There are some things in gaming you never forget.

One of mine was making it all the way to the top of Mount Silver and facing Red with my friend by my side.

We had been playing Pokemon Crystal for nearly a month by that point, tackling it for a few hours after school every day and not even caring whether it rained or snowed (in fact, we kind of prayed for small-scale natural catastrophes to fuel our gaming fever).

Oh, it was a toughie indeed — I think we first got decimated by Espeon and Pikachu, but we just kept coming at it, eager to see if the dude we'd played as in the previous generation would say something, anything, to us after we'd bested him... but no, the douche only gave us a "..." reply. That was infuriating xD

This was around the peak of our shared fandom, too. And, needless to say, we enjoyed seeing the fruit of our labor (and conflicting play styles) immensely.

I normally play games alone, never having bought into the whole online gaming thing, so sharing such a moment with my lifelong partner in crime felt like the crowning achievement of something that — conversely — had just gotten started.

I know I already mentioned this somewhere on RGT, but there was this one time where my bro was playing pokemon, and then he goes "Wouldn't it be cool if I got a shiny Unown?". And then the VERY next encounter he goes "Yo bro, come here, I got a shiny Unown, I'm not kidding!"
And I know he wasn't lying because I was listening to him play the game at full volume when he got the next encounter. Will never forget that for the rest of my life!

The only other thing I'll never forget is that not once, but twice with two different friends (when I was a kid mind you!), I ran off mid-movie to my friends' rooms in order to play Smash Bros instead. Guess I wasn't the most loyal friend lol ::nervous-prinny

My and my friends tried to complete the final chapter of l4d2 but... Hehe
We never took the game seriously so we just kill the moon friend, wasting all bombs, blowing up the gas tanks... Dude the best Friday night...
(We didn't beat that chapter lol)

With my cousins I beat Crash bandicoot 4 (the PS2 one) and metal slug 6 and 3 and with some friends in discord I used to play Monster Hunter in PPSSPP

My friends are all busy with their own stuff, we don't get to hang out anymore.
Same for the most part. I noticed the other day I hadn't spoken to one on mic for close to a year, and another in close to two. Not for lack of wanting to, but because we all tend to just do our own stuff these days.

That's the bitter price of adulthood.

Haven't played with friends other than online friends, but I used to play remotely with children of my family, usually on birthdays and holidays. Those were the times! At least 3 of us cousins had the n64 at the time (me included), so we would just rotate homes and plug our controllers. Carts I mostly loved playing with em by the time was Mario Kart, Tennis and Party series.

These days, my interactions with my friends are solely sending memes to each other, or talking about manga/anime on occasion.

Very rarely do we get to play together.

Most memorable game with my bro was Mario 3.
We got murdered & mugged in'ere a lot, but we (well HE) beat the game anyway.

(This ain't a kid's story, we did this back in highschool. Guy's real special to me, & I bet most of us have that exact best friend. If not, you really gotta find em ye loners.)

The only game I actually beat with someone (my sister) was Bubble Bobble on the Famicom Disk System, mainly because the real ending was locked behind a 2 player clear. You get a bad ending if you win by your lonesome.

When I reached the final level, I put in the second player but couldn't keep it alive while unattended so I called my sister for help while she was passing by. Since she never played, I had to ask her to stay right by her corner and dodge all the attacks as best as she could while I made short work of the final boss.

Unfortunately after we cleared it, she started bugging me constantly to play Bubble Bobble with her and I got really sick of playing that game. (She got really good at it though.)

I'm not friends with him anymore, but despite all the annoying times of him getting actively worse as an individual, I sure had some fun times with them.

My friend watched me play through Xenoblade 3, and all the dialogue's custom swearwords for situations made him blow his kettle so hard he said "JUST SAY FUCK!" outloud and it absolutely killed me in laughter.

We also played some Gen 3 Pokemon together on the same computer through complicated wizardry running two GBA emulators and allowing controller support to reach both of those ports. That was a really fun time, we also had nothing but lo-fi playing in the background too. That was pretty damn cozy.

Edit: We also did SoulSilver and HeartGold, and on his particular screen I saw his whole team getting bodied by Electrode, when I got back home for the day and got to reading his messages on Facebook, I saw he changed his profile picture to the shit-eating grin of Electrode and I laughed so devastatingly hard that day from it.

It's also thanks to him that I went on to become a massive fan of Ys to this day, as I played through various games chronologically. He prefers to watch, as I went through the nitty gritty of going through the oldest games to the newest.

Back in high school, a (former) friend & I beat Firepower 2000 (Super SWIV to y'all "across the pond") together a couple times. I played the helicopter, he played the jeep. I swear that game is virtually impossible to beat solo..
It's a good game all the same..
(Fun Fact: It was made by just FIVE people! Two of which had the same last name)
