NDS 3DS/DS games recommendations

been mentioned here already but fire emblem echoes: shadows of valentia is soooo good. way better now that you can obtain all of the dlc very easily, unlocking all of the classes & adding some other content.
I still haven't finished it but of the 3ds fire emblem games this is my fav in terms of art direction, character designs (thank u Hidari) & writing. Everything feels just a bit less whimsical and a bit more grounded in a way that fits the series imo.
The gameplay is pretty different than most the other emblem games from being able to navigate dungeons & towns to revised combat mechanics based of the nes original (no weapon triangle, bows shoot further, equipment levels & abilities, etc)

Still on fire emblem, i also recommend the english translation of New Mystery of the Emblem, which aside being the first game with main character customization, also comes packed with remakes of the BS fire emblem Archanea chronicles scenarios from the 90s which you can access from the main menu. (doesnt have the campy voice acting of the original but still very cool)

lastly, and maybe this is a nostalgia pick bcus i played this a lot as a kid, From the Abyss. fun little diablo esque hack n slash with a gimmick of unlocking spells/skills thru absorbing the ones enemies are flinging at you. Story isnt much but you can have pink hair and swing a sword around and at 10 years old what more could you possibly want in a game?
i love fire emblem, one of my favorite series

Shin Megami Tensei IV and its sequel, SMT IV: Apocalypse are just wonderful JRPGs for the 3DS. Spent most of last summer playing through them both. Would highly recommend!

100% these, and SMT Strange Journey for the Nintendo DS. The SMT games on DS snd 3ds are SO GOOD.
SMT Devil Survivor is also really good if you like SRPGs and SMT in general.
Bravely default is also a really great game, as is dragons quests 5 an 9. (I haven't gotten around to playing the others yet)

Final Fantasy Explorers was one of my favorite games on the 3ds, the other being Monster Hunter 4 Generations. MH4 was the game that got me hooked on Monster Hunter games

What a coincidence, yesterday I started to play Final Fantasy 3, looks good so far. And of course you can't go wrong with DQ9.

Check out Yo-Kai-Watch 3’s English release. ONLY IF YOU HAVE A MODDED CONSOLE THAT CAN PLAY BACKUPS!
It’s very expensive now, but wildly worth it and was sadly very overshadowed by the console’s utter murder at the hands of the Switch swallowing up its worldwide market.

The actual FF3?
i played the 3d remake and honestly its been my least favorite mainline ff so far, 5 does the job system way better, and most of the bosses are super gimmicky in the worst way possible, requiring you to do super specific builds. I do hear the pixel remaster version is a lot better though so maybe ill give that a try at some point

I may have recommended these on another thread, so sorry for the redundancy.

Hope this helps you out.
Have fun and let us know what you picked up/ liked.

Thanks, that's the only classic FF left for me to beat.

anyone have any recommendations for these?

Both of those systems have dozens upon dozens of gems on 'em. The DS library in particular is just chock-full of fantastic games.
Do you have any genre preferences? Are you looking for platformers, RPGs, Puzzle games etc.? Would help with finding a good recommendation.

Without anything specific to go off and off the top of my head - I think all the Dragon Quest games on either console are a good go-to. Same for the Etrian Odyssey and Ace Attorney series.

Mentioned it before but ‘Lock’s quest’, the ‘fossil fighter’ games are a great time too

There’s also the ‘Style savvy’ series, ‘Rune Factory’, ‘Tomodachi Life’

‘Pokémon Conquest‘ and ‘Pokémon Rumble Blast’

It’s about (more or less) 60% trash 40% pure gold for their game libraries, it can be a bit intimidating looking through it all, totally worth it though. There’s really something for everyone.

preferences are definitely rpgs, racing games, and platformers

Ah gotcha!
In that case I'll definitely recommend all of the DQ and EO games again and I'll add Radiant Historia and SMT: Strange Journey (I'd recommend the DS versions over the 3DS ones) for RPGs and Super Mario 3D Land, Kirby Super Star Ultra and Kirby: Planet Robobot for platformers (Nintendo, cliché, I know, but those games really are fantastic) - racing games aren't my forte, sadly.

thats entirely ok! thank you for the recommendations

Based on what I played.

FOR NINTENDO DS
Platform: "Super Princess Peach" (funny use of emotion for attacking and exploring), "Kirby Canvas Curse" (amazing use of stylus, also titled "Power Paintbrush")
RPG: Final Fantasy III and IV (maybe worth them even if you played them already in pixels, they graphics are remade in 3d), "Suikoden Tierkreis" (a real Suikoden with lots of characters to recruit and a big castle to improve and nice graphics)

FOR NINTENDO 3DS
Racing: Asphalt 3D (I enjoyed it)
RPG: "Bravely Second End Layer" (skip the first one, "Bravely Default", if you don't like repeating too many times a single chapter), "Miitopia" (if you like Mii, don't be pushed away from appearance, it's a good rpg), "Yo-Kai Watch 3" (the longest of them all, with most Yokais, but if you won't download it on a hacked 3ds it may be very expensive and rare, so maybe stick with "Yo-Kai Watch 1", to me it's still the favourite even if in 3 there were more monsters and more complex battles; there's also number 2, maybe worth it if you like time travel, if yes then it's better than the first title), "The Legend of Zelda Link Between Worlds" (this one because I liked it, even if I'm not a Zelda fan)
