Delisted and Lost Games

Cryostasis is the first one that comes to mind. People were paying hundreds of dollars for the last few keys that were out there when it was delisted. I still have my copy on my Steam account.

Transformers devastation, only reason i knew this game exist is due to a video that mashes together the final boss and I'm Here from Sonic Frontiers, and the descrition comments on the delisting (I think they mention a Drive to get thye game but i haven't found it ::angrygenjin)

Are there ios emulators for pre-64 bit? My download history is like a graveyard for 32-bit things that never got updated to work going forward. I'm sure apks exist or whatever but surely old hardware isn't the only option?

Also about a jillion mobile games that reached end of service. There was a pretty cool Tokyo Xtreme Racer on JP phones that only lasted like a year, I'd love to see it again.

This thread immediately reminded me of Xbox Live Arcade Indie titles, specifically Bloody Checkers and Xenominer. Bloody Checkers was an RPG game where you would explore a castle and challenge people in portraits to duels which would consist of uh... checkers. Since I played it as a kid (and specifically the trial version), most of the gameplay elements were lost on me and I just explored until the indie trial time ran out and booted me out of the game. There honestly isn't a lot of information about Bloody Checkers online, mostly articles from around the time it released in 2011, all of which seem to give it praise. The atmosphere always stuck with me, though, especially the fear I felt after falling into a pit of skulls and bones. Funnily enough, the guy who made that is also the same guy who made Blood & Bacon, which got wickedly popular. People have asked in the Steam forums of that game for years about Bloody Checkers, since it also had a Steam Greenlight page many years ago, and he's seemingly working on a modern, remastered port of the game, which is pretty cool to see!

Xenominer to have just as much acclaim as Bloody Checkers, if not more. It was even featured in an article in Game Informer. On the surface, the game was a fairly simple Minecraft clone, but you could quickly realize there was more to it than just being a voxel-based game with mining and crafting as its core mechanics. There was an actual story in the game, and it had a real, true atmosphere to it as well. Luckily, the game has been preserved in some capacity as well; the game's studio website/blog is still up, and the actual installer for the game has been uploaded to archive.org. For a couple of years there was also a group of people attempting to remake the game completely from scratch, but due to the lead dev being called out because of patrons being upset with the little updates coming from him, the main artist then became the lead dev and after a couple of months, put the game's development on indefinite hiatus. (I could be wrong about the order of events, it's been a while and I haven't really interacted with the community for the better part of 3 years now.) Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this little indie game history lesson!

When flash was taken off the internet, we lost a lot of media. Huge efforts have been made to preserve lots of globalized flash games, but down here in Australia, there was quite a booming flash game business. Unfortunately, too many of these flash games have been completely lost to time. And only exist in the memories of Aussies who grew up with them. Here are a few of the ones I could find with some form of files/gameplay still accessible on the internet, they bring back some very fond memories, but far too many others are seemingly lost forever. (Bottom one is called 'Eggbert Emu')

I think chasm was avaliable on Friv

Ixion Saga, an MMO by Capcom that was released in 2013, and was discontinued in late 2015. The game never left Japan, and featured three different classes, having the option of being a Striker, Blaster, or Caster.

Ixion Saga had 8v8 PvP battles for players to engage in, along with fights against larger beasts similar to Capcom's Monster Hunter games.

The game also had a tie-in anime series known as Ixion Saga DT. As far as I am aware, there are no available ways to play this game in any shape or form. The game is effectively lost.
It looks really cool, I'm kinda getting MH x PSO vibes from it, it's a shame it hasn't been preserved, even if PVP games aren't my cup of tea.
Also shotout to Dynamic Hunting for mobiles and the Freedom Unite ios port! For being one of Capcom best selling franchises Monster Hunter have a lot of lost media :(
Loved flyann's video about Dynamic Hunting, despite the absolute crap load of work he had to do in order to get the game running, it seemed like a really fun experience!
People still run MH Frontier private servers I believe. It's still very much a beloved game, though I never tried it.
Yes, the game is in fact still being hosted, not sure how many people are on the discord server, but it's very active and I see people in the vc nearly every time I scroll past it. I have it downloaded, and I ran it to make sure it worked properly, but haven't hunted in it as I wanna either try to get some of my current friends to download it or try making new friends (which is kinda scary for me to do, at least on discord for whatever reason.) Maybe I just need to tough it out and try to be more involved with stuff, but I've also got IRL commitments, like my band and choir stuff.

I don't know if you've tried Flashpoint, or if the games you've mentioned are on there. But they've been preserving a lot of classic Flash games and some animations there for a while now. Was able to play some classics from Cartoon Network's website and even Newgrounds using it. Maybe you might find some of the games you remember, with any hope?

I always think about Scratches for PC. some insane rights dispute thing where the publisher sucked up the game and then immediately died so the dev no longer has the rights to actually distribute it on any marketplace. iirc every now and then he's able to give out game codes via a Steam discussion forum post which is basically the only legal way to play it

Super Lesbian Animal RPG 2, I fall to my knee’s everytime I remember what could’ve been…

Giving it a wide sweep, but you can consider any release that was digital only and/or locked to a specific platform.

Specific expansions/DLC that are platform locked, or franchises that are slowly phasing out their own legacy, like Monster Hunter.

As a classic MH enjoyer, I'll never forgive Capcom if 3U, 4U and GU don't get some sort of wide release.
Maybe they could release 3U and pr3 together to show the same-ish side of the coin that gen 3 was

That would be super neat as a start! 4U and GU would hopefully follow. If they ever do this, I hope they bother to fix 3U's busted RNG this time around.

The Dishwasher: Dead Samurai was a tough, grimey, indie hack 'n' slash game released on Xbox360 arcade that was developed by the fella who would go on to make Salt & Sanctuary/Salt & Sacrifice, two solid 2D Souls-likes.

As far as I know, the game received no physical release, and the link on the developers website redirects to the Xbox Arcade online store, which returned no results when I searched for it.

From what I played of it, it was a fun time.
