Changes on Banning System

Good. Heavy handed moderation destroys forums. I can't understand why people these days don't have the self control to just not engage with things that bother them. It's pretty easy. You just keep scrolling and ignore it. Like it's words on a screen. Nobody's forcing you to read them.

There goes my TAS speedrun of ban evasions!

You dont understand! I need to be angry!

I think this is generally bad. It depends on quality of the staff but in emergencies you'd want to ban someone immediately, and even IP block them. To me, getting threats over bans people have likely earned is a sign that they need to be banned, not that they need to be appeased. I am not very american but usually you defy terrorism.
Site disruptive behaviour, mass flooding with threads, illegal material and I do not talk fun internet privateering I talk having to see some stuff FBI hires very short kept jobs to persecute and send people to jail and much more become inefficient and bad to deal this way. Most internet tough guys are just talk and don't follow up with shit. Rules, some of which you get banned right away, etc. all are basic good things on a forum.

Appeasing people who repeatedly break rules of OK social conduct of a place and then resort to threats when they get punished for it are not people I would like to keep around. The only weak aspects would be wide enough moderation team where people get unjustly banned and their un-ban takes longer than it should, unless their conduct just makes it clearer the power-trip was actually correct for once.
Then again, not everyone and not RTL has had to deal with concentrated 50-100 person spam jobs having to ban people for flooding the site etc.

I think this in general is a bad idea for a forum and the strikes and possibility of mega strike or a 0 or 0.5 strike is better. This system to me is just so soft that a lot of unwanted people can come and stick around as long as they are keeping their shit as a constant stream instead of a bomb.

Like, someone who collects 2-4 strikes every 15 days continuously sounds like someone who could use a longer time out, and this site is a privilege to those who know about it and play by it's rules. Of course I am for 24-72 hour ban, 7 day ban, 30 day ban, permaban kind of guy myself, and I have been given permanent bans for one rule break where the punishment is just bit much for the crime.

Then again, not everyone else has hosted 4chan clones that get flood raided on regular for few years before stuff quiets down. occasional federal crime removal from Taiwanese IP's prompting harsh geolocks after you've removed "advertisements" way too many times manually threatening the existence of entire site and so much more fun times that can be had. If it was me I would just come in and posted "from this day onward mods will just one strike ban you if they feel like it. Appeal it if you feel like it after 24-72 hours" instead of appeasing such shitlords.

So wait people are being asshole and then complain about warnings and being banned and threatens with legal actions or some shit.

Maybe they need to be enlightened that hate speech a Crime that can land them in big fucking trouble.
So warnings or a ban should be their least worries.

I also gonna say I worked 30 years in IT security so if I see any hate speech well I bet you can figure it out.

More seriously, I also have concerns that this may end up being a bit too soft and encourage certain types of toxic people to be more open and bold with it. You know what's best for you and you're situation however, so I'll trust the decision.

Good. I'm tired of seeing niche hobbies taken over by overzealous mods over political shit that has nothing to do with the hobby. That's all I'll say on this, I don't want to start any arguments.

The magic is that you have rules, you have bans, and you only actually do them when most of the site agrees, and if rules are broken or most agree that there can be a little bit kangaroo.
Like, I might been a silly willy and forgot to write a rule that no minor exploiting material or you will be banned, IP blocked and reported to authorities rule so even if I did not write one down, I do not think people get that mad if I still do that.
Good moderation could by vibes be softer or harder on rule breaking and also punishment. My favorite one was "No Trolling" rule that was nebulous just so when situation called it, Ban, 30 days "No Trolling", the secret ingredient is crime to be just extremely selective and understandable to regular users if you pull stuff like that off. But, then again, I seen some stuff too. If you want a low-entry no-skill Lawyer's 24/7 on call retainer job disguised as a hobby, you start and run an internet discussion forum of some kind.

ATenderLad was handing out first strike bans before for small transgressions like he was getting paid to janny. I think this is a step in the right direction

I understand where you are coming from with that, so please let me assure that there are measures in place to prevent someone who's sole intention is to cause trouble right out of the gate from doing so (and we actually had to do it the first time this was a thing XD).

This measure was taken because there were mistakes on our end, and we wanted to address them... But we haven't turned into SpongeBob cosplaying as Chief Wiggum. Not yet, anyway XD

Sure. If true, and it was me I would just stripped them of their moderation status or made a system for janitors and demoted them there, if I was feeling just that charitable.

If you have a problem with ATenderLand, you should be brave enough to tell them right in the face, rather than shit talking them here.

If so, that is good, but that also, should in fairness be in the post. Such as "Site admin still shall resort to bans in cases that call for it."

I just guess this is when RTL has become large and it's moderation team is equally as large with it, delegation and human management is a skill and usually a job if not a career, not a hobby.

I just did. What do you want me to do? Go into his dm's and tell him I think he's a bad mod?

I had to edit in, "if true" to the sentence since it is currently hearsay from one person. I do not know anything about their conduct and this was more of a springboard to "Well moderation staff is bit over the line, what do you do then?" hypothetical. I have no idea how they are acting as a mod since I have not seen such behavior myself, or received any warnings bans or such on these forums, so all of my comments have no direction to specific people and are all hypotheticals. Lovely poster is all I know of.

Ignoring just makes it so you can't see their posts and reacts. It doesn't stop them from seeing you. It works just fine. Occasionally I'll see 'this post is content from a user you have ignored'. It works well enough.

I am unsure if it stops them from DMing you, but if you have an issue with someone harassing you in DMs, you can just screenshot and report it to the mods.
I have only had to ignore two so far, they got on my nerves with their comments otherwise it's not so bad now.

Chill broski. I can see were the frustration is coming from, sometimes the mods go overboard. We had a couple of crazy schizo's since the website opened up. Its why there so aggressive. Nothing against you ::terriermon-happy

To add to this, I can confirm it works for DMs as well.

Banning system maybe changed but the rules remains the same. Which means no lewd stuff, no religion, no politics, and the important of all don’t be an asshole.
Man... you mean to tell me I can't start posting links to my favorite AdultHub videos?
Well, shoot XD

Joking aside... *coughs* joking... yeah.... I get it, and I agree with ignoring them.
Just flat out hit the ignore user option and don't even react or engage with them.
If you don't feed the trolls, like a six year old, they will get bored and lose interest.

I can attest to that, I’m pretty sure I’m the user who has been put on ignore by most people lmao

I feel that singling out Laddie is a little unfair.

You guys obviously have the right to express an opinion, but she's someone whose appointment was a direct result of me asking and whose first day on the job couldn't have been messier due to happenings on the forum itself, which kind of set the tone moving forward. Besides, I have fucked up aplenty -- at least let me share the heat!

Show ban records sorted by mod. Lol. Some guy came on here socking after a ban a few weeks ago and all I had to do was guess who banned him.
