Azahar 2121.1 Changelog

  • Fixed an issue where the emulator would crash when loading a save state while using the OpenGL renderer | @PabloMK7 #1016
    • This change breaks backwards compatibility with save states made in Azahar version 2121 or earlier.
    • Before updating to this version, please ensure that you have saved using the in-game save dialog. To avoid the above issue, this should be done while using the Vulkan renderer.
    • For more information on how to appropriately use save states and avoid unexpected loss of progress, please read our blog post on the topic: https://azahar-emu.org/blog/understanding-save-states
Desktop
  • Added a scroll bar to the Layout tab in the settings menu. | @SeppNel #1004
    • This fixes an issue where, at certain screen resolutions, the height of the settings menu would be so tall that the Ok and Cancel buttons would be off of the bottom edge of the screen, and couldn't be clicked.

I thought there was only Citra as a 3ds emulator but it's nice that there are others.

After Citra was snuffed out by Nintendo alongside Yuzu, a dozen forks of it were made. Azahar is one of them and is the most up to date one. I like it but at the same time it stinks that Citra got shut down as that caused 3DS emulation to go back years.

OK, I didn't know Nintendo was responsible for Citra being discontinued .Nintendo is becoming more and more unpleasant to me.

I'm using Citra 2798, is it worth it for me to switch to Azahar or should I stay on Citra for the time being?

How old is this version compared to the latest azahar? Is this a fork made by other devs?

It's the latest official Citra build before it was nuked, I managed to get a hold of it

I see, in this case it's better to get azahar. You wont regret it plus you'll be missing the improvements made in the emulator.

Couple of questions if you don't mind, which one should I download? Also can I just rename .3ds files into .cci and that's it?

I think zip files are portable install, i.e. you unzip and you launch from the folder you got, could be on a USB drive you plug on other computers. The others are proper installers who will install on your current machine only.

And you'll need to convert the files if they're encrypted I believe. Previous versions of Azahar would read my compiled version of SM64 and the homebrew of DukeNukem3D, not anymore... I guess that feature was a bit risky to keep on developing the emulator with so many Nintendo lawyers around.

I'd say it's worth it. Azahar is based on PabloMK7's fork, he was one of the original developers, and Lime3DS. Both forks went farther than the original Citra did on enhancements and are able to accept the same files that Citra used. This makes the switch easier.

I still curse the yuzu/citra devs. Who the hell thinks they could create what's basically a for-profit cloud service for a companies currently running system and games? even decades old system emulators didn't do that. Geez, its boneheaded greed like that which set us back decades in emulation, and we were already on a very shaky legal ground as it was.
