Duke nukem 3D
Civilization II
Pokemon red and blue
Command and conquer red alert.
Elder scrolls 2 daggerfall

To me that was the best year ever.

Half life 2 is mid tier and the cowards could not even finish the damn story.

Metal gear series is meh I bloody hate stealth games.

Halo 2 is goid but it is an fps which is fun for 1 time.

And I will never ever in a billion years understand what so special with gta.

But hey if you love does games well good for you then.

This is just my opinion (and it's a controversial one at that), but I feel like the Halo franchise is at its best when the stories are about random characters instead of the one-man army/saviour of the world that the Master Chief is. That's why I believe the best games in the franchise, story-wise, are Halo: Reach and Halo 3: ODST, because you aren't a special entity that can solo the entire enemy and escape near-death experiences time and time again, but rather you are just another expendable piece in this never-ending war of attrition, just barely surviving until the next fight. Now I know that Noble Six is a beast, and even the ODSTs were the special forces, but even then, you still die, and your actions don't really change the course of the entire world (though with Reach, that's different, but even then, my point stands. You aren't the special person destined to save the world). I just feel like that removes all the deep lore and how truly deadly the covenant is lore-wise. Like, it feels just plain in my eyes and just very boring. There's no risk in some sense.

For me 1998 was like lightning in a bottle, especially for pc gaming, it was a the year where many cult classic got released.

And not only PC obviously but 98 was just plain ridiculous.
I have a fond memory of 2004 too, between vampire bloodlines, half life 2, doom 3, the sims 2, far cry, deadly shadows, city of heroes, painkiller, the suffering, evil genius, WOW, rise of nations etc.
Man, that was one hell of year.
