Anyone currently reading comics?

I read most of the Marvel and DC soft reboot/alternate dark universe stuff. I.E. Maker Ultimate universe and Absolute DC. Because while I bemoan reboots as a whole, it works. The marketing perspective works like a charm.

The pitch probably goes something like this. "Hey do you like these characters? Are you unsure where to start in this tangled web of half remembered decades long timelines? Or are you caught up, down to the most obscure side issue from 25 years ago?" Sayeth the marketing man. "Then you can have your cake and eat it too! Here's the same characters you love, but changed in certain ways, doing new(-ish) things. All new packaging, all new presentation, same great taste!"

I can't deny the appeal to the long time or the beginner fan. Especially when the creative teams behind each book is killing it.
The only real books that I was interested in was Absolute Flash, Green Lantern, and Martian Manhunter because I love the mainline books so much. They are certainly different, I'll say that

On issue 67 of invincible. It’s far past tge point where it fully drops all the hero deconstruction stuff and starts playing the tropes straight. It’s pretty good.

Me, i read some few days ago. I like unusual story as for comic. Such as starlight, which told story about old space hero who save the space, which is said to be only his halucination while its real. He spent his days until he is old, even his children is not believing his story. Until one day, one space ship from the planet he saved years ago, is arrives and invite him to save the space once again. Now old hero, has to save the planet once more. 6 issues of comic i reread few days ago.

I have soft spots with 80s-90s animated series (usually have toylines) such as gi joe, batman, tmnt, crystar, heman, xmen, and others similar theme.

I'm literally playing marvel ultimate alliance just to relieves the itch now : ))

Most of my knowledge of the X-Men comes from the various cartoons and movies (have a soft spot for Gambit, Nightcrawler, and Dazzler). I don't much care for the comics because of how daunting they are, but I do love Excalibur and Generation-X. As I've said before, I greatly prefer Valiant's Harbinger and Comico's Elementals over it

I think the first thing I did in the first Ultimate Alliance was ditch the rest of my party and just go solo as Captain America :P

Hmm, giving me idea, i think i will play as xmen team only now : ))

I wish they make this kind of game in the future. The gameplay is fun in my opinion.

Back in the 90s, aside of Logan, i'm always playing as Gambit in Marvel vs Capcom. I had some xmen lego, and gambit custom is also on my collection

tbh, I was actually kind of surprised that they let you get away with playing as a single character to begin with. Was kind of fun in short bursts. Kind of makes me wonder why more hasn't been done with Captain America as video game character. He's got a great backstory that's just ripe for exploration. I mean could you imagine an Arkham Asylum style game set against the backdrop of The Winter Soldier or something a bit more farcical with his early Kirby-Era Silver Age stuff done like the Batman The Brave & The Bold cartoon?

hmm, i think i will try it as well, it will give me some challenge, but well, I think i will like it as well.
I think i will need to mod it as third person camera, it will look awesome as well. but the bad it, my version is 2016. but i saw it on MUA forum, they left 2006 version as abandonware (?) I think. at least from what i read in somewhere else. so the 2006 is free, and can be modded easily. it should be awesome to play single character in third person mode

I read a bunch of it and thought that it was damn good and I don't even really care for The Hulk at all.
It is damn good indeed. I finished reading the run last week, and it was such a joy that I almost wanted it to continue for at least a couple more issues—which is crazy, because I, like you, don’t really care about the Hulk at all. I don’t think I’ve ever read anything with him as the lead besides this run.
Well, maybe a couple of issues from Greg Pak’s Planet Hulk, but that’s it.
The writing is solid, and the art is, for the most part, really good, too—with the body horror easily being the standout aspect.
So yeah, as I said: this is a damn good run, even for a non-Hulk fan like me.
I'm going to finish reading the special issues and tie-ins, and then move on to something else.
Only other Marvel book I'm following is Moon Knight.
I want to read MacKay's run so bad; I've only heard good things about it. To be honest, I'm not really a Moon Knight fan—I’m more of a fake fan. I've only read Ellis's run (which I enjoyed) and Lemire's run (which I loved). I've also read some issues from the OG run by Moench and Sienkiewicz, but that's about it.

I read a good bit of the original Moench run and while I liked most of the issues, my main nagging problem is that Moench really only uses Marc being an avatar of an Egyptian god as flavor text and rarely does anything with the concept beyond that, which really annoyed me. Still though, very good. Probably enjoyed the Hulk back-ups the most

This thread did inspire me to read some comics, so I decided on the My Little Pony & Transformers crossover from IDW comics!
It was an 8 issue miniseries, released in two parts back in 2020 & 2021.

Part 1: "Friendship in Disguise" sees the Autobots being sent to Equestria via teleportation magic and teaming up with the MLP cast to fight the Decepticons, who had partnered with the MLP villain; Queen Chrysalis.

Part 2: "The Magic of Cybertron" was the inverse. Set after part 1, the MLP cast visit Cybertron in the hopes of stopping the MLP villain King Sombra from taking over with his mind control magic.

Not the most complex of stories, but it is fun. It's fun to see the interactions between the different franchises, as well as the few meta jokes that the writers throw in now and then (The literal 2nd panel of the first issue makes fun of people taking continuity too seriously with these kinds of throwaway crossovers)

Plus, the art is just really cool to look at!::heart

My western comic reading is strangely attached to whatever game I'm playing. If it's Marvel vs. Capcom, I'd be perusing Marvel comics of whatever Marvel character I'm using at the era Capcom based the character's appearance on.

Last month, I played some old Batman games so I ended up reading that.

Right now, I've been playing a lot of Castlevania so I'm reading random Dracula comics and the old Tomb of Dracula series by Marvel. (I'm not a big fan of Dracula the way Marvel depicts him nowadays.).

Interesting way of getting into comics! Funny, I had an itch to watch, play (Stimpy's Invention on Genesis), and read Ren & Stimpy stuff recently and I started re-reading the Marvel comic, which is super fucking fun btw and an early credit by Dan Slott of all people.

And it's funny, I love monster hunter stuff (hell, one of my favorite books is Wetworks. Basically imagine Aliens but with the Marines with golden symbiotes that give them all powers and the Aliens and Predators as Vampires and Werewolves in a constant state of underground war with one another threating to spill over into the surface world. Also big fan of Hugh Jackman's Van Helsing) but Tomb Of Dracula really never was my cup of tea

modern comic creators make my head hurt. I'm pro diversity, but man some of them are so damn annoying. You try to help by giving them options but they won't listen. They are so full of themselves! Yeah everyone deserves more pay. I agree with that. Yeah it sucks when you get fired over stupid tweets. I also agree with that. But man. Goddamn. They whine over the most trivial shit! They make mountains out of molehills. They won't publish their own work. They insist on working for Marvel or DC. They won't go to Image which is more diverse. They play dumb too. They want the popular IPs. But their art is so shitty and their dialogue for the characters SUCK. There's ways to have drama between characters on opposing sides without talking like you're online all the time. I'm pro union, but some people do not deserve their position. I hate that the right wingers are firing people over tweets but my god, some of these people are just... UGH!
