I remember this comment from @Clippy:

Grinding to level 99 on fast forward and then clowning on the final boss is one of finer pleasures in life.

After reading it, i always wondered... is there any game where the boss would notice an unexpectedly overpowered player?
I mean, like when you are way stronger than you are supposed to be at that point of the story... is there any game that considers that unexpected situation, and prepare a special dialogue/event/battle for it?

I don't know any example myself... but i think this is something that would make games a lot more fun!

I feel like Hades in FF9 has special dialog if you beat Ozma before fighting him.

EDIT: Also, not really a case of a boss being impressed by a character’s power, but Metroid Fusion has a hidden scene where ADAM is impressed with the player being exceptionally crafty and trying to sequence break. It’s at least an adjacent idea.

EDIT AGAIN: Also, I believe there is special dialog in Pokemon D/P/P if you evolve your Pokemon before returning it to professor Rowan indicating his surprise.

Yup! These are pretty interesting cases!
Not exactly what i mentioned, but this kind of special interactions are always interesting in games!

There must be several games wit that mechanic of scaling difficulty, specially RPGs, but at this moment I don't remember.

On Hollow Knight if you upgrade your nail damage, some bosses health increases.

Yeah, also, i know in Chaos Seed (SNES), the level of enemies and bosses will scale along with player's level...
Though, that's more of a balancing mechanism than a reaction from enemies...

Also, i suppose there are games where the progression of the enemy levels is tied to defeating them with a higher level or something... (i don't remember any example right now)
That mechanism isn't what i'm talking about either... because in such systems, it's not possible to become overpowered in the first place.

There might be but what came to mind was a villain in FFXIV Heavensward that shits his pants when he loses to you after all his boasting, it's especially funny if your WoL is a lalafell

While it is not directed to you, after you beat the final boss in DQ VI and complete the postgame dungeon you get to fight the actual superboss for this entry and if you beat it in less than 20 turns or something he will actually go and beat the final boss for you. Needless to say it was a complete onesided battle to the point the final boss strongest ice attack was basically just a slight breeze to him.
