Brightis is a 1999 PlayStation action RPG by Quintet and Shade, the studios behind Soul Blazer and Terranigma, and it never left Japan. This is an unofficial English translation patch for it. Everything you read in the game is in English now: the story, menus, items, skills, the save and load screens, name entry, signs, area names, and the tutorials.

Version 1.0. It is finished and playable start to finish.

This project piggybacks off of the work originally done by Dickdebonair's team. Their version is still in progress and will likely end up being a better more polished release than this one.

The download in these posts for the game will be replaced with that version when it's available. (or maybe we'll keep both)

As far as I can tell, the translation in this doesn't seem to be AI MTL based. At least the project page doesn't say anything indicating it is.

----------------------------------------------------------

This is the PSX2PSP converted version of Brightis. It's meant to be played on a PSP with custom firmware or a PS Vita through Adrenaline.

It will play fine using DuckStation since it supports the .pbp format, but if you choose to do so I recommend changing the filename to the game name instead of leaving it EBOOT. This offers a bit of compression compared to a straight bin/cue, but you can achieve better compression using CHD.

For those of you with a PSP who don't have custom firmware yet, I recommend installing ARK-5 using this guide. It's the latest new firmware for PSP and is packed with features and being actively developed.

The first two screenshots were taken directly on my PSP 3000 and shows how this appears in the XMB game list.

Updated to v1.0.1:
  • Translated the idle movement tutorial at the start of the game ("Move
with the Left Stick."), which only appears if you stand still. Thanks to
    Areku-The-OF.
  • Fixed one line that called Zeraword "Zania".
  • General formatting cleanup across many dialogue lines (consistent line
    indentation).
I'm glad for that last one, the text being formated in a messy way was really hurting this patch. Hopefully it's better now in that regard.

honestly the translation at the start seems janky enough to probably be generated :<
but id forgive it if they had like, anyone reading over the text to at least make it sound normal

Sort of wish the game had more customization. I really reaaaaaally hate how the protag looks. Nice that it got translated either way.
Yeah, he honestly looks like a bad 3D rendering of Richter from Castlevania. They could have at least made his hair a lighter color to match how the official art of the character looks. Also made his armor look a bit better
