Best version of each Dragon Quest game?

I think it depends. For 1-3 people will generally say the SNES versions, but the GBC ones are very cute, and there are also the HD-2D remakes.

For 4-6 people will say DS and they're probably right, but 5 also has an amazing PS2 remake which I strongly recommend.

7 has the 3DS remake and the more recent "re-imagining." Most people don't recommend the original because it's so tedious.

8 is probably best on the PS2. The 3DS version has more content but downgraded graphics and enemies are shown on the field, which I never liked.

9 only has one version, and 11 has S, although I hope someone will translate the 3DS version someday.

Completely agree on the GBC versions of DQ 1-3. I love those versions in particular if nothing else for their aesthetics. The first three games are simple enough having been 8bit I think they work wonderfully on that handheld. If you have an emulation handheld laying around, I would highly recommend playing those. Beyond that, the DS remakes of 4-6 are very cool. The 3DS versions of 7/8 are good though I prefer the OG PS2 version of 8 for personal reasons. 9 is a DS game. Ten was an MMO. The latest version of 11 is probably the best place to play it.

Dragon Quest 11 base version not the updated version graphics are more darker and visually better than the newer version, but that is only on the PS4 ver. 1.0 game. I think on PC it reverts to those graphics

I agree with people saying I-II-III GBC.
VII in 3DS, it's better than the original and recent remake.

You can play X Offline in Switch (or Steam) with the English patch. Keep in mind that resolution is very low, sadly.

I correct myself, VI is a good one, that said you NEED to play the DS remake, the SNES original is cheap with difficulty and encounter rate, DS polished the challenge to something manageable, may still need a guide
