I can't speak for the rest of the world, but American's have a nasty habit of treating desserts as breakfast food. You need to start the day with some protein and nutrients, not a glazed donut and a coffee flavored milkshake.
But how are we supposed to get our daily dose of sugar, powdered sugar, sugar sprinkles, creamy sugar, cream with sugar, liquid sugar, whipped cream, and milk? (Note: Milk and other dairy products naturally contains some sugar.)

That aside, yes, donut shops suck for breakfast and half the coffee drinks are not suitable for daily caffeination. But not everyone goes for that, and a lot of Americans just get black or regular coffee (the cheapest options) in the morning without the donut. (The big chain donut shops and coffee shops usually have breakfast sandwiches since a lot of customers don't want the donuts. Non-chain donut shops don't often have sandwiches, but their customer base is much more niche; and the non-chain coffee shops don't serve donuts and are more likely to encourage drinking black or regular coffee.)

BTW, Nutella is not American. It's literally Ferrero spread, made by the same company, from the same Italy.

Sure, I know it's not a literally every American thing, but I find it troubling how normalised unhealthy eating habits are in this country. I've known numerous coworkers and family members do this sort of thing and nobody treats it as something unusual or concerning.

I knew Nutella was European but I'm not sure what the eating habits of it are over there. I can only speak as an American. I don't think sweets should be treated like poison or anything, it's the overeating of junk food that concerns me.

Not to be pedantic, but Europe isn't a country (which you obviously know, it's just a pet peeve of mine when people say Europe the same was they say USA, sorry), so it's super different for various countries in Europe.

Here in Sweden, just about every single person I know eat breakfast at home, but the kind of breakfast is very different from person to person. The most common things seem to be either open-faced sandwiches, cereal (with milk, yoghurt or a special kind of fermented dairy product called "fil" which is kind of a middle-ground between yoghurt and milk, which is my go-to, I hate soggy cereal) or boiled eggs, or porridge, with coffee, juice or tea.
It's pretty uncommon to pick up breakfast on your way to work unless you morning-commute with buses/trains a lot.

You're right, it's sometimes an easy mistake to make from an American perspective. I'm sorry if I caused any offence.

Meanwhile, in America: "Hmm... It's a start, but it needs more sugar."

These idiots here over-sweeten everything. Even ketchup in the States is pretty much candied tomato product. It's gross. And as mentioned earlier the breakfast restaurants such as IHOP and others all serve dessert masquerading as breakfast:

And these things tend to get covered in a fake fruit flavored high fructose corn syrup mess.

if you ever find that product taste it::winkfelix

I've seen this around but I've never tried it. How does it taste compared to Nutella?
i like them both but merenda really is better for my taste, try it when you find it again you will be surprised.
it is more fluid and has the perfect balance in sugar.

Huh. I like Nutella but the sweetness makes it rich at times. Thanks, I'll have to try it next time.

As an American, a great deal of the sugar we ingest is simply due to marketing; it's there, so we buy it. We don't think about it, because we don't believe that they'd sell it if it were truly bad for us. Part of it is laziness, another part is misplaced trust.
We have very, very bad habits of not wanting to do a dang thing extra. Boil a few stupid eggs before you go to bed, bam- instant breakkie. Other countries have them, too.

Stupid eggs, so full of protein and no sugar.
Ya, marketing in the US is horrifying. Things that would never fly in other countries get full freedom to propagandize, from pharmaceuticals to chiropractic to Kanye West. And the most prominent one is all the sugar-loaded and artificial color-loaded garbage that we sometimes go so far as to wrongfully call kids' food. Some of that stuff is actually illegal in some countries (due to banned ingredients), yet they are still allowed to be sold and pushed on the public.

And of course people buy it all, not because of any fault in ourselves, but because propaganda works extremely well. And there's very little effort from our media to counter this, especially since pointing out that would hurt their connections with advertisers. (The education system, to its credit, does try to fight back, but it is fighting an uphill battle against a force with much more funding than it has and more respect from kids than education does.)

As for "boil some eggs", I don't think you get what's going on in the US right now. Nobody's going to use up there egg rations like that, especially if they live in food deserts.

I once bought a jar of Nutella to try it when the hype was rampant. If I still had that jar, and it was somehow still good, and I could get it to you... I would give it to you. Did not like.

Name your favourite food recepies, something you know and love that warms your body and soul.
Mine are goulash (beef stew with potatoes), homade beans (beans with creamy delicious stew like sauce), homade soup, spaghetti bolognese, pasta carbonara.

What are yours? I am looking forward to hearing some of your most yummy meals!

Tortas Fritas!

They are my favourite snack in the world! They are basically just bread dough fried in lard. My grandma teached me how to make them as a child and I have been working really hard to perfect the recipe but It still is nowhere good as the ones I used to eat back then. It is a tradition in my household to make some everytime it rains.

I don't really have a recipe as I kinda just wing it but it can be found really easily on the web.

It is extremely cheap and easy, pretty much just mix flour, salt, water, 4 spoonful of melted lard, shape them and then fry them until they look like in the picture.

(Pic not mine but they pretty much look like that)

Food thread, food thread, food thread!

I don't think I'd be able to pick a single favourite, but I know what my go-to is when I feel like making something fancy and delicious for my friends. I make one absolute hell of a (Mushroom) Risotto!

Also just a really satisfying dish to make - the longer you work on it and massage the starch out of the rice, the better it becomes, plain and simple.
