Sakurai could've been the CEO of Nintendo I wouldn't have minded. It is my firm believe that Sakurai went above and beyond with Smash Brothers Ultimate to honor Iwata. It's insane the amount of guest characters, a legal nightmare but he did it.
Dubious? He proved everyone that graphics didn't matter, that race wasn't going to work for them and they made a console with a single idea in mind. To make it as accessible so everyone could play; and part of their strategy was the Wiimote, the gimmick played part of it. Because even my uncles and nieces could play Wii Sports, and that was all that Nintendo wanted.Even if some of his choices could be considered dubious (like Nintendo stopping aiming for power in favour of gimmicks)
and???that he had a thick accent when he spoke at E3 conferences
IDK if anyone brought this up in the thread but I remember reading about this. In every switch's coding there exists the NES ROM of Iwata's first game. Meaning that every switch contains a piece of Iwata for all gamers to carry with them. I think that's bittersweet.
And letting down hardcore gamers in the same way. Players from the N64/GC era kinda dropped Nintendo because they wouldn't be interested in playing casual games.Dubious? Well, it makes it a bit harder to understand but thankfully most conferences had an english speaking interpreter.and???
Neat, it should be playable from the Switch menu as an easter egg imo.IDK if anyone brought this up in the thread but I remember reading about this. The hardcore minority that didn't amount to sales wasn't going to save them from the financial hole that the GameCube put them in. No amount of F-Zeros, Earthbounds or even Zelda at that time was enough. They had to shift directions, they took the biggest gamble ever to get out and it payed off, outselling the competition almost 3 to 1, the competition that was a "huge leap forward" for $599 in a looming economical recession. And letting down hardcore gamers in the same way.
Well, according to older fans Nintendo died with the latest member of the legacy family of the company (Yamauchi). The hardcore minority that didn't amount to sales wasn't going to save them from the financial hole that the GameCube put them in.
