Bring back the Ban

This place keeps letting the worst scumbag users get off scot-free for continuously breaking the extremely easy to follow rules, spreading vitriol and poison everywhere and at most getting away with a slap on the wrist, only to re-emerge a week later spewing drunken rants breaking rules left and right.

I’d say ”don’t feed the trolls” but the way the site is set up right now it’s like they’re being fed by design, and the rest of us are forced to just look the other way while trying to use the forum like normal people.

The mods are powerless to do nearly anything and keep getting the brunt of the flak because Spike doesn’t want to deal with the occasional angry email from disgruntled ex-members threatening to ”take action”.

This weak Reader Mode shit clearly isn’t working, and just lets toxic assholes keep waltzing around barfing everywhere, and just pushes more and more well-meaning and amiable users out because the trolls and schizos overpower them, and protects the worst offenders from any sort of repercussions.

The difference is that everyone else who tried to either reason or sneak their way back in immediately broke the "contract" that allowed them a (rare) second chance by being giant fucking ****.

Pac's past was undeniably shitty, but he's been a pretty great member since. He knows his rope is much shorter than most other member's, and is behaving accordingly -- it's kind of refreshing, honestly.

I wasn't being transphobic, I got banned by you for asking you not to talk about your sexuality on a forum for retro games. Also, just on the principle that a child shouldn't be talking to random adults on the internet about anything close to that.

Been a while since I've seen a thread that was a massive car crash.

I don't know if the same thing applies to the Mod etiquette here, but I recall another site has a system in place where they can't do anything until someone reports their specific posts (or multiple people reporting the same post), as doing stuff on their own discretion causes trouble, especially if they are right front and center on what's going on. Even if you are an absolute hardliner in nuking the same user on repeat because of their constant ToS breaking, you had to stay where you were until the reports came in, otherwise the rest of the team held you accountable.

This comes from a veteran mod telling one such user "If it weren't for being literally required to hold my ground and act only from reports, I would have immediately suspended you the moment you came back." Of course, how things work there is different from here, but if that's the case with the Mods here, then I can't say I'm all that surprised.

I do recall one of the Mods saying there weren't enough reports being made, a couple months ago. I know I try to do my part in that.
