And I'm going to unlock my PS4, so why bother with a service when all the games are free these days?

When I was a kid, my family moved to a new town, and I recall crying at the end of the school year knowing I'd never see any of my friends again. My mother decided that since I was already upset, she might as well rip the band-aid off and told me I had a doctor's appointment and had to get a bunch of shots the next day lol.

This feels very similar, they're just loading up on all the bad news today. I'm going to be honest, I bought a game on PS3 last month and I was shocked the servers were still up at that point. This was a bit inevitable, but it still quite a bummer.

I will say though, jailbreaking your PS3 and Vitas has never been easier. Everyone is different, but I no longer have any reservations in doing so, now that Sony officially has no interest in supporting my hardware any longer.

Genuine question: does that mean taking my modded PS3 online would be less dangerous (I have heard that PSN liked to brick/ban modded consoles)?

They haven't banned any of my modded consoles and I was playing PSVita with it online while playing GT7 on PS5 this year. I even synced the trophies so they dont really care about anything that isnt PS4-5

My PS3 and Vita are both online and connected to my actual PSN accounts, and I have had no issues with them. I can sideload whatever apps I want while still using the real store and tracking my achievements. PS4 is a different story, the jailbreak I used at least means I had to wipe my device and can't log into PSN, otherwise it tries to undo itself.

I wonder if this'll affect NoPayStation somehow since it downloads from Sony Servers.

But whatever happens, the entire library of both systems has been freely downloadable for years so, nothing to fear.

End of an era.

I remember back when they were going to do this a few years ago but seemed to push it back after a big outpouring of people buying stuff on their PS3s and Vitas, or at least that's the sort of story I remember them giving.

Really though, again, this just hammers further home that all digital purchases are rentals. PSP, PS3, PS Vita, PS4, PS5, everything. And only thanks to jailbreaking, modding and piracy do these products still survive to be enjoyed after their death date.

I am honestly terrified of my psn account getting banned if I sign into it on my ps vita, as 90% of my digital purchases are on my sony psn account. I have maybe 50 games on steam and everything else is on my modded 2ds, vita and ps3.

Geez, I didn't know it was still open. I should check to see what they still have.

Most vita users i met dont know/care about the state of the Store, or the facts about cross-buy, cross-play, or the games that still have working multiplayer support even for PSVita (Table Top Racing, Alien breed, Metal Slug 3, Helldivers, COD, Resident Evil Revelations 2... to name a few more on the arcade genre)... Anyway, the same selection of genre that you could find in any other platform, but, hey its the PSVITA, who cares if you have on bign?
Im going to add a second personal fact: The last twelve purchases (some with discount ;)) i made on the with the full certainty that they were gonna be played until the end on my Vita:
- Ray Force DLC for Darius Burst: Chronicle Saviours(5% played)
- Route 66 (100%)
- Star Hammer Tactics (60%?)
- Shakedown Hawai (10%)
- Torquel (100% ¿?)
- Kick & Fennick (25%)
- Crypt of the Necrodancer (25 %)
- Teslagrad (100%)
- Azkend 2 (99%)
- Project Root (30% maybe)
- Severed (99% couldnt pass the final boss yet)
- Salt and Sanctuary (??%% bored of dying )
Im not opening any kind of debate about preservation, im the kind of people that buys the item and use for what its to be used... There was a time when you where really pissed off when you bought a game and it was a real crap after load failures/long loading times/crashes etc... But that was long ago, today you have all the information to know if the product is of your niche and you want to support it

That one i'm not as upset as about, but it's amazing that these stores lasted so long. There was always a matter of when, and not if.
