DON'T FORGET TO READ THE READ ME! THERE'S A WEIRD DOSBOX MOUSE LOCK BUG!

Descent to Undermountain is a D&D game that was sadly doomed the moment they chose the engine for the game, that engine being the one that powers the Descent games. It's a fantastic system for the Descent games and works perfectly for them but not so much when your making a game that has you walking around on foot and not in a ship that can fly around. Because of this choice, the game is pretty janky, jittery and even with the latest patch is difficult to play.

Despite this, I enjoyed my time with it after getting a handle on it and do recommend that you give it a try. It does have some good stuff to offer! You get use to it's jank after a bit and learn how to push back on it when it tosses it at you like how attacking at the top of a ladder helps you climb it all the way and not get stuck. Dumb stuff like that.

I had to use a different fork of Dosbox to get this to work properly since FMVs crash normal dosbox but not this fork for whatever reason so again, read the read me! Also if there are any issues, just let me know!

Enjoy!

I've always wanted to try this it looks cool but I've heard it's just way too unfinished to get into

This could easily be a classic if they weren't so hellbent in using the Descent engine for it.
Tell me about it ::sailor-embarrassed
It seems to be a worse version of Stonekeep — which is also from Interplay, released in 1995.
Stonekeep doesn't use a D&D system but ya your not wrong
It's so terrible that it's charming. Another 10/10 from Alma!
Charm does go a long way in games sometimes~ Thank you :)
Good video!
I have this on DOS. I did an AI search for differences, it stated there were virtually none and that the game code did not do well running on Windows and caused many issues. So according to AI the DOS version is the recommended version.
I have it running on DOS on this version! I think I marked it wrong. Will fix that. To be fair I uploaded this hours after I should have been sleeping lol
If in time long ago when it release, to play then, this might have been okay. Today, even with like the D&D so much in game both real and computer, this game however, yes really terrible to the eye! 🌻 🦄
Honestly if people consider this the low point of D&D games then thats great considering I find this game just alright.
The Wood GUI is really cool but too bad isnt an isometric RPG as the other games from Interplay.
90s GUI in general~ I too wish they had gone with something else but I commend the effort.
this is that one game from that one episode of reboot
do not lie to us
I do love ReBoot too so thats not wrong im sure ::linkmouthcover
I'm happy to see this added, it was quite the mission to make it into a usable release. Congrats, @AlmaElma123!
Thank you so much for your help! I forgot to credit you x-x Sorry. I was so sleepy when I uploaded this it all kinda feels like a blur. Ill fix that!
Yeah, using a 6DoF (six degrees of freedom) space shooter game engine was not the best idea for an fps action rpg kinda game like this. I like Descent and the engine works great for those but probably too jank with this. It's still probably interesting and worth looking into despite that
I do think its worth a play. You get use to it and when I got passed that hurdle I was getting into it! Id love to try playing a mage in this, it sounds like a nightmare lol
I learning from LGR than this game never was polished by Interplay and is notable than wasn't.
Anyway, thanks to bring to us and take over from his own Oblivion of forgotten games.
Ya the game suffered sadly ::sadkirby and you are welcome!
@AlmaElma123 I found the best possible cover for this game I could find (it was almost 3000p height) and edited it and touched it up to be the best it can be for the repo. Use this for the boxart cover and swap the one you're currently using as the cover to be the first screenshot in the gallery. I think it'd look best that way. Also thanks for sharing this game. Last year I had been collecting all the D&D Forgotten Realms games and somehow completely missed this one.
