This cover of T.S.O.L's Wash Away by Alkaline Trio
Aw yea, now that is what I'm talking about, a fire remix.
What about it? You think it is better than original? I dunno, I give it to TSOL, but both are good. I like the sound of the guitars better, doesn't really feel like Alkaline Trio is trying... And don't get me wrong, I like Alkaline Trio: "Continental" is an amazing song! This cover of T.S.O.L's Wash Away by Alkaline Trio
Agreed, that is kind of laughably bad (wtf with the random noises?) but I do like parts: there is a good cover trying to exist there. They should have done more sampling or usage of the chorus which is the best part of the original. Fell into the trap of composing too close to the original and altogether kind of falls apart.Lil Uzi’s cover of Chop Suey, singlehandedly set their reputation back with how shitty it was.
Worst track off of Pink Tape by far.
Yeah, you can tell they do respect the art but it’s too disoriented to form a cohesive cover.Agreed, that is kind of laughably bad (wtf with the random noises?) but I do like parts: there is a good cover trying to exist there. Speaking of NIN and covers, there is also the drama over "hurt". I like the original better because I think it is more interesting, but I do recognize that Cash's version is also powerful and very well done. Didn't Trent say it was a song that wasn't his anymore or something? :(
Oh wow, I thought I replied >_< Nice post @Mr. Daddy I'll try to remember what I wrote >_>There's a lot of songs for me that I enjoy that are covers. A majority of these I probably enjoy both the original and the cover, but there's definitely at least a handful where I specifically just like one or the other, or at least significantly prefer one or the other.
Some particular highlights:
This cover is actually a bit different than what's typical for 10 years, but I absolutely love how haunting and atmospheric they made it.
I know this song is a little bit infamous for being a song a lot of people don't realize is a cover, but I feel the need to mention it because it's one of those that I still see many people surprised by, and I personally strongly prefer the original by Tears For Fears. I do like both though.
Alestorm has done a few covers I like, but in particular You Are a Pirate and Hangover stand out amongst them for me.
Everyone knows about Alien Ant Farm's cover of Smooth Criminal, but another cover of theirs that I think is pretty strong is their cover of Wham's Everything She Wants.
Sabaton also has several covers I'm particularly fond of, specifically Twilight of the Thunder God, For Whom the Bell Tolls, Feuer Frei, Camoflage, All Guns Blazing, and In the Army Now.
Another song that was not originally creepy in terms of its sound that was made more atmospheric and haunting in its cover that I really like. Also one I particularly like both versions.
Rainbow's Since You Been Gone and I Surrender are actually covers, which was a surprise to me to find out. The originals are by Russ Ballard and Head East for those curious or who are very familiar with Rainbow's covers and want mildly cursed experience.
Disturbed also has a fairly famous cover in The Sound of Silence, but I've always personally preferred their cover of Land of Confusion, which I also significantly prefer to its original counterpart. (Don't worry for those of you familiar with the original music video, it's not the one with those terrifying puppets.)
Leave it to Dope to give me one of the most fun covers that I've ever heard. Granted, I don't know how you'd cover You Spin Me Round without making it fun.
Korn actually also has a few interesting covers, notably their cover of all three parts of Another Brick in the Wall, their cover of Lowrider, their cover of Creep which they did live for MTV Unplugged back in 2007 (this might be the most normal song Korn has ever done), their awesome cover of The Devil Went Down to Georgia, and my personal favorite, their cover of Kidnap the Sandy Claws done for Nightmare Revisited, which in itself is a very interesting, and hit and miss cover album. The other highlight from that album is probably Marilyn Manson's cover of This is Halloween, and The All-American Rejects and Rise Against also contributed some surprisingly solid covers for Jack's Lament and Making Christmas respectively.
This one really threw me for a loop because I first heard it when the Miku cover got memed. Wind Rose's cover of Diggy Diggy Hole similarly had my brain confused for a hot minute, but I absolutely love it.

Scorpions absolutely nailed this cover.

Seether is one of the last bands I would have expected to make a cover of Careless Whisper of all songs, but this is a really solid cover.

I've also always thought this Shinedown cover of Simple Man goes pretty hard.
Three Days Grace also has a couple solid and interesting covers, those being their cover of The Chain and their cover of Somebody That I Used To Know.

Viking metal cover of Rasputin. Need I even say more?
Tyr also has a few particularly good covers, those being Stargazer, their cover of I by Black Sabbath, and Where Eagles Dare.
That's about all the covers I can immediately think of that I at least find notable or interesting that I know of, I think. I might think of something else. Maybe.
That's fair, but I think many covers are better, especially many covers of 80's songs in particular. Yes, there are great 80's songs but a lot sound too "fluff" to me: they have great lyrics and composition, but I think many are hindered by the sound of the time. @spectresfrommercury brought up Marilyn Manson, and I think that cover of "Tainted Love" is much better than Soft Cell's original. I think it says a lot that even people that aren't the biggest Manson fans (I am not), still find this a banger.None.
I actually kind of hate the practice and concept of covers. Especially in the modern internet age when you have access to every song ever created at your fingertips, why would you want to listen to a band play something they didn't even write worse than the band that wrote it?
That isn't to say all covers are bad. But I don't really enjoy listening to covers hardly ever.
Yea, idk. Covers just don't really do anything for me. There are some I find ok and listen to in occassion, but I just don't like covers. They take up track space on an album that another original song could have occupied. That's fair, but I think many covers are better, especially many covers of 80's songs in particular.
