According to recently polled Japanese game developers, 100% of them are currently using Gen AI

No surprise, when Sega said the Crazy Taxi team used some form of AI, grifter Sonic fans went ape sh*t in every Sega thread they could, annoyingly. They could've just moved on and not bought the game to show their dissatisfaction without acting like a parrot and repeating the same thing over and over.

I like how you call sonic fans grifters when Sonic team just released a comic that is very anti-ai

Don't confuse a creator's message with what the company that owns the rights does. Sega's CEO is working alongside nvidia's CEO, the biggest force in AI right now, and corporations aren't humanitarian organizations. Nothing is black and white.

They are grifters, yeah.

Oh another AI this and that thread.

I would get the popcorn out and ready but I am tired to tired of it all..seriously almost 3pm over here.
Tired At Home GIF

honestly don't care if they use Ai its still miles better than child labor used in so many products we import,so AI in video games seems like a nothing burger compared to that much bigger issue.

But well AI games should still be marked as such so people who wanna buy it can buy it and people who don't can avoid it.
Maybe add a Ai filter to steam to why not.

i feel like grifter fits the pro-ai people cuz all of you are thieves
To make art is to usually "steal"/be inspired... AI can be good if utilized correctly just most AI art is AI slop.

I do feel that if you do make art with AI you need to put a disclaimer so that "purists" can sleep well.

hey so ....some context
im a digital artist by trade, its what i make a living doing.

let me state this short and sweet, if you use ai you ar not a artist....if ai created a image then that is not art.
No artist worth their salt is ever going to use ai, and the ones that do RIGHTFULLY lose all respect from artists and their communities because they have shown they are nothing short of a parasite.

As for theft there is a very big difference between taking inspiration from a fellow artist and straight up stealing their style and in some cases straight up tracing the original drawing made by a real artist.
This isnt even going into how ai using a LORA trained off one artist can ruin the actual artists career by generating hateful or in some cases illegal drawings.

The simple fact of the matter is that ai art is a plague, it is not art, it doesnt take inspiration and has value to those who simply dont want to pay a real artist what their time and effort is worth.

This isnt about being a puritan its about stomping out a parasitic plague from art circles

First of all I commend you for being an artist as it seems like a rough life.

Okay, look. if someone starts with AI and then drafts upon the AI or uses AI to get a concept of their idea before beginning to sculpt their vision. That is a lot different than someone copy pasting characters using AI.
Heck didn't RE:Village basically plagiarize an enemy allegedly and I dont think that was done with AI? Even the fantastic RE4 had some art assets used from obscure artists allegedly without AI being the culprit.

AI is just a tool that artists can use or not use. Their choice.

no its not, ai is not a tool for artists

its the general consensus of the entire artist industry including studio artists that if you use ai in your art IN ANY CAPACITY then you are a complete fraud and are not a artist.
once again, anyone who uses ai to generate "art" is a parasite and is rightfully publicly shamed for trying to be a grifter in a industry that is ery protective of their talents

If a digital artist can't compete with gen Ai it's a sign your work probably isn't good enough or just not valued by the market.

Human artistry will always be valuable, the actual good ones will be able to survive. The mediocre ones will have to find a new living. That's a reality for most people in all fields, if the market isn't there you find another occupation.

Irony is that maybe with the help of Ai mediocre digital artists could deliver better output and maybe survive.

But this is a reality everyone with white collar work will have to deal with, Ai is not going away, doesn't matter if you like it or not.

True Ai itself won't put artists out of work since Human made art is always valued since its not only the quality of a art piece people value but also the time put into it.

So the blind hatred towards all and any AI feels like the Satanic Panic 2.0
fc38cc2d-e374-4cef-a69b-bfe5c2179a02.webp

like many things AI including AI art can be used for good and for evil like air planes Cars and Nuclear Energy, its not black and white AI can of course bring problems and it will but that is more thanks to greedy Humans in Suits rather than the fault of AI itself those suits always found and will find a way to put people out of their jobs to safe some money.

I try looking more about the positive aspect AI can bring us if used right like Language Learning/Translations and in the Medical field hopefully space exploration and space colonization in the future since they don't need sleep or drink or eat they work 24 hours non stop.

even if I doubt Antis gonna watch the full Video or at all.

An Artist shouldn't be judged by how much content they can make. I'd rather have 1 good piece of human made artwork than 10 shitty pieces of AI Slop. I don't care how many times you say "AI is inevitable". I and plenty of others are still gonna hate this snake oil

Capitalism says otherwise, they will always go for the cheapest and quickest way to make stuff, even if it results in utter trash. Artists will be tossed aside and will be unable to continue on their passion due having no money or career to support themselves.

Humans do value Man-made art, but the billionaires in charge of running this planet who i would hardly consider human don't. its why so many people around the world get fucked over by them through lay offs and terrible working conditions

i already had all three of these weirdos on ignore, good to see that wasnt a mistake lol

That's really disappointing to read. I can kind of see why but I think using it just does more harm than good when it comes to making stuff. If it's just using it in miscellaneous things I guess I can see why. I don't like it but there isn't much that can be done unless setting up and maintaining a model ends up being too expensive. Maybe legally but that's not very feasible individually.

weird example, AI is nowhere as dangerous and actually a benefit in most cases
Yeah I can see it, but it's a massive resource hog right now. At least for the language models since they're designed to be used by a lot of people. It's already affecting electricity bills and water reserves as it is. Locally I can see some use for it for archiving or sorting.

I'm sure its not only those generic gachas that use it. I think it is being used to make a lot of those horribly isekai novels too.

But that's it, if the consumers is happy paying for this, give it to them.
That would depend if the companies or publishers would even be willing to be transparent about the use of a language model in the first place. Maybe in like open source projects as placeholders, i dunno. I'm still not comfortable treating a generated "product" as the final result.

well...crap.
yeah this thread is a minefield XD

Looking forward to seeing a lot of the anti-AI folks on social media doing a 180 on not supporting games using it. I just don't believe that the vast majority of them have the self-control to not buy the newest Capcom, Square Enix, Sega/Atlus, etc., games.
Yeah... social media does weird things to people.
Post automatically merged:

the least they can do is be transparent about their use so i can know what games to skip
Honestly this would be amazing! Would be cool to have a site that specifically puts whether or not a language model was used in a game!

Doesn't really sound like they're using "AI" to actually, like, MAKE the games or anything. Though I should point out that this article is talking specifically about online game developers. So, the live service stuff, lol.

(In case you missed the words online game in the first post, that is.)
man I really hope you're right about that XD

I mean... it's the new toy.

Remember when everyone went Bloom crazy? Or Flash crazy? *Shudders*.

It'll sort itself out.

It always does.
It can be fun to mess around with a local model! Stuff like AI dungeon was fun to mess around with for a bit back then. The real issue is that it's being put everywhere and forced into places it shouldn't be. Hell the data centers cropping up are in part because of the resources a language model needs at a large scale. Training one is also quite a resource sink too.

yeah, the games look alright but something about them looks off to me. It's like the online skate game there's like no style to it and that's half the game's appeal (well the style it's going for is very watered down at the very least) XD

These people can't have a normal debate that's why the all retreat to echo chambers like bluesky, reddit or resetera. If someone counters their arguments they fold immediately as you can see, quite sad.

That's for the market to decide, like everything else in this economic system. Artists aren't special snowflakes immune to supply and demand.

Also do you call computers and other tech "snake oil" too? Doesn't make sense.

Without Echo chambers some fanatic Ideologies could not survive wihthout constant yes man.
Not all AI haters are of course like this some are reasonable sadly the majority does not seem like it
they repeat the same old phrases like on record.

Actually, we are. Supply and demand belong to the sphere of necessity, they are means rather than ends. Are we merely feeding and clothing a species that exists for no other reason than to hunger and shiver?
Supposing the species was a ship, do we ask the passengers or even the engineers to explain the route? No, we look to the captain. And when our hypothetical ship is planet sized, and the infinite blackness of space is our ocean, perhaps even the captain is groping through the dark.

Artists and philosophers are the captains of the human ship, we are the organic priesthood of humanity, we are the sensory organs of the species. Humanity comes to understand itself through us, and through no other means. Even science can only elucidate the means, not the ends, Aristotle demonstrated this in his Nicomachean Ethics.

So you have it backwards if you imagine artists must satisfy the public, we are not here to entertain or sooth you, we are here to instruct you. Learn from us or perish, the choice is rather simple, and we don't really care if you choose the latter.
In regards to AI, we are glad it ruins the lesser aspect of art (mere decorative clowning). We hope AI will drive more artists to the conclusion we have arrived at, that we were born to lead humanity, not to subsist on its charity.

Thus spoke Amalia 😉

Now I'm interested in the kind of art master pieces you make. Please do share some of your art.

So you can sneer at it? We are very sensitive about our art, one wrong blink and we cry. Artists are by nature sensitive, we are not ashamed to be afraid of your crude appraisal, we wouldn't subject ourselves to such discomfort.

We also feel no need to qualify any statements we have made, they were expressed with enough eloquence to convey our intent. We did not even speak for you, but merely to propitiate our anger. It is enough that we are satisfied, that is all.

I see conflict between AI loves and AI haters I am tempted to join the battle but the capitalist in me
also wants to sell to both sides and make a profit out of it
