I'd like to think they'll release a turn-based RPG but from what I gathered from the last 2 FF games, Square Enix has given up on the genre they helped popularize.
 
i thought final fantasy xvi was wonderful so i am excited to see whatever bun is in their oven next
i can see why some would dislike the game as it is almost entirely an action game with some very light rpg elements, but it is a fine action game in my book
 
Honestly I think they should look at their own titles before others. They had a lot of ambitious games with weird ideas they can reuse.

-Elnard/The 7th Saga: 7 playable characters with their own different stories and playstyles

-Live a Live: different episodes for different characters

-Mystic Ark: prog rock/neoclassical music. I’m a bit tired of all the orchestra, I miss the rock

-Seiken Densetsu: freedom to name the characters whatever, boss diversity

-Star Ocean: everything in general, Final Fantasy 17 should be Star Ocean

How bout none seeing that they know how to make rpgs? I don't get this post.
considering how the last few final fantasy games have turned out, and their own surprise at games like bravely default being well liked and received, i think it might help to revisit some of the old games to help them remember what a regular rpg is like.

Why would the new Final Fantasy be turn based? If someone wanna play turn based rpgs they can just play the Pixel Remasters or something.

the pixel remasters are average at best.
people do get tired of the same thing being pumped out again and again. a new game with a new story and some sort of new take or idea on a turn based system would be interesting. or just surprising everyone by going back to the very first game's set up would be interesting as well.

ff7 could work quite alright as an action rpg. crisis core was very good and it was an action rpg. it's has a solid engine that could have been used for the remake games.
