Bleeding-heart wife says it's "inhumane" that I keep all of my portable consoles indoors all the time.

She says they were made to be outside. I told her that they're better off inside where the thieves can't get at them. Our neighbour left his Steamdeck outside on a warm day and it was never the same; developed mysterious memory issues afterwards.

Do these consoles look abused to you?

I don't take mine anywhere, they're too valuable and expensive. And nothing video game related should be anywhere even in the remote vicinity of sunlight.

look just because Nintendo makes commercials about random groups of friends playing Switch outside, on the roof, and at the Bball court doesn't mean it's true. lol

My consoles never see the sun. They only leave the house if I'm traveling, and even then they're only played in the hotel. You're doing the right thing.

It pisses me off all of the pictures you see of things in front of windows with bright sunlight when you're looking at product pictures on retail sites or amazon. Like if you're shopping for a media rack or shelf. Yeah! Put all of your media in front of UV rays for several hours a day!

She needs to understand that at the end of the day, they're still gaming consoles. The ONLY time in which a portable system leaves my home is during a road trip.

Well my PSP exploded because my momma left it under the sun (despite I told her not to change its location, such a rebel she is and what a coincidence I'm too lol), so my scientific take is portable consoles are a vampire so they should stay away from outdoors, even moon light is dangerous!!!!

lolol

A childhood friend of mine was so careful with his Gameboy Color that he used to say it ”couldn’t tolerate air”. So he NEVER played with it outside.

You are too optimistic. Consoles and games are things that you need to seal, then vacuum packing and store inside a waterproof-weatherproof basement with no light contact. And then, only use computers and emulators to remember what is playing with them :)

How in the...Outside where I live is ROUGH! If I leave anything outside and I mean anything it's getting burned, rained on, or stolen! Indoors is the best place to store electronics period!

The only times I remember playing handhelds outside of the house are when I played Game Boy during recess in elementary school and when I was a teen who hanged out at the mall and had my DS in my messenger bag. I was really into Electroplankton, lol.

They might come in handy while in a lobby, waiting around for a divorce lawyer appointment.

Inhumane

I played GBA and new 3DS a lot in public transportation and I can say even when people have no idea what is that they think "I'm a terrorist" or "it looks expensive so I should steal it" lol. And when it came to PSP just because it's really not a decent console to play outside, not because it explodes due to sunlight or something lol, but it has a fuck shape therefore I mostly played it at me home, same as PS Vita. And I can't imagine people playing Switch and Steam Deck outside because of it. It would only happen on advertisements or if it happens IRL it will be one of the situation that "it was the first time I did it and I regret intensely" thingy lol.

Otherwise portable consoles itself never in a necessary way of you shouldn't play outside or something but only exception is PC Engine LT because it looks like one of those devices terrorists in movies uses to launch missiles or make some big deal bomb explode so it can make cops jail you lolol:
