of old games, some remakes and some new indie games

I dabbled in a bit of STALKER 2, but decided to ditch it until its in a more stable playable state. Played ZZZ too, and the English version of Ys X. I know it came out last year in Japan but I could not play it then.

In terms of 2024 releases on Steam...I got nothin', save for like...Supermarket Simulator.

'cause aside from that, the other ones I can think of don't really count. (Tomba! Special Edition, Castlevania: Dominus Collection, Clock Tower: Rewind, and Marvel Vs. Capcom Fighting Collection...also FFXIV: Dawntrail, as I'm sure Expansions don't really count as games.)

On Console, however, I did play and beat The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. It was a cute little romp.

I just don't like Steam that much. However, I did play games released this year, and I'm currently playing one. Sorry for misunderstanding your question. Sometimes I don't pay much attention when I read.
