Translation Credits: Released by: Gu4n Language: English Status: Fully Translated Patch Version: v1.0 Date: 30 Nov 2017 Source and details: https://gu4n.github.io/br2/ I highly recommend the emulator Neko Project 21/W for playing on Windows. It's the most feature complete emulator for the NEC PC-9801 and is in active development receiving frequent updates. Use this guide for help on how to obtain and configure the emulator.

You're missing the font.rom or font.bmp files. This attached file contains all the system bios files used by the Neko Project II Kai core in RetroArch. Extract the folder out of it into your RetroArch system directory. C:\RetroArch-Win64\system if on Windows unless you changed where it installed to
worked like a charm, thanks!

game runs but all text is missing on retroarch

My personal favorite PC98 game and OST! 3 is also amazing (eng patch hopefully in 2026) but 2 holds a special place for me in just how much better and more ambitious is was than Brandish 1::bigboss

fun to see this translated at last its such a great game
and all games for the pc-98 are real artwork

Hmm a rather easy way to approach that might be finding a good MIDI workstation app and use soundfonts based off of PC-98. There's multiple soundfonts people have made of it that you can find online in .sf2 files. Then you could compose your own MIDI tracks that sound like how PC-98 synths sound. You can further save those tracks as mp3 or flac so that anything would play them. musical-artifacts.com has downloads of more than one PC-98 inspired soundfont. I don't know a good app to use to compose them tho. I'm sure there's pretty of paid or free options out there
That was already a good chunk of very helpful information right there, thanks! Time to start digging~

Brandish!::yay

I am absolutely LOVING all this PC-98 support recently. This is easily my most interested console because of all its amazing pixel art and FM synthesis. I also really appreciate the added notes from OP on HOW to even get this obscure thing running, which if you aren't savvy in this sort of stuff can really be a huge headache, lol. Thanks to all involved, including the awesome translators!

Btw...probably a weird place to ask but maybe someone on here would know. Does anyone know how one could learn to replicate the synth from a PC-98 to make new VG music as a hobby? Like whats a good place to learn/program to use?

Oh, the one I highly recommended and linked to on the post doesn't need to be installed. You just run it from the folder. You should read up the guide from gangfight that I hyperlinked as "this guide". I also said some noteworthy things about it in the description for the Mime game post
Downloading right now, haha! xd/ Thx a lot to clear my doubts, bro, :d¡ And I will also read the guide and the Mime description too, now I have curiosity about that, :)?

Plop! x¡D I had a déja vu again, lol, x'dd. Another guy told me the same about emulating on smartphones when I asked him something similar, haha! I guess the word "portable" actually has changed to new contexts, :'), but let me explain my question: when I ask for portable emulators I mean emulators that do not need to be installed on the PC, but on a pendrive istead, :d. This way allow to use the emulators on various PCs more comfortably and conveniently, I think, but I'm a newbie to the PC-98 scene, that's why I'm asking, :')?

Honestly there really aren't any worth a crap, but I suppose you could try using the Neko Project II Kai core included in the Android or iOS versions of RetroArch. It's sad but that's just the state of PC-98 emulation atm when it comes to mobile. I've used that core before but it's just not as satisfying performance wise compared to the 21/W version. The normal version of Neko Project II is also way more out of date compared the 21/W which gets several updates a month including beta builds. I'd also imagine on mobile the mouse emulation would be tedious unless you use a bluetooth mouse

What portable emulator do you recommend to play PC-9801 games? :d?
