Backrooms is Trash

I'd still support independent work more than Hollywood.
What kind of Independent work do you support? im frankly sure you have a a lot of filters.

It'll never happen, since Hollywood won't touch anything with a Creative Commons ShareAlike 3.0 license, which is what all S.C.P. stories are under. This means anyone can make a movie, and anyone else can freely copy and sell it with no chance of legal repercussions. That's why you'll never see a multimillion-dollar S.C.P. movie... But that's also sad, I would rather see one of the better S.C.P. stories turned into a movie, like "When Day Breaks" or one of the other SCP-0001 "Files."

But alas, it won't happen.
How about a tv series?

i just finished watching "the backrooms" - it was 1hr 45 mins but honestly felt more like 3hrs , its like they desperately want to be david lynch with a dash of cronenberg , its just boring most of the time - the idea is fine and it feels like u could make an incredible film but its just wasted here.

Why the fuck did they decide to make a movie based on that stupid Gen Z meme. Hollywood has been reduced to a joke.
The entire concept of backrooms is some of the dumbest shit I think I've heard. Like imagine a generation scared of empty buildings.

A movie made by a 20 year old who was passionate about his craft and has worked on this concept for years?
God, fuck that guy.
I hate when hollywood tries new things, give me more 80s nostalgiaslop!

Liminal spaces and backrooms are not supposed to be scary but rather unsettling, eerie and portraying an abnormal state of a third place, a room or a hallway.

Conceptually it would've been a really great way of conveying that sort of "malaise" to people. In fact it's the loneliness that brings fear, not adding random monsters or something that would break that feeling of being alone.

The intro of 28 Days Later is a great horror movie intro to the point I almost regret it's not more like I am Legend:

If you forget one second that GladOS is there Portal would be a great horror puzzle game

I'd kinda argue that Hollywood trying ""new"" things doesn't always work (new doesn't always mean good) and that the 80's was a great decade (but I do agree that relying too hard on nostalgia could break it).

no offense, but

i guess you're not a fan of haunted house movies then. ::winkfelix
Haunted houses are fine. Empty houses not scary.

I understand the idea behind it. The fact that zoomers see places like that and find it unsettling is whst I find ridiculous.

I could agree that when people think that Super Mario 64 is unsettling that may sound ridiculous as it's clearly not a horror game and is mostly empty due to technical limitations than anything else.

On the other hand this is why I think Portal 1 is almost better than its sequel in term of presentation and ambience (whereas 2 made Aperture feels less lonely). I still love the Old Aperture act.

Things like finding the starkness of old 3d games unsettling makes more sense to me than backrooms type stuff. A lot of it is uncanny not just because it's stark, but everything is usually slightly wrong on top of being stark and empty. Mario 64's castle isn't just empty, it makes no logical sense in any way. It's more like the facade of a castle than a real castle. It reminds me more of a funhouse or something and the same reason those are always vaguely creepy. Though, as far as creepy, unsettling old platformers go, I think Glover's probably the best example of that on the n64. Everything about that game feels wrong.

I forgot to tell but Portal had backrooms before it was popular

As if Aperture was a studio set rather than a normal facility.

And even prior in another medium there was an idea of "something happening behind the walls"

Because they know they will make money on brain rot because well the brains of Gen Z, Gen Alpha and the Millennials have rotten away. Yes I said I think even my own damn generations has lost majority of their brain cells to rot because they been on internet so much they believe everything they their and watch so much tiktok their attention span is the same amount of time as a virgin sticking their D in for the first time 30 seconds.

What makes me think this film has a chance of being legitimately well made is that Kane Parsons, the fella who made the viral horror short film about The Backrooms and his own Liminal Horror short film called The Oldest View (which I thought was great btw) is the Director and Co-Producer. So at least instead of Hollywood twisting and melding a young artists vision, we're instead getting treated to that artist with resources to make his dream happen. I'm honestly excited to watch it myself.

I like the backrooms a bunch and the movie was ok. Kinda cringey sometimes, but ok.

Devil's Advocate here, at least there is no jumpscares every five seconds and they replicated the Found Footage decently

I prefer that movie 100 times than the Piece of Rubbish that was the American Horror Stories chapter of the theme
