Remember Croc? It had over seven realms!
Well, the classic 3D platformer from the 5th generation starring an adorable little crocodile is getting an official remaster by Argonaut Software and they have posted some footage, it's looking quite good so far.
For starters, it has modern analog controls now, check it out!

Well, it certainly looks like a faithful update of the original, doesn't it? Unlike 99.99% of all modern remakes, the art style hasn't completely gone to shit, which is nice. I can't say I ever really cared about ol' Croc, nor any mythos he may or may not have about the Gobbos, but I imagine longtime fans will be quite pleased to purchase this for 75% off during a sale.

I really like Argonaut's logo. It reminds me of Adeline Software's, and that's never a bad thing. That chalky, crayon-y iconography from the mid-to-late 90s needs to come back ASAP.

I still remember when Argo was trying to sell Croc to Nintendo as an official Yoshi game.

I'm still kinda undecided about whether that would have turned out well or not. (Pretty sure it would have at least been better than how Croc turned out without Nintendo's involvement at least).

I sure am happy to see it's exactly what a remaster should be, the original game updated to take advantage of modern hardware with a few additional (and optional) niceties.
Also I am quite fond of their logo as well, it strikes some good balance between a rather minimalist approach and being unique/standing out.

Gotta give credits to Argonaut where its due, they really kept Crocs appearance as close to "legally distinct Yoshi" as possible ::biggrin
I think I maybe read somewhere about Croc getting a remaster.
These news have made a little noise if you frequent places like these, yeah.

I generally don't really check to see what new games are coming out. If I see any new games coming out then it's probably at a random moment during the day.

Honestly I don't even know what this game is. But since it's a game from PSX era AND with tank controls? Gimme that shit (Now I'm just waiting for Bubsy 3D)

Argonaut Software has announced the release date Croc Remastered Edition with a April 2nd release date... Probably not a best date to release a game during Nintendo Switch 2's big presentation. But what do you think? Will you be picking up this classic PS1/Saturn game? Or wait after the Switch 2's presentation?

SO MANY OPTIONS FOR REMASTERS! I already own the OG on PS1, so I'll pass for this, mainly because I'm already buying Tony Hawk 3+4 this summer and paying the costs of owning a Saturn.

Maybe my partner will want it though!

Depending on the price I may pick this up, but if it's any more than say like... $25 I'll pass til it hits a Steam Sale.

Hope they add an option for free movement, tried to enjoy you Crock, but Tank Controls belongs to Survival Horror, not a genre where precise and quick movements are mandatory or at least suggested

Maybe so but I'll take a remaster over whatever the hell "AAAAA" is
I think it depends on the remaster! Virtua Racing on Switch is a remaster, but it's an amazing version that is truly definitive! Other remasters, I won't name names, can be super busted though. And some others are... ports with a different name.

I was never bothered! I also think the game was designed around them, so I would be worried if they were taken out without the level design being accommodated.

...Why? Who asked for this?

I'm asking for Tomba 1 and 2 Remastered, and that shit is never happening.

Kind of excited for this one, it was my first ever PC game alongside Jazz Jackrabbit 2 so I wonder how it holds up.

Will there be there an option to use non-tank controls? I actually might consider it if there is.
I think they mentioned new controls in the trailer actually!

Honestly we're getting a new wave of young leaders that are wanting a push for preservation and re-releasing old games or remastering is the safest bet.

I mean if preservation is your focus, there are emulators though.
Sure but this would allow consumers that just don't want to go the emulator route to have a legit way of playing said game. Sure it's still probably emulation but there's a factor of convenience that we are getting by these collections and remasters

im fine with the original game
they are just playing on nostalgia now
how many times can they sell you the same game?

for me its ONCE
So Steam, That's usually how that works for as long as it works without having to constantly rebuy it and is why I think Microsoft is right for championing forwards compatibility with their titles on console. On steam I would happily rebuy a game released on a console from the early 2000s era to be able to install with one click, and plug in a controller to play. We also need to consider in this case, Croc was considered abandonware for the longest time before this.
