My favorite by a million miles is PS2, the library is just totally unsurpassed by virtually everything else.

The PS4 is similar to me, in that it had such an insane amount of games, and there are quite a few of them I really enjoy. I think it's probably my most played system at this point. Also helps that I got a cool special edition (the red MGS5 one) that still works super well and doesn't even become loud.

Small power gap here.

I didn't grow up on PS1 but I had a few games for it that I played on my PS2. There are a ton of good games though, and I discovered a lot for it retroactively as an adult, I just don't have any contemporary opinions on it.

I love both the Vita and the PSP but Vita wins because of homebrew and the fact that you can play PSP games on it already, which makes the PSP kind of redundant in comparison.

Big power gap here.

PS5 is sort of neat because it's fast and has good looking games, I guess, but other than that it's not very impressive or interesting, and the new Final Fantasies don't warrant me getting a whole system just for them. I don't use it anymore because it was my brother who owned one and we're not roommates right now. My console of choice this gen is a Series S.

PS3 is probably my least favorite console of all time out of the ones I've owned. I'd pick the 360 over it any day of the week. It had Demon's Souls though, which definitely was a strong point for me.

PS2>PS1>PS5>PS4>PS3

I've never owned a portable PlayStation console, so I can't really comment on them myself in any way. Also while I personally love the PS1, and would probably say it is my favorite, I can't really ignore that the PS2 is essentially an improvement on it in every single capacity. The only significant gap in my rankings though is from PS4 to PS3. The PS3 is the only console that I think is just kinda... fine, I guess? Like, I don't dislike it, and I'm happy to have the one I own, but at the same time in a lot of ways it just kinda feels like a downgrade and is often the worst way to play the games that are on the system that aren't exclusives. Really the only reason that I put the PS5 above the PS4 specifically is similar to PS1 vs PS2. While the library of the PS5 is a bit lacking to say the least (though I will die on the hill that the one game meme is a vast over exaggeration) when it comes to its own exclusives, not only is it pretty much fully compatible with the PS4's library, but it runs them just as well if not better in most instances, and I don't have to deal with all the constant issues that I had with the PS4 just not running very well and sounding like a plane taking off.

PS2 > PS1 > PSP > Bloodborne Machine > PS3 > PSVita (it's the one system I don't have) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> I have a PS5 and I don't know why I got it

EDIT: You guys gotta hop on the PSP there's some great stuff on there

  1. PS2: backwards compatible with PS1, fairly easy to softmod, DVD/CD player, very good library of exclusives, Gran Turismo 4, the slim model is actually small.
  2. PS Classic (AutoBleem mod): play any PS1 game to your heart's content & to the limits of your USB flash drive, very cheap on the used market (I got mine for like.. £40), controllers are very high quality, very small & discreet.
  3. PS3: backwards compatible with PS1 games (not counting PS2 because the launch PS3 suffers from bumpgate), you can rip CDs to the hard drive (a feature I used quite a bit), very good online features & it was free, it actually did end up having games, eventually, decent library of exclusives, Modnation Racers, Little Big Planet, Gran Turismo 5.
  4. PSVita: backwards compatible with PS1 & PSP games (you do need to mod it however for all PS1/PSP games), easy to jailbreak, very portable, OLED screen looks good, PS3/PS4 remote play, very underrated standby battery life, it's rated higher than the PSP because of the dual sticks & it doesn't have the unreliable UMD slot.
  5. PSP: backwards compatible with PS1, easy to jailbreak, very portable, good library of exclusives.
  6. PS1: very good library of exclusives, the PSOne model has a cool screen accessory, Gran Turismo 2, Ape Escape. (understand, this low rating is not a diss, it's just that the above consoles can also play PS1 games)
  7. PS4: decent library of exclusives, I actually quite like the touchpad, basically a very cheap PS5 now.
  8. PS5: very good controller, no games.

The PS2 didn't have the best hardware of its generation, the online wasn't as robust and forward thinking as something like the original Xbox, yet every console still struggles to reach the heights it reached objectively speaking. It's proof that games trump everything else, absolutely insane library. Great first party games and neverending great third party games. Had an amazing personality on top of that. I can't rank the PS1 yet due to not playing nearly enough games released on there but I've heard great things, I hope to rectify that soon. I had a PS3 (still have one I jailbroke) and I like it but I don't really think it compares to the PS2, free online was a blessing though looking back on it. I really lose interest from the PS4 onwards to be honest, it just isn't interesting in anyway to me. I need to play more PSP and Vita games to rank them properly but I always got the vibe that they botched both releases. They could of handled it better and really competed with Nintendo but it wasn't meant to be I suppose

  1. PSP
  2. PS2
  3. PS1(PSX)
  4. PSVita
  5. PS3
  6. PS4
  7. PS5
I know that the 4/5 have been relatively successful and all that, but honestly, they just have 0 personality at all. At least with the PS1/2/PSP, you had games that really felt like they were iconic pieces of software for those systems.

I literally can't think of a single PS4/5 game that wouldn't work on almost any other system.

PS2 is and will always be my all time best console with the PS3 in second because of this all time classic.

Ranking Wise: PS2>PS3>PSP>PSX>PSVITA>PS4>PS5

In terms of what I actually played and spent time with enjoying?

1. PSX - No question, there.
2. PS4 - I was worried switching from my 360 initially, but adult me has probably played this more than anything.
3. PS2/PS5 - A tie, both have a handful of games I enjoy.

...and then I barely played PSP, and never owned the Vita or PS3.

Ranking from Worst to best In my opinion and why:

  • Playstation 5 Currently offers completely nothing new, also attempts to eliminate physical media. It's a powerful and very quiet console but the only impression I have learned about people who purchased it is that how quiet it is and the dualsense 5 haptic feedback features. I think it's still overpriced, and it's in the middle of its lifespan as in 2025 and still has lackluster library of exclusives thanks to Sony's mismanagement and aggresive leaning towards liveservice games. We all know how that all went.

  • Playstation 3 Early models horribly unreliable, very expensive at launch and sony trying to monopolize on BluRay technology. Although it Beaten the Xbox 360 sales during the end of the generation, it was rightfully humiliated. Despite all these grievances, Playstation 3 has a respected library. The reason why it's not higher is because how terribly it sold initially and the insufferable shovelware that flooded it during it's lifecycle.

  • Playstation 4 Considered by many by being "peak playstation" but me being a 30yo boomer
with heavy biases I will still place it lower on the list because again, it had initial success in sales because of the xbox one incident but sony mocking microsoft for making a tv focused "game console" doesn't justify the lackluster library it offered at launch. This console was also known for being a loud furnace despite many revisions, and at some point It was pointless to buy it because many exlusives we're just ported over to PC.

  • Playstation Now this is what I call a Playstation. You buy the game, you own it, a straight classic. Sure a lot of games haven't aged that well but many classics are so worth checking out and still being played to this day, and just like the Playstation 2 if you're hell-bent on playing without emulation, you either need a CRT picked from trash or recycling centres or you need an affordable upscaled like a GBSC

  • Playstation 2 Do I need to even explain why?

Without taking backwards compatibility/modding into account, personally I'd rank them like this
PS1 > PS2 > PS4 > PSP = PS3 > PSVita

I don't have a PS5

Hmm, depends. If we're talking about a console in a void, I'd go with PS1. If not, launch PS3. Can play PS1 and PS2 games, plus has a decent enough library, though it didn't match the 360's.
This is exactly my answer. For native library, its PS1 for me. But the launch PS3 plays PS1, PS2, and PS3 games so it's very hard to argue with that.
