I'm scrolling and scrolling and just can't find anything interesting to play right now. Literally could be anything off the rip that you think is absolutely necessary to play lol. I've been into SNES and Genesis heavy but haven't really tried anything that kept my interest.

What sort of games did you like?
I played through Streets of Rage, Golden Axe, and Final Fight so far. Beat em Ups are kinda my thing right now. I'm planning on going through the Ninja Turtles stuff too. I also really like platformers and old JRPG's. just not so well versed on those yet.

If you like platformers, try Monster World IV for the Mega Drive. A platformer with a nice amount of exploration and soft RPG elements (your character evolved by acquiring more life, weapons etc). And have a simple but nice narrative too! My favorite game on Mega Drive!
Sounds dope. I'll give it a try and let you know what I think, thanks for the recommendation.

I’d assume this is already on your to-play or have-played list but you can’t go wrong with Shinobi. Solid mix of beat ‘em up and platforming. You can try Toe Jam & Earl if you want something more chill.

Castlevania Bloodlines is also hella sweet. Love that game.

Someone said beat em ups ?

- Batman returns on snes

- Sonic Blastman 2 on the same system

If you have access to arcade games :

- Alien vs Predator : the Goat from the arcades

- Zero Team : Kinda like a super sentai team without the transformations, easy to pick up, lots of things to throw at ennemies, just like in Vendetta. Also Vendetta is good.

- Denjin Makai 2 : over the top and crazy, in a futuristic setting.

- Metamorphic Foce : pretty good Konami game, plays a lot like X-Men

- Ninja Baseball Batman : title is enough

- Bucky O Hare : a beat'em up with laser guns. Quite unique.

Hell yeah a sonic blastman mention!

I've played Bloodlines a few times but haven't beat it yet. This and Contra Hard Corps have really good soundtracks. The Genesis had crazy sound when utilized correctly. I am planning on going through Shinobi, and I have yet to play Toejam and Earl. I gotta get on that.

I haven't played any of these but know of them. I'll check them out for sure.

I think Konami has a phenomenal track record on mega drive. Can’t go wrong with their stuff.
T&E also have a platformer sequel if you’re more interested in that. I found it ok.

You mean on the 8 bits and 16 bits era :p

I don't think you could ever get a bad game if you picked a Konami or Capcom one back then.

Konami is sorry as hell these days but Capcom? Besides the obvious blunders (which a lot of those I even kinda like like DmC and Beat Down) they haven't really made games I'd consider bad. But I also haven't played every game by them and a few I just refuse to buy, (like the new Dead Rising Remake.)

Yeah, which is why I said “mega drive”, Y’know, a 16-bit console ::lol

I kinda like DmC too tbh. In fact it’s in my top 3.

Have you played Golden Axe: The Revenge of Death Adder already? Its an arcade exclusive so its easy to miss, but its really worth it, easily my favorite oldschool beat em up!

Mentioning only the Megadrive wasn't doing Konami justice, it needed to be fixed ::lol

I agree 100 %

I really loved DmC though, because it was more straightforward and easy to pick up an play.

The original games have better gameplay, well actually better everything, but outside of the bad writing and boring boss fights, DmC offered something different ( I love the esthetics of the game) and is just a dumb fun game, especially if you don't take it as seriously as whoever wrote this cringy edgy garbage ::lol

Oh, great point! They ruled practically both 8-bit and 16-bit eras!

I have to agree on DmC. It gets surprisingly uncredited for how honest of a game it is. No BS, just a very to-the-point fun action game.

no, i went straight to Beast Rider lol. I'll have to get on that

3 is the best one no contest. But even with the weirdness of it being a reboot that doesn't even respect the originals that much (seriously that part in the beginning with the wig pisses me off to this day) it actually has really good combat, and some of those ideas were transferred to DMCV.

If you're into 90s anime there is a Sailor Moon beat em up on SNES and it's translated into English.
I have played that one. Not for me. But I will admit that Sailor Moon has a nice vibe to it even if I don't like the show too much, it's also nostalgic as my little sister used to force me to watch it with her all the time as kids.

Try Spider-Man & Venom: Maximum Carnage for either system.
@Skeetos if you don’t mind a ps2 rec, I’ll add Ultimate Spider-Man to the mix.

I would check out some homebrews like the Kai Magazine offerings or the Asteborg series. Personally, I’ve been scoping out a lot of translated software since my retro game playtime has been inspired by GCCX or Dungeon Chill as of late.

On the beat em up side if You don't mind playing a newer game I recomend the River city girls games (the first is originally from Super famicom)

Try Blackthorn, It is a side scrolling action platformer, The action involves you ducking behind cover to avoid enemy fire, There are also npc's that you need too talk to to get keys and bombs to blast doors. It is a very fun game
