Hi everyone. Today I ask you about your favorite puzzles. There's still someone playing them, right? They're the best genre to play on a portable console, in bed before falling asleep, or in the waiting room at the dentist or doctor, during your lunch break at work, or even on the toilet bowl [oops! ?]. As for me, I'll only list DS titles, since I like using the stylus for these kinds of games, but you can name games for any console. I tried to list only ten, but it was impossible for me to leave out some titles, so here 12: but you try to list more or less ten, okay?

1) Meteos
2) Bejeweled Twist
3) Puzzle Quest 2
4) Treasures of Montezuma
5) Boulder Dash Rocks
6) Call of Atlantis
7) Jewel Master
8) 7 Wonders
9) Puyo Puyo Fever
10) Tetris DS
11) Zuma's Revenge
12) Mr.Driller

Do kids today still play this category of games? Rather simple graphically and in terms of gameplay, but which require quick reflexes, intuition or reasoning.
A friendly hug.?
Your truly.

Magical Drop is, in my opinion, objectively the best puzzle game ever.

Reason: it combines the need for extreme execution with the need to think really fast, really well.

I never managed to get good tho. MD3 doesn't buffer buttons so it sucks to move the clown, and MD6 is just an overall disappointment (it never gathered a community)

Bejeweled 3
Peggle
Zuma
Bust A Move IV
Baku Baku Animals
Yoshi

1. Puyo Puyo Tsuu
2. Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo
3. Kurushi Final
4. Gussun Oyoyo
5. Columns III
6. XI Jumbo
7. Solomon's Key 2
8. ChuChu Rocket
9. No One Can Stop Mr. Domino
10. Ghostlop

Honorable mention: Puyo Puyo Sun, Kurushi, Tetris Plus, XI Go / Bombastic, Pitman / Catrap

Hard to decide which Puyo; Tsu or Sun. I.Q.: Intelligent Qube is something else, anyone remember the PSX demo? for Gussun Oyoyo I only played some of Zoku but prefer S- either way you can't go wrong. Columns III is one of MD/GEN best multiplayer games. Devil Dice follow-up and Fire'n Ice have time melting away wondering where hours went. Mr. Domino was the best blind budget purchase I made years ago at Best Buy, only recently was able to finish the game that last stage is a b*tch! ChuChu Rocket was one of the first games I went online on a console. the prototype of Ghostlop is mad fun especially with versus matches on Fightcade2.

Good taste there! I wish we got another with the same feel of the first on the DS...

I'd also put Panel de Pon (any version) but I have no idea how to make a top 10.

Sadly puzzle games are quite niche, they are limited and mostly seen as mobile game tier by many...

I'm more of a pen-and-paper kinda guy when it comes to puzzle stuff - crosswords, sudoku that sort of thing. I do enjoy their digital adaptations too. Other than that I like me some picross and definitely minesweeper. Shanghai (or mahjong solitaire if you prefer) also comes to mind.

If I were to list anything more advanced it would probably have to be something along the lines of Professor Layton or the 999 series. Maybe Danganronpa assuming it counts. Then again, I consider Hearts to have enough of a strategic element to it to tug on that part of my brain.

in no particular order:
  • Puyo Puyo Tsuu
  • Meteos
  • Super Puzzle Fighter ii Turbo
  • Devil Dice (also known as xi)
  • Columns iii
  • Intelligent Qube/Kuroshi Final
  • Panel de Pon/tetris attack/planet league
  • Chu Chu Rocket
  • Puzzle Bobble 2x
  • Tetris the Grandmaster - Terror Instinct
...by chance does the Point Blank series count as a puzzle game? sure feels like some of the microgames feel like puzzles

Some considerations on the titles mentioned:
-Lemmings: It made the history of video games, starting from Amiga and MS-DOS, passing through all handhelds and even Nokia keypad phones (where the characters are truly microscopic);
-Kula World: Nice rotatable 3D maze, through which you have to move a sphere to the finish line;
-Super Puzzle Fighter 2: I played this on GBA, fun Tetris clone with some SF2 characters;
-Professor Layton series; The idea of variuos puzzles scattered here and there within an interesting plot, with cute characters, is nice. Unfortunately some puzzles are really boring and irritating, and discourage you from continuing (unless you cheat);
-Gussun Oyoyo is cute and reminiscent of Lemmings, but with only one protagonist: you have to get him to the goal by moving pieces under him to facilitate his path;
-Bust a Move is the classic series of "throw the ball up" games to eliminate those of the same color, available for all consoles, from 8 to 16 bit.
-Fire & Ice: Progenitor of the genre, available for nes I think, sadly too rudimentary for my tastes. ?‍♂️

8. ChuChu Rocket

Hehehe... Chu chu rocket... Love that game.

Being a programmer i kinda have a preference for Zachtronics games, like TIS-100, or Shenzhen IO, Exapunks, or Human Resource Machine. Though Chemspace and Infinifactory are more spacial puzzles.

Oh! Clarc! Great puzzle game.

Prepare to face my wrath! I'm a new challenger I'll have you know!
It's not progenitor, it's a sequel to solomon's key, and a completely unique game as nobody ever even tried to make another one like it cause it achieved total perfection and everyone is afraid to be compared to it!
It's not just available on nes, it's the best god damn game ever released on nes! and I guesss it has been re-released on some other random stuff...
I dare you to play it right now! It's in the repo! I bet you can't even beat the first boss! You... you jewel peddler!... you monteboomer!... you puyo gobbler!... you zuma gagger!... you mr drooler, that's who you are!
