It seems the translator left the project and the person in charge released what they had done so far. Hopefully someone appears to finish the job or else we will be waiting far longer.

Thank you Hikaru. I think I'll be holding off until the Spanish patch is out, even if my Spanish is incredibly rusty. Hopefully people here who play the unfinished English patch will update on their experiences with it. I'm grateful cj_iwakura released what they had instead of letting it gather dust.

I agree. MTL can always be refined later by willing individuals, and it is a more legitimate use of AI than almost all other use cases.

Honestly, from what I've seen personally of ai translated stuff, especially languages that don't use the roman alphabet, is that they're inaccurate enough that someone who actually knows the language is going to have to sit there and go through all the text and ensure everything is accurate anyway. I feel like especially with Japanese, it might almost be harder to go through a poorly machine translated script and try and fix it and make it accurate than it would be just to translate it properly to begin with.

Japanese to English translations require a lot of interpretation to be anything other than an incoherent mess even when a human does it just because the two languages are so different from eachother. If you've ever watched any speed sub animes done by those groups that translate them within an hour or two of airing in Japan some of them can be so hard to follow or understand just because the translations are so literal that when you do see the episode after a proper translation is done it's almost like watching a totally different episode.
