Anyone else love Metroid and Castlevania but also absolutely suck at them?

These are probably the two game series that I absolutely suck at but also adore, I've played Super Metroid, Zero Mission, Fusion (this one I was the worst at) and Dread (that one was probably a close second). Castlevania I've played Symphony of the Night (like everyone and their grandma), Aria of Sorrow, and another GB one I can't recall. Honestly I've played more Catlevania-likes than Castlevania, still love what little of the OG I have played.

Wondering if any of you have series you love that you also suck incredibly at.

Me. I've beaten OG Metroid, Super Metroid, Metroid Fusion, Zero Mission, OG Castlevania, Symphony of the Night, Circle of the Moon, but man Metroid Dread tempted me to punt it out the window. Honestly stopped at the final boss after an hour or so of trying. I don't have time for that, I got shit to do

I would like to play "Dread" but those robots following you and forcing you from screen to screen give me anxiety, hence the fun gets away.
I enjoyed the Metroid on 3ds, but I'm not really good with those big maps and backtracking so I haven't played other games of this genre.

Not trying to brag but... I'M THE MASTER OF CASTLEVANI— ...nah. I wish. XD

I'm actually terrible at the classicvanias, but I'm pretty good at the metroidvanias (when I take them seriously). Usually, if I play a metroidvania just casually to have fun and laugh around, I die a lot. But if I go in thinking, "I'm beating this today," then it's actually pretty hard for me to die, and I usually finish it in just a few hours.

Classicvanias, on the other hand, are my greatest enemy (which is ironic because they're my favorites). I die all the time, but I always have fun with their simpler, more straightforward gameplay. I don't have to deal with all the backtracking that metroidvanias sometimes have, which can get a little frustrating.

As for Metroid itself... yeah, I'm pretty bad at it. XD I tried playing Metroid Fusion once, but I gave up because I thought it was kind of boring. One day I'll go back to it, though—just like I did with Mega Man. Eventually, I want to beat every game in the series.

Well... Metroid and Castlevania games are sure hard for me. On the other hand, I'm not that bad a them.

I can't win Castlevania games without extensive use of save-states... ::smashy

And Metroid? I once tried to beat the NES version of it and failed! even with extensive use of save-states! ::irock

But i love both of them! ::terriermon-happy

Look at you making your own threads around here. I legit thought I was going to have to chew on you. Pfft.

Did you ever get to try Akumajou Densetsu, that Touhou Castlevania?

I might have told you this before but I'm absolutely awful at the NES era Castlevanias. Then again, platformers and I don't get along because I tense up too much. Except like, one of them. Still haven't played a single Metroid game.

As for series I like but suck at? Zero slash Fatal Frame. Yugh. IT'S REALLY HARD TO DODGE WHEN THE SLAP CAN COME FROM BEHIND YOU AND THEN IN FRONT OF YOU AT THE SAME TIME.

Castlevania, I'm pretty good at it.. the older ones as well as the new ones.
Not those horrible 3D ones, but I digress.... I abso-fucking-lutely suck at Metroid, but I still like the series.

I just wanted to send some moral support the way of some of the people in this thread. I think it's great you're playing games you think you "suck" at, but also, I want to make space for the idea that you might just be enjoying a game that is genuinely hard, or just a kind of game you didn't grow up playing, or any number of things! The important thing is whether you enjoy the experience or not!

Totally

I've never managed to get 100% nor speedrun any Metroid i've played, but they are still pretty fun to play even if i foregoe the exploration the series is known

In Castlevania's side, only the Classicvania games (The Metroidvania games are easy enough) i will die at least once per level, but i still come back and eventually win
