Any Demo Disc Fans?

I can't even tell you how any times I played the Abes Oddysey & MGS1 demos, legendary.

Yes, If I'm interested in a game, I like to play the demo first.

I was into demo discs back in the day. They always intrigued me what new games were about to be released. from the one that came packed with my original systems Sega Saturn - Bootleg Sampler, PlayStation - Interactive CD Sampler Disc Volume 4, Sega Dreamcast - Generator Vol. 1 for example.

To the demo disc that came packed with some video game magazines Sega Dreamcast - Volumes 5 and 6, PlayStation Demo Disc (SCUS-94496 and PSRM-10560), Version 1.3. Then ones that were released for about five bucks PlayStation Underground Jampack (I owned Winter '98, Summer '99, Winter 2000).

Some of my favorites were playing I.Q.: Intelligent Qube, Fighting Force, and unlocking hidden content on them. Import Vault was my favorite section playing exclusive Japanese games that may or may not make their way outside of the country. Gangway Monsters, Shadow Tower, Irritating Stick were a few I remember.

Pizza Hut out of all places also had their line of demo discs, I owned Disc One and Powered ('98, '99).

A few specific demo's on PS2 of ATV Offroad Fury 2, EverQuest Online Adventures: 7 Day Free Trial, Genji: Dawn of the Samurai Demo Disc, Hot Shots Golf 3 / PaRappa the Rapper 2 Demo Disc (that came in the mail), Konami Preview Disc, Shadow of the Colossus Demo Disc, Welcome to the World of Online Gaming for Your PlayStation 2 (since I owned the modem).

It was always cool to get a demo disc from a magazine. I remember I got one with Killswitch on the PS2. I was blown away because it had a cover system. This was back before Gears of War kind of made it standard in third person shooters. The only games I knew that had a cover system was arcade game like Time Crisis. When my friends would come over I would be like, "You need to try this. You can TAKE COVER!". I just thought it was the coolest thing ever, even though the demo was like, 2 minutes long. I never got around to playing the full game though.

God, I absolutely adore demo discs, I have so many memories of replaying through the various PS1 and PS2 demos countless times as a child.

There's something quite special about having a small curated selection of demos to try, it encouraged me to try games in probably otherwise wouldn't. I love the amount of choice we have when it comes to demos nowadays, but the sheer amount of them makes it easy to get decision paralysis, at least for me Something I never experienced when limited to only what was on the demo discs.

And the menu music for the majority of those discs was a treat!

God I miss demo discs, my aunt and I still have all of ours. I can't remember off hand which ones they are but I remember some of the games they had like Spyro the Dragon, Gex: Enter the Gecko, The Unholy War, Tomba!, Tomb Raider II, Crash Bandicoot, Tekken 2, Akuji the Heartless, Xenogears, Final Fantasy VIII, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2, Blast Chamber, and many more.

They may not have been the full game but they were their own brand of fun like fun size candy bars.
