A brilliant hack that lowers the absolutely mind-boggling encounter rate of this early PS1 RPG to levels that actually allow the game to be properly enjoyed, rather than simply suffered through. Additionally, Percy won't constantly leave the party, and gold acquisition rate has been increased.

The first segment is especially annoying and merciless because Finn is alone and the first handful of encounters are forced. It won't become a masterpiece anytime soon, but it gets better later, I find.
i gave it an honest shot a while ago and i just couldn't meld with the early game. i'll give it another try

I think this game have more problems than just absurdly high encounter rate.
But when even the first enemies you encountered (the bats) in the cave, the game's already shown it's rear ugly head; it was hard even with it's first enemies.
They could block/evade your attacks & done serious damage if there are more enemies.
This game need an overhaul in everything to make it more enjoyable... 🤦‍♂️
My one of the first PS1 JRPGs were ruined because of this & even the first PS1 SUIKODEN much more superior in everything than this.

There are alot of detailed descriptions on ROM pages in this site that have a lot of passion behind them (one example being Sabotain and basically most AlmaElma uploads on here). Writing's art too, and descriptions are part of it so I wouldn't like them being used for that either. LLMs know jack about obscure retro games so they'd likely get it wrong anyway.
i have no idea why i worded it that way but i also meant writing with ai when it comes to it being used for laziness, apologies for not properly saying it in the post

stuff like using it to generate descriptions without any changes is an example of what i mean and is fine, but using it as cover art just looks lazy to me? i think people overreact a lot to it but stuff like art is where i understand and also agree with it

I like AI. But it is a very divisive subject.
i think ai's best uses in this space are when it's used to automate the task of looking through code or reverse engineering said code to add changes

the former has been done for a long time and people are only now just doing the latter, but what i don't like about it is when it's used in just a. lazy way

hell, gran turismo 4 spec 2 (iirc?) or retuned wouldn't have gotten to the point they are now without ai being used to help reverse engineer the code base used for gt4, and that's one of the best examples i can think of of how ai should be used

what also bugs me out was the people in this thread defending the use by using 'you're insulting the people who made this hack! they put time into developing this!' as a scapegoat when half of the people complaining weren't doing that at all???

i just don't really get why they decided to run the original box art through an ai art maker instead of doing a basic edit considering the edit looks way better and less off, but i'm not the person who made the hack

Thank you a lot for this shiny hack.
Tried immediatelly and game pacing are so smoothly right now. Perfect.

This game was deserved for sure. With this hack it's 8/10 now and diamond in "Shining serie" crown.

Thank you!

I actually liked the encounter rate in this game. First RPG I had on the PS1 and one of my favorites on the system. Wish I could have a patch with vanilla encounter rate and keep Percy. I know about the debug code that could make that possible, but it's kind of convoluted and I'm sure I'd mess it up.

I have been playing the patch 1.1 version and like it so far. Pretty cool.

Hi, does anyone know of a Spanish translation for this game, or if anyone plans to translate it?
There are currently no known translations for this game to Spanish. It also doesn't have a Europe region version either. Maybe someone will eventually start a project to translate it?

Exactly, What a bunch of crybaby ungrateful idiots, It's free
Why should I be thankful for someone making an AI slop cover? It's not impressive, it's not difficult, and it just further cheapens the efforts of actual artist who take time and care into making real/original cover art for romhacks and fan translations.

get over it, luddite.
No no, they're correct. If this stuff doesn't get called out at all then it could lead to a normalization of this type of slop (like every single Fire Emblem ROM hack on here that sources from TGDB uses AI generated images, and DOOM 32X Resurrection on here used to have one too until people in the comments called it out).

Could we avoid using AI imagery in this site, please? Or AI anything, honestly?

You guys do such an amazing job preserving human-made art/work and making available for people. Let's not taint what's been built through all these years, please! :'(

Having standards used to mean something. I guess not anymore, as it would seem.

Are you going to buy a physical copy with this cover from somewhere? The hack could have a grey solid colour cover with just a logo on it for all I care and I'd still be interested in it. You know why? Because I'm really interested in the game... I really want to try an improved version of one of the first PS1 RPGs created by one of my favourite developers. If I was the author of this hack, I'd have removed it and I wouldn't share anything here again. It's free. Stop being Karens and grow the f up.
First. what the fuck are you talking about? Second. I also support some hack and improved version as well. And the third. Stop being Karens and grow the f up? Really bro That's just childish.

Well, nobody likes AI and me as well. I rather prefer original cover art. Instead AI Slop.

Who TF cares if this is a stupid AI cover or not? Just be thankful if this hack truly improves a flawed RPG, created from the same people who gave us the Shining Force games, the Golden Sun games and many more...
