Thank you so much! What a great discovery! I've noticed that some chests that used to be missable have changed and can no longer be missed, but do you know if the rest can still be missed? For example, the chests in the "Nightmare Dungeons"?

It would also have been nice if the Legendary Sword couldn't be obtained until almost the end of the game, making it the ultimate weapon. But I suppose that's not so easy to achieve.

Do we still have an easier time with level grinding/encounters (and all the other perks Un-Working Design gave us)?
Un-Working Designs does two things: it restores the original balance (which is easier), and it changes one puzzle back to its harder form from the original release. I decided to keep the simplified US version of this puzzle, so it applies to both difficulty modes.

More details can be found here: Alundra – The Cutting Room Floor

There is one difference compared to Un-Working Designs:
The disappearing switch puzzle in Elene’s dream was harder in the original Japanese version.
I decided to keep the simplified difficulty from the Working Designs version, so this applies to both difficulty modes.

Ok yeah, this is a great hack now that I know more about it. I think making Moloch's suggestions menu toggle options would be cool for further customization but otherwise, this hack is the way to play this game now imo.

This seems like such a badass hack!

how does this compares to the unworking design patch

How does this compare against the Unwork version?
I did my own research and here is what I found:

Un-Worked:
-All Enemies have their stats set to the Japanese version (They were made harder in the US version).
-Timing of Elene's dream puzzle was set to the Japanese timings (Harder than the US version).
-The US intro that was added to the game was not removed.

Definitive Edition:
-Option to select Easy or Hard mode (Japanese or US enemy stats).
-Debug Mode (mostly for experiencing cut content & cheats if you want to use them).
-Skip the intro added to the US version (You can play it any time from the boot menu but most fans seem to agree you are better off without it. If you disagree you can still play it though).
-Easier US difficulty of Elene's dream puzzle was kept over the original Japanese difficulty.
-Legendary Sword no longer requires 20 game overs to obtain.
-Several minor graphical issues were fixed.
-Missable chest was made able to be reached after completing the area.
-Riverside Bar Mini-games only need to be completed once and their rewards were distributed to Wendell's Dream and the Fairy Pond.
-Original Japanese ending song has been restored.

So the Definitive Edition has everything in the UnWorked version except making Elene's Dream Puzzle harder and it has a bunch of other fixes & restorations from the Japanese version. The gameplay is mostly vanilla but with (imo) some tedious content removed like losing the game 20 times/doing the bar minigames repeatedly. And I like making it so you can go back and get the missable chest after you complete the area.

I'd say the Definitive Edition is hands down better unless you are absolutely dead set on experiencing the harder Elene's dream puzzle and outside of the additional bug fixes in this version the minor changes made to the game are all extremely welcome.

These are the things that, in my opinion, would improve your patch. Please do not take this comment as bad criticism. Your work is highly appreciated. Also please note that this is from a user's point of view. And also note that I don't know how feasible these things are. Here's my sort-of-wishlist below - the things that I would do if I would be the super-master of coding. :-)

- I would have kept the intro.
- I would have that initial mode screen hidden, appearing when pressing a button (e.g. select button before, or, during the intro). If nothing pressed the game would have the Japanese mode by default.
- On the mode screen I would have a "(JP)" after the word "Easy" and a "(US)" after the word "Hard", to clarify the users what these modes are, what is easy and hard.
- On the mode selecting screen the disappearing I would add a toggle button to enable the easy mode on the switch puzzle in Elene’s dream (if the US version is not selected). By default I would leave the difficulty unchanged, being as originally designed and have this difficulty optionally changed.

So how does this version work with the dream puzzle from a few months ago. Are there any caveats with this version (because I have two separate versions of this game just to compensate for the harder puzzle, while everything else was made easier)?

This would have been real nice to have when I made the long-play video.

Although I'm not fond of the legendary sword being obtainable without dying 20 times. You don't really need It. "But why you complaining-" I like to have the message pop up to remind me I'm doing fine without It especially on recording!

Does this patch contain all the changes from the Unworking Design patch?

Oh! I can't wait to try this on my M64!!

From what I recall messing around with the game years ago there's an unused version of Meia's dream with different puzzles. Is that available from the cheat mode here? I never got the chance to finish the map list.

I hated the roulette game. I could never figure it out. ::angrygenjin

Now, this is gold! I've been looking for a new “excuse” to play this fantastic game again. Thanks, Spike!
