Believe or not it takes more than 2 dollars to pay all the people involved, did you check the actual page?
A studio of ten people worked on this, the game is niche they won't sell many copies regardless of quality.
IF they sell the cartridge for 60 they have a chance of paying the salary of all ten.
Complaining people don't work for free is complete lunacy, selling the rom is the same problem, if it's too pricey people won't buy it and even if they sell it for cheap it will be pirated anyway.
They already know the game will be pirated, they're hoping to sell enough physical copies to justify the effort.
Be grateful someone is working on actual game instead of scamming you out of money with gatcha.
Deliberately misunderstanding the intent of my post is not very nice.
I never said I'm trying to pay for the salary of 10 people, nor would I ever be interested, nor is it wise to try and have the salary of 10 people rely on a limited cartridge release of an NES game. I'm well aware of what goes into having your own business - I have one. However, my business is not built on demand-rising strategies built on the back of intentional scarcity.
A high moral ground in this situation is completely and utterly useless in the face of most people that wouldn't even think about paying CLOSE to 30 bucks for an NES game, never mind 60. Especially if it's not super great.
Up your ass. Lunacy he says. How about you don't twist my words to make yours look like they have any real world relevancy? We can all pretend this is lovely and soulful, but masquerading a game as a collector's item or vice versa will never provide them with the finances to actually pump out a legitimate game studio.
A person that would have never bought the game in the first place, resorting to piracy, would have never even considered paying the full price for the physical when subscription services that give you access to hundreds of games exist. Oh! Another cool alternative! Better games at reseller shops for 5 bucks, or bundle lots on ebay that sell 20 ps3 games for 50 bucks!
tl;dr
Me not buying the game at all (and I would have never considered it in 10 thousand years) vs playing a pirated copy of it has no financial impact on them.
