Speaking of NIN and covers, there is also the drama over "hurt". I like the original better because I think it is more interesting, but I do recognize that Cash's version is also powerful and very well done. Didn't Trent say it was a song that wasn't his anymore or something? :(
Both versions are great, but I also like the original better. And yeah, Trent did say something like that. Almost exactly actually. "I just lost my girlfriend, because that song isn't mine any more." It was a very interesting choice for Cash to cover a song like Hurt, but it worked really well. It's another case where you can't lose no matter which version you choose.
Might as well drop a few more covers in here. Gary Numan seems to have inspired like every band I've ever listened to, so it's no surprise there's a lot of covers of his music out there. Nine Inch Nails did Metal, Marilyn Manson did Down in the Park, but my favorite has to be M.E. by Wand. It's already my favorite Gary Numan song and I feel the band did it justice with this cover. It was another random Spotify find and I should really look into the band proper sometime, I like their style.
Oh look, another Gary Numan cover! This time by Fear Factory! Huh, interesting. I remember a friend of mine once said his uncle thought he was cooking bacon in his room when he was blasting some Fear Factory. It's so absurd that I can't forget it. Anyway, this is a really great cover, though it almost feels like it's cheating to call it a cover because Gary Numan sings like half the song.
Another random Spotify recommendation. Yes, Silence of the Lambs, Clerks, I know, I know. Goodbye Horses by Q Lazzarus is honestly one of my favorite songs. I don't know exactly what it is, it just really vibes with me, I could listen to it forever. I don't like this cover more than the original, but I still think it's a really great cover from a band I've never heard of before. I should probably check them out sometime too...
