Anime Anime that many people don't like that you enjoy

is the 1st 50 eps of Urusei Yatsura unliked? if so I am 1nce again in the unpopular opinon-ator category with deadly middle fingers attacking like Kenshirou yaaaah-tah-tah-tah-tah omae wa mo shin deiru with Lum screamin DAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHLLINGGGGGG BZZZZTT Ataru: "yaAAAAHHH dammit! I was almost to 3rd base with Oyuki~channnnnn" yea I'm a ye-olde otaku warrior suddenly warped to the future - unable to return!!

anyway, same question for BGC, Maison Ikkoku, Kimagure Orange Road, Appleseed, MD Geist, One Pound Gospel, Mermaid's Scar, Cowboy Bebop, Golgo 13, - hell, even Zillion's sad single pilot ep *tear falls to ground n grows a sprinkler* are these animes or mangas unliked?

Ghost Stories, The show was Basically a throw away series no one in Japan liked. so the Deal was "Do whatever you want, just don't change the Names or how the Ghost's are Captured" and the rest you have Free Reign to do whatever... And OH BOY did they. i will warn anyone who has never seen the Dub...
If you are easily Offended, Do not under any Circumstance watch the Show. if you can Take it on the chin laugh at Literally everyone/Race/Sexual orientation ect being made fun of. you may get a chuckle

(This is probably my reveal as someone who's not super into anime)

I'm sure I have better answers but the first thing I thought of was Naruto, actually, even though I know it's a popular one generally.
I avoided it growing up because so many people I knew said it was lame shlock, but I eventually watched the first part (pre-Shippuden or however you spell it) and that first part was insanely good, I was hooked right away.
I lost interest pretty early on in Shippuden though for various reasons but who knows, I might pick it up again sometime.

It's Haiyore Nyaruko-san for me, although I understand why.
Aired around mid 2012, when 'Anime boom' is at it's infancy outside Japan, this show is chockful of reference to Cthulhu myths, obscure medias ranging from anime and it's industry in general, video games, drama and toku, movies, memes, and much more, going as far back as the 70s to whatever is currently popular in 2010s. Now put all that in every scene for every single minute, and we got ourselves a 23 minutes air time full of headache for viewers who don't get it.

interesting. I may wanna look into something this satirical n dense.

Mobile Suit Gundam Victory is the 4th mainline entry in the Gundam series that almost killed the franchise probably because the audience lost interest in the U.C. saga after Char’s Counterattack. Good thing they decided to give it reboot with Mobile Fighter G Gundam. Though a lot of people hated Gundam Victory it’s still a good series and I liked it.

I was prepared to hate Naruto - for I felt there were other shinobis n kunoichis worth a popularity trendstorm. which is paradoxical n I only wish for success so obscure stuff doesn't fade away n aLL.

but I played this Naruto RPG on DS, forget which one... n Naruto n a couple others are gathered for lessons out in this foresty field by their sensei or shidoshi or wutvR - n he was HILARIOUS. his impossibly obtuse n inept slapstick n Leslie Neilsen-ish jackassery ofc made Naruto n the other students facepalm a few times but the fact that the game started out like that had me sold.

....now I gotta find it n continue where I left off. it truly is tough to 'get around' to every game you wanna experience, in'nt it? sometimes it throws me for a loop, I'm NGL. leisure has literally derailed my thinking n mood many times - but I guess, so does everything else. fun is still fun when it's PHUN, so yea Naruto is not a bad word for me since then. gotta 'get around to it' o_O

Elfen Lied maaan. Couldn't talk about this with your weeb friends who liked DBZ, Yuyu Hakusho and Digimon without getting the weird looks and in retrospective... fair enough. Strictly for edgy kids :ROFLMAO: heard it was awful, all about gore and 2D boobs... Loved it. the plot is great, very sad at times (I'm talking about the puppy flashback part mostly.) The manga is sadder. Soundtrack is flawless.

I had heard that His and Her Circumstances was boring and awful, yet I loved every damn second of it.
Never heard anyone say that but I liked it when I watched it in early 2021 & I started my first rewatch of it last year, though I'm slowly rewatching it.

The anime could be a show that lots of people think is dumb or they could think that it is a boring anime, but you genuinely enjoyed watching the anime. Maybe there was an anime that you heard lots of awful things about, but when you gave it a shot it was actually pretty good.
Holy shit it's Enomoto Naoya

elfen lied is one of those things that most everyone enjoyed back then but then as time passed they got self conscious about liking it. like akame ga kill danganronpa ect

Genocyber is not particularly good. It starts out neat and falls apart rapidly the further you get. What it is known for and why I kinda like it, is it's insane graphic violence. What can I say? You don't see much cyberpunk body horror stuff and body horror is my jam.

not exactly what the forum's about, but i think the 2003 fullmetal alchemist is VASTLY superior to brotherhood. brotherhood just doesnt have THE SAUCE of 2003.

I would say all the anime mentioned here are broadly liked by people who watch it.

Elfen Lied for one was popular, but people realised it was affecting more depth than it possessed, and that it was mostly mind-numbing, but punctuated by violence spikes. Then it ended early in the story, meaning that anime-onlies were left without much conclusion.

There was a lot of sexuality to it, but now most people who watched it as teens are adults, and probably not into naked children, so I think it just makes sense it isn't so popular any more.

One series I usually see disliked is Bubblegum Crisis 2040. It's a TV remake of the original OVAs, and unlike those, it has a complete story and it finishes well enough. I like it entirely more than the OVAs, including story, character design, visuals in general. To be fair, this one too is probably broadly liked, but because fans of the original OVAs are the only people who remember Bubblegum Crisis existed, and they don't like the TV show [as much], it often isn't talked up too much.

oh another one is wonder egg priority. people (at the time i dont watch or interact with anime anymore so idk if that's changed) said it was super disjointed and confusing, but i'd argue it wasnt even close to as bad as madoka in that regard.
Post automatically merged:

that's most anime that try to be deep through surreal imagery to be honest. madoka has some super interesting things to say, but a lot of it is in fact mind numbing which i know will get hate for that but it's just true. i think the only anime that's done surreal depth is lain, every other proper deep anime is more based on the minds of characters.

im wording this horribly but i know what i mean so i dont really care lol

I remember when Tekkonkinkreet came out, people remarked how they disliked the art, but man do I love the way it looks. The story is good as well.

I too heard bad things about Kare Kano and thought it was fine when I watched it, however I would say that the manga for it might have the most disappointing ending ever?

People love to hate Evangelion for some reason, and I've only seen the original 26 episodes or whatever it was, but I thought it was fine. Just a little (a little!) strange.

I'm not sure how popular it is or not, but Monster comes to mind. It's a long (50-ish episodes) anime rife with themes of murder, regret and other such uncomfortable topics. I quite like it, as it's close to my wheelhouse, but I can't imagine the masses raving about it.

I actually found the Tsukihime anime adaptation pretty interesting.

I mean, maybe not the anime itself, but the fact that people tried to adapt a nice game series (visual novel/fighting game) with superb visuals and compelling story into an anime, which happens to be my second most favorite kind of media.

Although, I think it deserves another try. It just wasn't well-executed like its "sister-franchise" Fate/Stay Night. But I honestly got some hope that, someday, it may receive some kind of reboot or a new anime made from the ground up and more faithful to its original counterpart.
