Anyone currently reading comics?

Pretty cool seeing this bumped.

I stopped reading invincible but I’d like to get back to it. If season 4 comes back, I’ll try to catch up. I’d definitely rather see the big story beats in the comic first rather than the animation’s nonexistent animation budget v
Invincible seemed really fun, but I stopped reading it for some reason. Kirkman really does seem to have a good grasp on how to write comics with a bit of an old timey flair to them (which is kind of how I write too when I do superhero stories), which might go hand in hand with his adoration for Erik Larson's Savage Dragon (which is really great btw, highly recommended)

I'm about halfway through Archie's 'Mega Man' series and IDW's 'Sonic the Hedgehog' series, but I put their readings on hold to check out Archie's 'NiGHTS Into Dreams', and when I'm done with NiGHTS I'm checking out 'Metroid Prime: Episode of Aether' and probably some more Batman.

Manga-wise I just caught up on 'Omori' and I'm going to binge all of Udon's 'Mega Man Timelines' series soon, amongst others.

Been re-reading my Plastic Man Finest Collection (been in love with the character since I read the Kyle Baker run in my teens) and it's just as fun, crazy, and enjoyable

I read a decent amount of comics. Just caught up with all of Saga just last week, which is good considering the update we just got from BKV regarding the next arc being written!

I mostly read outside of Marvel/DC, but the new Absolute Universe has sucked me right in, loving all of it. I'll probably give the new Marvel Ultimate comics a shot too, if I can find the time to spare.
I've heard that Ultimate Marvel is gonna be ending sometime next year. BS internet speculation is that they're canceling it because it's overtaking the main Marvel books in sales

I'm not surprised that it's doing well. No one wants to read comics where you have to do a bunch of homework - reading continuity cross-overs and a bunch of spin-off comics just to get the full story. Ultimate/Absolute are perfect ways for new readers to get into comics.

Absolute Batman is what got me back into comics after a few years away.

While none of the Absolute titles have spoken to me personally (still on the fence about Absolute GL), I'm always for bringing in new readers

Last ones i read, its Hulk The End from 2002 and the main Hulk comics run from the early 2000s. Hulk The End being the best and depressing story i ever read

I was an avid Mickey Mouse reader in the 80s and up to the mid-90s as, there were countless different magazines in Europe.

But after that stopped reading.

So I decided to cover lost ground by reading Carl Barks, Don Rosa, Gottfredson and Disney Masters from Fantagraphics

Finished Rosa and am close in finishing Barks. Best comics I've ever read and had read some of his stories in my childhood and I remembered them again.
Not so much into newer Mickey Mouse. Let's finish the above and I'll see.

I've heard good things about Barry Windsor Smith's Monsters which was originally supposed to be published in the 80s I think? But Marvel kind of bastardized the script to the point where BWS got royally pissed off

Also, not a particularly big fan of Hulk, but I did love the Immortal Hulk. Real game changer

It's a bit more complicated than that. If I recall correctly, Barry Windsor-Smith was pissed off because Bill Mantlo allegedly ripped off his story. If I'm not mistaken, Jim Shooter (Marvel's editor-in-chief back then) documented it, along with some other instances of Mantlo ripping off other people's work, on his website many years later.

Fair, I don't exactly have a great knowledge of Hulk, mostly just bits and pieces. I think Mantlo is a decent writer even if I didn't care for his time on Howard The Duck out. Still, it's amazing that Shooter did nothing when the guy is famous for making up bullshit excuses for stuff like the infamous "Ghost Rider meets God" storyline

Me neither, to be fair, but Monsters piqued my interest back when it was published, and I stumbled upon that story while looking up information on it.

Been reading a couple of things
-90's Superboy
-Boom's VR Troopers
-Dynamite's Captain Planet

Been enjoying all three. If I had any complaints, it'd be that Kessel's Superboy has a lot of older women romantically involved with/lusting after him.

VR Troopers and Captain Planet seem like good modern interpretations of their respective source material and I was a bit bummed that Troopers is only a mini-series

Read through the early set of Moon Knight to get a feel for him. His og origin was just a guy some dudes hunting a werewolf paid to put on a silver jumpsuit who really wanted to earn his bread. A not bad two parter heel-face turn for the 70s. Werewolf by Night has some surprisingly good issues channeling that EC Comics horror feel from before the CCA

Oh, the Hulk back-ups were amazing! Loved them. Moench has a good feel for pulp storytelling. Unfortunately some parts of the mainline book are underwhelming.

Like he creates this amazing backstory for Marc (even better than him being part werewolf thanks to Jack from Werewolf by Night) and he does absolutely nothing with it, even when Marc's Khonshu statue gets stolen

I went through my storage last weekend and wanted to share my collection of IDW My Little Pony comic books:

Oh damn these are really cool! MLP is one of those things I've always been vaguely adjacent to and interested in kinda so these are pretty neat.

In terms of Comics I've been reading, I've been keeping up with DC's Absolute line of comics, Absolute Martian Manhunter is so insanely good and interesting, I really need to get a physical copy of that.
The other stuff I'm reading or keeping up with are Webcomics, I've recently become an avid Homestuck fan and I've been keeping up with Homestuck: Beyond Canon for a little while, and I started reading an older, still running webcomic series called Megatokyo.
It's currently just a penny arcade-like thing but I hear it grows into a more story focused thing later. I've not heard about whether it's good or bad but the amount of time it has been worked on, and the art style, and time it is from, it's all really appealing to me in a way that I dont care if it's good lol.

I wasn't expecting the 3rd comic to have ToHeart show up lol.

I'm a bit of an MLP die hard at this point, but I'd recommend checking out a few episodes of Friendship is Magic to see what you think. There's kind of a lot to catch up on and I wouldn't say to force yourself if it's something you happen not to like very much hehe
