Somewhere only God knows.
Roughly 2 weeks have passed since I ended high-school and in those 2 weeks I have truly realised that I am no an adult, or at least that I have entered adulthood and that now I have a lot of responsiblity, this, of course, has been a big shock to me but at the same time I feel very happy. But yet again, on the other hand, I still feel very sad that I am now not a kid or a teenager anymore, I am not going to be as carefree as I was and I will not have as much freedom. But to that, I, of course, have become very tenacious in trying to protect and trying to regain this sense of freedom and carefreeness, but enough about all of this. What about you? At what point in life did you realise that you had become an official adult, and how did it feel? Were you disappointed, excited or maybe even angry?

I think it was the first time I heard someone refer to me as 'that man over there'. It was a bit surreal hearing man instead of boy or kid. Honestly you have more freedom as an adult than as a kid or teenager but it's not necessarily a good thing. You have all the freedom to make mistakes and fuck your life up and nobody's going to stop you. But you also have the freedom to do all sorts of cool shit you couldn't do before. Especially once you start making money.

Yeah, that's very true. Money runs the world and if you want to do all the cool shit you thought of as a kid, well, you need money for that.

I became an "adult" not officially at the age of 15 when my baby brother was born. I learned everything I needed after that from changing diapers to driving, as well as ditching a lot of my social life I had up to that point by getting an early job through a technical program blah blah blah.

It became clear to me that my carefree life ended when I had to leave high school and start working, but that doesn't mean I'm a functional adult. The truth is that as Heiter said, my mind has hardly changed since I was a child.

I'm responsible and all but I've never felt like an adult but more like a twenty-something with a lot of stress on top of it.
Happy Snow Day GIF

Join the army like I did when I was that age. Fast track to jaded manchild at least.

Agewise, I'm definitely an adult, because I'm sure not a kid any more. But I still feel like a lot of times I approach life like a little kid, unsure how to go about things or who to ask. So it's tough to say. Being able to live alone and "make it" didn't make me feel like an adult, getting a bunch of grey hair hasn't made me feel that way, so I'm not sure what will. In a way, it's nice because I feel like I haven't turned into a sour old person. Idk.

Just for some quick advice. Never feel like whatever you're doing is "surviving" instead call it "success" and that can go for anything you do.

I'm a kid at heart, still am. My skin may wrinkled and hair fallen off, but I'll make sure the soul within is the same ol' brat I knew since years ago.
It does pain me knowing that I'm one of the very few left of my mates who are still "wild and free".

Adulthood and getting older was something that happened so slowly and so gradually that I often tend to forget how old I am.
The first time I worked a job where I was put in a leadership position and had younger employee's looking to me for guidance felt incredibly surreal, as in my head I'm still just a dumb kid making it up as I go along.

For anyone who is in a formative age of 18-24, I would highly recommend chilling out. Stressing out about becoming an 'adult' is something I held against myself for a long time. I almost enjoyed how much it ruined my enjoyment of everything. I used it as a badge of honor when I prevented myself from enjoying things. "I'm an adult now."

Whether it's school, work, home life, whatever. Learn to just live within the moment and that your only duties are whatever are current, pressing matters. Do not do something because society wants it to be that way. Live within your own means. Learn right now, especially right now while you've got time, to love yourself and be proud of the person you are. Focus on taking life one day at a time rather than trying to set a million long goals.

I feel like an adult cuz drugs or something idk

I never really feel like I'm an adult. I think we're all just big kids pretending
I agree with this wholeheartedly. The idea of adulthood we have as kids is largely a myth in my opinion, and we mostly just wing it to a degree.

Take a shit ton of Adderal and go raving on the street that’ll make you feel like an adult. /j

Aw that sucks
I kinda pissed away my entire childhood myself to play more games. Was it worth it to never finish ReCoded anyway? I dunno. My idea of adulthood is just the live I had back then, but I learn how to seek out my own shit though.

I tend to forget that i'm an adult, but i don't really care about it, i try to stay like a fucking kiddo anyway i guess.

It's interesting, because there's this constant sense of yearning. It's almost a fallacy, where you constantly want to spend your time doing something like playing video games. But then once you have the opportunity to play games for years, and do so, you eventually just want to stop playing them and move on. Then, you see what else there is to life, and then it makes you want to just go back to play games again.

I mean this in the best possible way, but if you've just left high school, you are still not an adult.
But you have certainly reached a new stage in life, with its own trials and tribulations, and I hope you enjoy all the new opportunities and experiences being that age brings.

I can say now at 39, I did not truly begin to become an adult until I was 27. This coincided with a mental breakdown, hitting financial rock bottom, meeting my wife, but all of that is entirely incidental in hindsight. Yes, I have a severe mental illness. Yes, I had a traumatic childhood. But I became an adult when, after those events at 27, I finally made the choice to stop using those as a crutch, accept that no one is going to save me if I will not, and do the hard fucking work to scrape together some kind of a human being from the fragments.

That is the key indicator of adulthood in my mind: choice. And not only choice, but the recognition that you ALWAYS have a choice, and have to make a choice. Even doing nothing is a choice. Apathy is a choice. Anyone who says "I have no choice" is committing a falsehood. You never lack choice: what you lack is OPTIONS TO CHOOSE FROM. THAT realization was what really started the long trek toward being an adult for me, and I'll freely admit I only felt like one in the last few years. Adults choose to choose. I didn't have options. So - I made options. Shook trees and screamed at the sky until they fell out. It is a glorious goddamn mess, but it's my mess, by god.

I never had the "I'm an Adult now!" moment. More of a hi, I can do more things now since I'm an Adult who can make money.
I felt more like a task line of a new mission opened up more than anything.
But I have to pick and choose which missions or quests are worth my time.

Don't get caught in the shiny, million things trying to distract you from the main quest Ubisoft syndrome style of living life, and you'll do absolutely alright. This I believe!
