Backrooms is Trash

Same reason they made a Shit tier Slenderman movie

Why the fuck did they decide to make a movie based on that stupid Gen Z meme. Hollywood has been reduced to a joke.
its no more than a stupid meme as the creepypasta that we all grew up with, id even argue backrooms and scp are just the evolution of creepypasta

I don’t really trust critic reviews
Not to bust your balls or nothing, Mr.President, but the User reviews aren't that far behind the critics on this one. Sure it's lame to make a movie based off a single image posted off of /X/, but like...

No, it's just a really lame thing to do, I don't know where I was going with this...

I dunno if it's any good. Haven't seen it yet. The slenderman movie was pretty shitty like @Zerpina mentioned earlier in the thread. BUT--Personally, I think the concept is interesting and I saw the trailer and will probably watch it.
I don't blame your skepticism though. I hope it's good because I like the idea, but the odds are you're probably right and it's gonna be shit. I dunno.

I definitely don't trust critic reviews either

From what I recall A24 greenlit a movie based off some kid's youtube series, so it's closer to that Marble Hornets movie from back in the day.

Regardless, why are you getting upset about it? You're saying Hollywood has been reduced to a joke when there's like ten billion production companies making ten trillion movies every year, do you know how much garbage has been put out since the 30s?

I can't blame him for being wary. Your time is precious, investing it into something is meaningful. It's good to know ahead of time.

These companies will often grab the rights to any vaguely popular thing as soon as they become aware of it because making a film takes a fair amount of time, over which time the idea becomes increasingly likely to have fallen off or become uncool. For instance, they secured the rights to that Five Nights at Freddy's film in April 2015.

That film didn't come out until much later and the IP proved to have been durable enough in the long term that it was still a success but the main idea is to cash in on some new trendy thing as soon as possible before its out of the public consciousness. It's especially common with horror films because those have fairly lean budgets compared to most of the breadwinner genres and can be put together somewhat quicker.

Because hollywood is creatively bankrupt
Can't wait for skibidi toilet movie

Backrooms work better as pictures on an imageboard because you could feel the eeriness just by looking at them.

Making a movie about those is like trying to make a SCP movie, that wouldn't work unless you make big compromises.

I've always loved the idea of liminal spaces and backrooms but I also hated when people started to make AI generated pictures of them or tried to give some "scary lore" about creatures wandering in them (who may or may not be former people that got lost in them).

The irony is that there already were "backroom" feeling movies before this one with the first Saw (the bathroom) or even Cube from 1997.

The Backrooms movie is based the Kane parsons web series adaptation. Its pretty good and well made for a concept as oversaturated as the Backrooms. its focuses more on the inherent mystery and isolation rather than the thousands of stupid monsters in some other interpretations

i would recommend it honestly

One: Hollywood has done shit like this before, or try to captialize on old memes when they were played out months or years ago. They did it with us in the Millennial generation too.

Two: I am still interested in seeing the film, because it has me curious. I don't care for whatever dumb controversy is coming from butt fucks on social media. They mean nothing to me.

I did not know that. Thank you.

So they basically did a Pixel? I heard the original short was much better and didn't overstay its welcome unlike the movie.

How come Hollywood often gets things wrong?

Remember when they tried to make Monster Hunter set in the our modern world?

It’s an ongoing series rather than a short. Kane did say that the movies story is fairly standalone. So newcomers don’t have to worry about missing anything

It'll never happen, since Hollywood won't touch anything with a Creative Commons ShareAlike 3.0 license, which is what all S.C.P. stories are under. This means anyone can make a movie, and anyone else can freely copy and sell it with no chance of legal repercussions. That's why you'll never see a multimillion-dollar S.C.P. movie... But that's also sad, I would rather see one of the better S.C.P. stories turned into a movie, like "When Day Breaks" or one of the other SCP-0001 "Files."

But alas, it won't happen.
