There's a hobby I'm really impassioned with while watching things and it's taking screenshots at really choice moments. It's kind of like being a photographer, that goal of snapping that one perfect cell / frame that just gets you. It clicks with your whole being. Sometimes I find myself going to 0.25x speed, reversing until I get the shot right.

Then that shot is uniquely "mine" as if proof of my experience, and thus my memories are preserved on my computer forever. I really love doing this, so much so it'd probably be hell on earth if anyone tried to watch anime with me. :loldog

That in mind, I want to see your favourite screencaps of anime that you've collected over the years.
Just make sure you post the anime it's from so people can maybe want to take a peek at the show too yeah?

Without further ado, here are some of my prized favourites so far:
Choudenji Robo: Combattler V (1976)

hell yeah, they look awesome.

i like doing it with videogames myself, specially when i finished them, picking a single picture that represents my feeling towards it.

im not that perfectionist about it, if it conveys me that feeling then its enough.

Wish I still had my old laptop, I had a ton of screenshots like this on there. The only ones I have on hand on this PC are these from The Castle of Cagliostro (1979):

I know people have criticisms of Miyazaki (many of which are valid), and a lot of hardcore Lupin III fans don't like his take on the character, but you really cannot deny he's a genuinely great director.

Considering how I am CONSTANTLY taking screenshots while watching anime, this sure seems like the thread for me lol.

I often take screenshots when playing games, too – usually to highlight various moments.

What an interesting idea.
I have never considered taking screenshots of anime before

I've been getting into Lupin, finished Pt.1 and heavily enjoyed it, with Pt.2 (the absolute juggernaut) coming up. Not sure I'm ready to ditch Lupin's green jacket for the red one, but I'm glad Cagliostro brings it back from the looks of it. These are magnificent shots, thank you. It feels like me and you go for the same sort of depictions for our shots.

Cityscapes in Sailor Moon shots always looked so exquisite, I love that 'citypop' charm it has with those incredibly soft gradients. Konata in a kimono also is just beautiful.

I got a few 1000 so maybe not I can decide.
You can maybe gradually sprinkle 5 of ones that feel the best to you to post in the moment, then return to this thread some other time to post another 5? Whatever feels best for you.

I do it with my films and tokusatsu shows as well. I find it heightens my love of what I'm watching, and helps me appreciate panels or frames that my heart really clicked with, like some of the panels I myself posted. There's so much work that went into the moments that those photos are based off and it makes the emotions I felt witnessing those moments stay with me.

Great timing with the lens and bloom in the third and final shot.

So, I had to physically search for some of these, since I delete the screenshots after sending them, lol.

The red jacket era has some great stuff in it too, don’t you worry lol. It ended up becoming his most iconic look as well (technically he was always supposed to look like that since that’s how Monkey Punch depicted him in the manga), but I do agree, the green jacket era has a special place in my heart too.

Yeah, I’ve noticed we tend to be drawn to the same kind of shots. In my case; I imagine it’s because I spent a large part of my teens studying cinematography (not in school or anything, just as a hobby) so I kind of trained myself to have an eye for specific kind of shots lol.

I did find this one on my tablet from about 10 years ago now when the JoJo Part 4 anime adaptation was airing:

Those Mazinkaiser shots are I N C R E D I B L E.
I can't wait to actively feel the jump to Kaiser / Z the Impact / Infinity, especially after the fact I finally finished my watches of the 70's adaptations of the shows.

It never dawned to me this infamous shot I haven't seen in like 10 years was from Ryoma of all things. :loldog

Indeed. They're still visually appealing over three decades later.

It's not just Konata. Kagami, Tsukasa and Miyuki look just as good in their yukatas.

Oh man, that's such a cool field of research, I wish my experience was halfly as richly influenced by your study in cinematography, it reminds me how my writing prose is completely self taught, I just used to study dialogue in many, many types and kinds of videogames (believe it or not) but in my case for photography it's a matter of pure instinct, like a sudden shudder in my brain that knows this is what it wants to capture for eternity. I wouldn't say I have a trained eye, but I have studied the compositions of fixed camera angles in many survival horror games. the Silent Hill's, Resident Evil, Haunting Ground, there's almost too much to mention.

I kinda cheated with VLC’s frame by frame button *coughcough*.
But it’s requirement imo to get to see all the frames the animators created. They spent hours on it so they already know how great it looks, but we only get to see it for a split second.

Honestly, being self-taught at anything is always the way to go, that's how the best artists etc. come about; they do it out of pure passion and resolve.

I actually took a lot of screenshots for some of my videos (it is "safer" than to use clips of certain anime), but I ended up deleting some of them later... But I still have some saved!

Was not expecting Raideen to show up, amazing taste. I'm kinda really glad this thread's bringing a lot of Mecha fans to light ::kefka-48

My next show after finishing up on Getter Robo (1974) is actually Raideen the Brave and I'm so very excited for it.

I still need to see Raideen the Brave, I only watched Raideen the Superior, and y'know... It's REALLY different from the original anime xD
But it is good to share with you all my love for mecha anime and for Enkidona. I love Enkidona çwç
