NDS 3DS/DS games recommendations

Great version of Tetris
Castlevanias are all solid to great
Good Animal Crossing
....? I know I had other DS games but I can't remember playing them. I know I had Contact that was mentioned above but I don't know if I ever even opened it. I know it was $34.99 in Santa Ana, CA. That's all I can tell you about it.
i got a bunch of mine when Target had em all on clearance. lol They were 14.99 each!

I see a lot mentioned here so I go for one of my favorites, I don't know if they are best but they're good games:
- Solatorobo.
- Blood of bahamuth.
- Castlevania order of ecclesia.
- Lufia curse of sinistrals.
- Final fantasy Crystal chronicles (the two are good actions rpg)
- Final Fantasy Tactics Advance 2.
- Summon Night twins age.
- Fighting Fantasy.

Oh, if you want a cozy, farm-like, life sim game

EDIT: This site is so weird sometimes, had to edit my post because it didn't show the pic

I really like the Fire Emblem where I can create my own character.

I would say Castlevania Order Of Eclessia or some Mario & Luigi but those were already mentioned so, Puzzle league because is fun to play it with the stylus

this is a duplicate thread

Do you plan to buy games or can you get them here? "Okamiden" I think it's pretty expensive now (not sure if there are cheap copies), I recommend it. It's kind of a sequel/spin-off of "Okami", I've played it first without playing the original game and it's been awesome drawing on the screen.

Other titles I've enjoyed and recommend are: "Final Fantasy 3", "Final Fantasy 4" if you're into RPG, "Another Code" if you like point-and-click adventures, "Super Princess Peach" for a very cool platformer in Mario world but with Peach.

  • Final Fantasy IV (DS remake)
  • Sonic Rush
  • Tetris DS

  • Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars

Yay for "Golden Sun": its mechanic are a bit Pokemon-like, you find various creatures (a fixed number) in the world, and when equipped (if I remember correctly) they allow you to use powerful skills.
The battle system is classic turn-based, and thank to the touch screen you can solve many little puzzles with the help of your elemental powers. RECOMMENDED (if you can get it here on repo OR find a cheap copy, but this as well I think is rare)

Huh, no Brain Training? Don't think you can get away from the edutainment!
DS does have some games that help with learning a language too. My Chinese/Japanese Coach offer fantastic tools to speaking and writing.

Anyway I've not seen Style Savvy, or Studio Boutique) mentioned. Pretty chill game.

Fantastic picks from everyone so far!

Only things I can think of to add would be:
The remakes of Dragon Quest IV-VI - Absolutely fantastic, stupidly gorgeous games.
Etrian Odyssey I-III - Really fun and really difficult DRPGs with a charming minimalist presentation.

Or for something extra obscure:
The Dark Spire - Think Etrian Odyssey, but even more minimalist and with a really unique look to it. (This one's hard as hell btw - almost Wizardry levels of challenge)
Retro Game Challenge - A collection of retro hommage games from various genres with a super charming presentation and story surrounding it.

I'd second a good amount of the RPGs and other games up above. To add something different, Feel the Magic XY/XX and Hotel Dusk are two very different games but both are incredible and built for the DS. Feel the Magic is basically a Warioware/Rhythm Heaven clone with a really cool aesthetic. Hotel Dusk is a brief visual novel that plays with what all the DS can do, has a beautiful art style, and is a neat tightly told noir tale.

Seriously though, tons of stellar games were mentioned above. Great taste everyone.

The Essentials:

Super Mario 64 DS
New Super Mario Bros.
Mario Kart DS
Mario Party DS
Partners In Time
Bowser’s Inside Story
Kirby Canvas Curse
Kirby Squeak Squad
Kirby Super Star Ultra
Kirby Mass Attack
Ace Attorney Trilogy
Miles Edgeworth Duology
Apollo Justice
GTA Chinatown Wars
Mortal Kombat DS
Contra 4
Castlevania DS Trilogy
Metroid Prime Hunters
Mega Man ZX
Mega Man ZX Advent
Resident Evil: Deadly Silence
Professor Layton Quadrilogy
Tetris DS
The Legendary Starfy
WarioWare Touched
WarioWare D.I.Y

My favorites that not mentioned here:

- Black Sigil: Blade of the Exiled

- Sands of Destruction

- Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor series

- Trauma Center series

- Ni no Kuni (Japanese game so you may wanna play if you know Japanese or play its English patched version somehow)

- Metal Max 3 (Japanese game so you may wanna play if you know Japanese or play its English patched version somehow)

The games I would hesitate to recommend:

- Flower, Sun and Rain: Murder and Mystery in Paradise

Not many people would appreciate crazy Japanese humor, walking simulator puzzle game that is actually part of a series of games but it can be played as it's if you don't care about the "series". Not to mention English translation is bad, and it would seem really bad even if you didn't play the PS2 version that is Japanese only.

- Fighting Fantasy: The Warlock of Firetop Mountain

It's an action RPG with FPS camera. I liked the way gameplay is fun enough for time waster stuff but don't expect The Elder Scrolls quality or something lol.

Elite Beat Agents!

Did the DS actually have any other games?? I wouldn't know, because I was always just playing that one 😅
I'd say most people consider Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan, EBA and Ouendan 2 to be a trilogy.

if you are into hokuto no ken and rythm mechanism, i'd also recommend

Hokuto Shinken Denshousha no Michi

first and foremost the game to mention,
The World Ends with You, best game to play on a REAL DS hardware due to its need of touch control AND buttons both at once.
to be honest i like the Android version better, better visual and sound quality, but it's "different" gameplay wise.
and also on switch with a whole chapter not in any other version (can't emulate and i don't own it so idk what else it does different)

other games that i liked:
Tetris DS
Castlevania dawn of sorrow (might need to play Aria of sorrow first on GBA for story purposes)
Lost magic (another game with extensive touch inputs)
Sonic Rush and Rush adventure
Chrono trigger (BEST VERSION OF IT, MOST CONTENT! BETTER THAN STUPID "REMASTER" VERSION)
Final fantasy 3 and 4 3D
mario 64 DS (more than enough extras over the original, 4 playable characters alone makes it fun)
Kirby superstar ultra, the best kirby game out there.
Dragon quest 4,5,6 and 9,
DQ4-6 is basically better versions of those 3, a LOT better then NES/SNES
DQ9 is one of the best of the series, and has 4 player multiplayer the entire game!
(emulating on melonDS can do 4 players on one computer, it's unlikely you'll have 4 real copies of DQ9)

Wow, that’s the breaking news to me!
I’m an enthusiast of coach multiplayer on emulators. Had no idea melonDS can do that!

Do you know more multiplayer (coop RPG-like) games like this?

on the emu i tried kingdom hearts 358/2, Phantasy Star zero, and zelda four swords anniversary
pokemon black/white (I ran all 4 games B1,B2,W1,W2 all at once and linked them)
but yeah the major one is Dragon quest 9, I ran with 4 players and it really pushed the emu (though i was playing all 4 myself) dq9 co-op is a bit interesting since the game is entirely playable alone, and i have completed it alone, just a minor benefits like sharing some items (not equipment) and re-looting stuff

btw note on melonDS, you might want gamepads for everyone, keyboard input only works on whatever window is active, can't control 2+ players on keyboard as far i can figure out
